Abstract: International audience; In this paper, a fault-tolerant control scheme is presented for a boiler-turbine unit of a thermal power plant covering a wide range of operations: at low, medium, and high loads. The approach is based on the use of an observer-based actuator fault estimation system to detect and estimate the fault magnitude for a posteriori compensation via a fault-tolerant control scheme. The performance of both, the observer for actuator fault estimation and the fault-tolerant control scheme are evaluated in a practical scenario using a simulator of the dynamics of the critical variables of the process: the main steam flow, the first stage turbine pressure, the super-heated steam pressure, the drum pressure, and the electric power. The main contribution of this work is to develop an integral, practical methodology for analysis and design of a simultaneous actuator fault estimation and fault-tolerant control system for nonlinear processes. The originality with respect to other works is the regulation of the electric power demand in a thermometric steam generator by means of a fault-tolerant control (FTC) approach. The FTC is based on the knowledge of the fault magnitude on actuators via an observer-based fault estimation scheme. On the other hand, the use of the Takagi-Sugeno approach allows to extend these results to a wider variety of processes with strong nonlinear dynamics.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper we present a sliding modes observer design for a nonlinear dynamic cardiovascular system. Firstly, the model of the cardiovascular system is transformed into a quadratic observability normal form. Then, by using the aortic pressure and a total flow measurements, we estimate the state variables that are not directly accessible from the system, i.e. the ventricular pressure, atrial pressure and systemic pressure. Numerical simulations are performed in order to demonstrate the pertinence of our approach to conceive an adequate observer to monitor the cardiovascular activity. In addition, the results obtained are compared with the systemic and aortic pressure curves for a healthy aortic and systemic pressure curves of a healthy person, as reported in clinical studies.

Abstract: Background An increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) was reported in patients coinfected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), without identifying factors associated with atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD) events. Methods HIV-HCV coinfected patients were enrolled in the Agence Nationale de Recherches sur le Sida et les hépatites virales (ANRS) CO13 HEPAVIH nationwide cohort. Primary outcome was total ASCVD events. Secondary outcomes were coronary and/or cerebral ASCVD events, and peripheral artery disease (PAD) ASCVD events. Incidences were estimated using the Aalen-Johansen method. Factors associated with ASCVD were identified using cause-specific Cox proportional hazards models. Results At baseline, median age of the study population (N = 1213) was 45.4 (interquartile range [IQR] 42.1−49.0) years and 70.3% were men. After a median follow-up of 5.1 (IQR 3.9−7.0) years, the incidence was 6.98 (95% confidence interval [CI], 5.19−9.38) per 1000 person-years for total ASCVD events, 4.01 (2.78−6.00) for coronary and/or cerebral events, and 3.17 (2.05−4.92) for PAD ASCVD events. Aging (hazard ratio [HR] 1.06; 95% CI, 1.01−1.12), prior CVD (HR 8.48; 95% CI, 3.14−22.91), high total cholesterol (HR 1.43; 95% CI, 1.11−1.83), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HR 0.22; 95% CI, 0.08−0.63), statin use (HR 3.31; 95% CI, 1.31−8.38), and high alcohol intake (HR 3.18; 95% CI, 1.35−7.52) were independently associated with total ASCVD events, whereas undetectable baseline viral load (HR 0.41, 95% CI, 0.18−0.96) was associated with coronary and/or cerebral events. Conclusions HIV-HCV coinfected patients experienced a high incidence of ASCVD events. Some traditional cardiovascular risk factors were the main determinants of ASCVD. Controlling cholesterol abnormalities and maintaining undetectable HIV RNA are essential to control cardiovascular risk.

5. Study of Acoustic Waves in a Teaching Classroom using Finite Element Method

Abstract: Aims: To understand the behavior of acoustic waves in a specific classroom in order to get a configuration of panels and ceilings configuration to improve reception and clarity of internal sounds. This was possible by the modification of the properties of the enclosure, sush as the absorption coefficients of internal surfaces. The analysis was carried out through the implementation of a model by using Finite Element Method. Study Design: The acoustic behavior that enclosure for academic use require is discussed, indicating that it is common to find deficiencies in the acoustic architecture of enclosures, and the risks that this causes to cognitive and academic development, as a consequence of low understanding. Place and Duration of Study: Graduate Engineering Department, Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, between August 2020 and June 2021. Methodology: The problem is solved by applying the finite element method. This implies that the essential concepts for the understanding of this subject are reviewed, such as; acoustic physics, mechanics of the continuous medium and finite element method. Results: After multiple analized scenarios, it was observed that while there is an absorption greater than the surface, the material of the panel or ceiling is not relevant. On the other hand, the size and surface where is located the panels turned out to be more relevant parameters. Conclusion: Considering the proposed alternatives, an increase in the Sound Pressure Level and a uniform distribution can be observed. The use of computational tools help to understand the behavior and distribution of acoustic waves in the classroom, which can provide an overview of different adaptations.

