A highly efficient and green protocol is reported for the reductive deoxygenation of organic epoxides to olefins using tin(II) chloride/sodium iodide as a novel reagent. The reaction gives an excellent yield (85–96%) in ethanol under reflux within 2–10 minutes, without affecting other functional groups. The advantages of our method are the use of inexpensive reagents, the eco-friendly and green reaction conditions, and the short reaction times and high yields.

A series of new pyrazolo[5,4-b]quinoline derivatives were synthesized in good yields by tin(II) chloride dihydrate catalyzed cyclocondensation of 5-amino-3-(arylamino)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonitriles with cyclohexane-1,3-dione or dimedone. The synthetic procedure can be carried out by means of simple operations under convenient solvent­-free conditions.

A mild, efficient and novel synthesis of 2,3-dihydro-1-hydroxyquinazolin-4(1 H)-ones via cyclization of 2-nitrobenz-amides and ketones induced by tin(II) chloride dihydrate is described. This new method has the advantages of accessible starting materials, convenient manipulation, short reaction times, and high yields.

Mild, eco-friendly and fast reductions of nitroarenes to aminoarenes have been accomplished using stannous chloride dihy- drate in ionic liquid tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) that provides unsolvated nucleophilic bromide ion. Improved yields, lower reaction time, generality, and a less demanding work-up pro- cedure are the notable features of this protocol.

Allylic trichlorotins, prepared in situ from α,α-diisopropylhomoallylic alcohols with tin(II) chloride and N-chlorosuccinimide in dichloromethane at -40 °C, cause nucleophilic addition to N-tosylimines or N-tosyliminiums to afford the corresponding α-substituted homoallylic amines.

Barbier-type allylation of aldehydes with allylic bromides and tin(II) chloride dihydrate is largely accelerated by adding stoichiometric or substoichiometric amounts of sodium iodide. This method has some merits such as lower temperature, shorter reaction time and/or more choices of solvents for the reaction. Moreover, the activation by the iodide ion enables the use of relatively unreactive allylic chlorides of various structural types (e.g., 3-chloro-2-chloromethylpropene as an isobutene dianion equivalent) and, thus, expands synthetic applicability of this reaction. Trichloronitromethane adds to aldehydes in the presence of tin(II) chloride to yield dichloronitro alcohols via a Reformatsky-type reaction. Aliphatic aldehydes give higher yields than aromatic aldehydes