Abstract: Adding salt to water at ambient pressure affects its thermodynamic properties. At low salt concentration, anomalies such as the density maximum are shifted to lower temperature, while at large enough salt concentration they cannot be observed any more. Here we investigate the effect of salt on an anomaly recently observed in pure water at negative pressure: the existence of a sound velocity minimum along isochores. We compare experiments and simulations for an aqueous solution of sodium chloride with molality around $1.2\,\mathrm{mol\,kg^{-1}}$, reaching pressures beyond $-100\,\mathrm{MPa}$. We also discuss the origin of the minima in the sound velocity and emphasize the importance of the relative position of the temperatures of sound velocity and density anomalies., Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures, 1 appendix. Abstract: International audience; We here report the detection of extended He ii λ4686 nebular emission in the central region of NGC 1569 using the integral field spectrograph MEGARA at the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias. The observations cover a Field of View (FoV) of 12.5 arcsec×11.3 arcsec at seeing-limited spatial resolution of ∼15 pc and at a spectral resolution of R=6000 in the wavelength range 4330-5200Å. The emission extends over a semi-circular arc of ∼40 pc width and ∼150 pc diameter around the super star cluster A (SSC-A). The A V derived using Balmer decrement varies from the Galactic value of 1.6 mag to a maximum of ∼4.5 mag, with a mean value of 2.65±0.60 mag. We infer 124±11 Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars in SSC-A using the He ii λ4686 broad feature and A V =2.3 mag. The He + ionizing photon rate from these WR stars is sufficient to explain the luminosity of the He ii nebula. The observationally-determined total He + and H 0 ionizing photon rates, their ratio, and the observed number of WR stars in SSC-A are all consistent with the predictions of simple stellar population models at an age of 4.0±0.5 Myr, and mass of (5.5±0.5)×10 5 M. Our observations reinforce the absence of WR stars in SSC-B, the second most massive cluster in the FoV. None of the other locations in our FoV where He ii λ4686 emission has been reported from narrow-band imaging observations contain WR stars.

Abstract: We have applied stellar population synthesis to 500 pc sized regions in a sample of 102 galaxy discs observed with the MUSE spectrograph. We derived the star formation history and analyse specifically the "recent" ($20\rm{Myr}$) and "past" ($570\rm{Myr}$) age bins. Using a star formation self-regulator model we can derive local mass-loading factors, $\eta$ for specific regions, and find that this factor depends on the local stellar mass surface density, $\Sigma_*$, in agreement with the predictions form hydrodynamical simulations including supernova feedback. We integrate the local $\eta$-$\Sigma_*$ relation using the stellar mass surface density profiles from the Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S4G) to derive global mass-loading factors, $\eta_{\rm{G}}$, as a function of stellar mass, $M_*$. The $\eta_{\rm{G}}$-$M_*$ relation found is in very good agreement with hydrodynamical cosmological zoom-in galaxy simulations. The method developed here offers a powerful way of testing different implementations of stellar feedback, to check on how realistic are their predictions., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

Abstract: International audience; This study describes a Pyrenean cross-cultural structure called Centre for the Promotion of Physical Activity and Health (CAPAS-City) that was created to promote physical activity (PA) in Huesca (Spain) and Tarbes (France). The main aim of this centre is to lead the way in the design, implementation, and evaluation of multilevel PA interventions to improve their efficacy and sustainability inside the city. CAPAS-City responds to the main challenges related to multilevel PA interventions, through six guiding principles: (1) promoting sustainability, (2) playing a leadership role, (3) promoting multisectoral partnerships, (4) using evidence-based strategies, (5) promoting integrated knowledge translation, and (6) using a participatory research approach. Five multilevel PA interventions were designed in both cities by CAPAS-City with these principles in mind. Through the example of the Annual MOT Test adapted to bikes, we also illustrate one practical application of the use of these principles, following the Social-Ecological approach, in which the main agents of influence are involved at different levels to encourage cycling. According to the promising results found in this study, CAPAS-City appears to be a structure that is able to respond to the main needs and challenges of multilevel interventions to increase PA levels in the whole population of both cities.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, the impact of fault effects occurring in actuators on energy consumption for multirotor UAV duringmission development is analyzed. The multirotors are typically powered by Lithium Polymer batteries where the total mission time depends on the energy available on board. According to battery and actuators health, the discharge rate tends to increase which decrease the flight endurance causing that battery to discharge completely without guaranteeing the fulfillment of the mission or even a safety landing. In that sense, a model able to determines the maximum energy and flight endurance is used considering the battery discharge, State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) and its impact during the mission execution is evaluated considering the fault effects in actuators modeled as loss of effectiveness. The proposed approach is tested at simulation level considering an hexarotor UAV.

Abstract: International audience; This study concerns the observer design for Lipschitz non-linear descriptor systems. It introduces a new observer structure called a generalised dynamic observer, which is more general than the proportional and proportional–integral observers. The originality of the proposed observer is that it provides additional degrees of freedom in the observer design, which can be used to increase steady-state accuracy and to improve robustness in estimation against modelling errors. Conditions for the existence and stability of this observer are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Reduced-order and full-order observers can be designed directly by using the proposed unified approach. The effectiveness of the developed method is illustrated by two numerical examples where impulse and impulse-free cases are considered, a comparison between the generalised dynamic observer, the proportional observer, and the proportional–integral observer is given to show the observers performances.

Abstract: International audience; In the past few decades great effort has been devoted to the study of water confined in hydrophobic geometries at the nanoscale (tubes and slit pores) due to the multiple technological applications of such systems, ranging from drug delivery to water desalination devices. To our knowledge, neither numerical/theoretical nor experimental approaches have so far reached a consensual understanding of structural and transport properties of water under these conditions. In this work, we present molecular dynamics simulations of TIP4P/2005 water under different nanoconfinements (slit pores or nanotubes, with two degrees of hydrophobicity) within a wide temperature range. It has been found that water is more structured near the less hydrophobic walls, independently of the confining geometries. Meanwhile, we observe an enhanced diffusion coefficient of water in both hydrophobic nanotubes. Finally, we propose a confined Stokes–Einstein relation to obtain the viscosity from diffusivity, whose result strongly differs from the Green–Kubo expression that has been used in previous works. While viscosity computed with the Green–Kubo formula (applied for anisotropic and confined systems) strongly differs from that of the bulk, viscosity computed with the confined Stokes–Einstein relation is not so much affected by the confinement, independently of its geometry. We discuss the shortcomings of both approaches, which could explain this discrepancy.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, the impact of fault effects occurring in actuators on energy consumption for multirotor UAV during mission development is analyzed. The multirotors are typically powered by Lithium Polymer batteries where the total mission time depends on the energy available on board. According to battery and actuators health, the discharge rate tends to increase which decrease the flight endurance causing that battery to discharge completely without guaranteeing the fulfillment of the mission or even a safety landing. In that sense, a model able to determines the maximum energy and flight endurance is used considering the battery discharge, State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) and its impact during the mission execution is evaluated considering the fault effects in actuators modeled as loss of effectiveness. The proposed approach is tested at simulation level considering an hexarotor UAV.

Abstract: This chapter addresses the problem of the state estimation for descriptor systems with constant coefficients by using a new dynamical observer called the generalized dynamical observer (GDO). The advantage of this observer is its structure; it is more general than that of the proportional observer (PO) and the proportional-integral observer (PIO). An extension to the H ∞ dynamical observer is also presented to deal with disturbed descriptor systems. The stability analysis of each observer is proved by the Lyapunov method, and it is guaranteed by solving a set of linear matrices inequalities. Particular cases of the GDO as the PIO and PO were developed in order to compare their performances in simulation. A practical example is also presented to show the performance of our approach.

Abstract: International audience; This paper proposes a methodology to design a robust observer for Takagi–Sugeno descriptor (TS-D) systems with unmeasurable premise variables and its application to sensor fault detection and isolation. A robust H∞ approach is considered to minimize the effect of uncertainties given by the unmeasurable premise variables, disturbances and sensor noise. As a result, a set of relaxed linear matrix inequalities (LMI) are derived, which provides sufficient conditions to guarantee the convergence of the proposed state observer. Finally, a conventional fault detection scheme is considered by means of residual generation and evaluation. An academic example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

La comparaison des versions de Hoffmann et Dumas permet de réfléchir à la nature problématique des contes pour enfants : le conte pourrait bien être en définitive un genre sur l’enfance., Hoffmann’s tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse king first appears in The Serapion Brethren, framed by a debate about what makes a children’s story unique. The text enters France separated from the original story collection ; it is rewritten by Dumas in 1844. Comparing the versions by Hoffmann and Dumas makes it possible to reflect on the problematic nature of tales for children : the tale could very well ultimately belong to a genre about childhood.

Abstract: We report on the results of the LISA Pathfinder (LPF) free-fall mode experiment, in which the control force needed to compensate the quasistatic differential force acting on two test masses is applied intermittently as a series of "impulse" forces lasting a few seconds and separated by roughly 350 s periods of true free fall. This represents an alternative to the normal LPF mode of operation in which this balancing force is applied continuously, with the advantage that the acceleration noise during free fall is measured in the absence of the actuation force, thus eliminating associated noise and force calibration errors. The differential acceleration noise measurement presented here with the free-fall mode agrees with noise measured with the continuous actuation scheme, representing an important and independent confirmation of the LPF result. An additional measurement with larger actuation forces also shows that the technique can be used to eliminate actuation noise when this is a dominant factor. © 2019 authors. Abstract: This paper presents a state observer for linear systems and Lipschitz nonlinear systems with delayed output measurements, which are affected by a known and bounded time-varying delay. The structure of the proposed observer is based on a proportional-integral term, which allows to compensate the time-varying delay. The observer gain depends on the maximum bounded delay. This gain is computed by a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) approach. The observer exhibits good performance for state estimation of the system despite the presence of significantly long delay. A Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is used to prove the asymptotical convergence to zero of the observation error. This observer is applied to the case of systems with time-varying delay whose dynamic is described by a piecewise differentiable function. Examples and numerical simulations are provided in order to support the validity of the main results.

Experiment 1 uses electrostatic suspension forces to measure a change in acceleration of a test mass due to a displaced source mass. Experiment 2 measures a change in relative acceleration between two test masses due to a slowly varying fuel tank mass. Experiment 1 gave a value of G=6.71±0.42(×10-11) m3 s-2 kg-1 and experiment 2 gave 6.15±0.35(×10-11) m3 s-2 kg-1, both consistent with each other to 1σ and with the CODATA 2014 recommended value of 6.67408±0.00031(×10-11) m3 s-2 kg-1 to 2σ. We outline several ideas to improve the results for a future experiment, and we suggest that a measurement in space would isolate many terrestrial issues that could be responsible for the inconsistencies between recent measurements.

Abstract: International audience; The LISA Pathfinder (LPF) mission has demonstrated the ability to limit and measure the fluctuations in acceleration between two free falling test masses down to sub-femto-g levels. One of the key elements to achieve such a level of residual acceleration is the drag free control. In this scheme the spacecraft is used as a shield against any external disturbances by adjusting its relative position to a reference test mass. The actuators used to move the spacecraft are cold gas micropropulsion thrusters. In this paper, we report in-flight characterization of these thrusters in term of noise and artefacts during science operations using all the metrology capabilities of LISA Pathfinder. Using the LISA Pathfinder test masses as an inertial reference frame, an average thruster noise of ∼0.17 μN/Hz is observed and decomposed into a common (coherent) and an uncorrelated component. The very low noise and stability of the onboard metrology system associated with the quietness of the space environment allowed the measurement of the thruster noise down to ∼20 μHz, more than an order of magnitude below any ground measurement. Spectral lines were observed around ∼1.5 mHz and its harmonics and around 55 and 70 mHz. They are associated with the cold gas system itself and possibly to a clock synchronization issue. The thruster noise-floor exhibits an excess of ∼70% compared to characterization that have been made on ground on a single unit and without the feeding system. However this small excess has no impact on the LPF mission performance and is compatible with the noise budget for the upcoming LISA gravitational wave observatory. Over the whole mission, nominal, and extension, the thrusters showed remarkable stability for both the science operations and the different maneuvers necessary to maintain LPF on its orbit around L1. It is therefore concluded that a similar cold gas system would be a viable propulsion system for the future LISA mission.

Abstract: International audience; The multirotor UAVs with Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) capabilities are powered by Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) batteries which supply the energy to launch either indoor and outdoor missions. However, according to number of charges/discharges the battery tends to exhibit an aging behavior. An aging battery could restrict the flight capabilities and cause maneuverability problems increasing the risks of collision. In that sense, in this paper a path planning strategy that take into account the State of Health (SoH) of the Li-Po battery for a class of multirotor UAVs is introduced as an optimization problem. The SoH is computed by introduce a degradation model which affects the battery discharge performance, and an optimization problem is defined to find the feasible path between way-points while minimize the energy supplied by the battery according to the present SoH. The path planning strategy is applied to an hexarotor UAV, and the simulation results show the feasibility of the proposed methodology.

Abstract: International audience; In this work, a Model-based Prognosis algorithm to predict the Flight Endurance (FE) and the Remaining Mission Time (RMT) for a class of multirotor UAVs powered by Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) batteries is presented. A Safety Voltage Threshold (SVT) in the State of Charge (SoC) of the battery is established before reaching of End of Discharge (EoD), and the SVT is defined taking into account the existing relationship between the voltage and the SoC of the battery. The FE is predicted by forecasting when the SVT is reached and the RMT is computed as the difference between the FE and the actual time. The prediction is developed in three sequential steps: 1) estimation of the battery SoC, 2) propagation and prediction of the estimated SoC in the future to reach the SVT, and 3) updating the prediction. The Model-based Prognosis algorithm is based on the mathematical model of the UAV propulsion system, which is made up by a set of BrushLess DC motors and a Li-Po battery. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm was tested in simulation and the results obtained demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method to accurately predict the FE and RMT during the development of a mission.

Abstract: The main contribution of this paper is to present a chain observer for a class of nonlinear systems when the output measurements are affected by a long known and multiple bounded time-varying delay. The proposed observer is composed of a chain of observers with similar algorithm. Each observer estimates the state over a time horizon, while the first observer of the chain estimates the current state. The structure of each observer of the chain is based on the presence of a dynamical term which permits the compensation of the delay. The observer gains are computed by a set of parameterized Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) which depends on the delay. A Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is used to demonstrate the asymptotical convergence to zero of the observation error. The performance of the proposed observer is evaluated through a numerical example.

In particular, this process can occur by enlarging the size of the capsule without modifying the size of the cell body, or by increasing the diameter of the cell body, which is normally accompanied by an increase of the capsule too. This last process leads to the formation of cells of an abnormal enlarged size denominated titan cells. Previous works characterized titan cell formation during pulmonary infection but research on this topic has been hampered due to the difficulty to obtain them in vitro. In this work, we describe in vitro conditions (low nutrient, serum supplemented medium at neutral pH) that promote the transition from regular to titan-like cells. Moreover, addition of azide and static incubation of the cultures in a CO2enriched atmosphere favored cellular enlargement. This transition occurred at low cell densities, suggesting that the process was regulated by quorum sensing molecules and it was independent of the cryptococcal serotype/species. Transition to titan-like cell was impaired by pharmacological inhibition of PKC signaling pathway. Analysis of the gene expression profile during the transition to titan-like cells showed overexpression of enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism, as well as proteins from the coatomer complex, and related to iron metabolism. Indeed, we observed that iron limitation also induced the formation of titan cells. Our gene expression analysis also revealed other elements involved in titan cell formation, such as calnexin, whose absence resulted in appearance of abnormal large cells even in regular rich media. In summary, our work provides a new alternative method to investigate titan cell formation devoid the bioethical problems that involve animal experimentation. Abstract: Background. Morbidity and mortality for critically ill patients with infections remains a global healthcare problem. We aimed to determine whether α-lactam antibiotic dosing in critically ill patients achieves concentrations associated with maximal activity and whether antibiotic concentrations affect patient outcome.Methods. This was a prospective, multinational pharmacokinetic point-prevalence study including 8 α-lactam antibiotics. Two blood samples were taken from each patient during a single dosing interval. The primary pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic targets were free antibiotic concentrations above the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the pathogen at both 50% (50% f TMIC) and 100% (100% f T MIC) of the dosing interval. We used skewed logistic regression to describe the effect of antibiotic exposure on patient outcome.Results. We included 384 patients (361 evaluable patients) across 68 hospitals. The median age was 61 (interquartile range [IQR], 48-73) years, the median Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score was 18 (IQR, 14-24), and 65% of patients were male. Of the 248 patients treated for infection, 16% did not achieve 50% f TMIC and these patients were 32% less likely to have a positive clinical outcome (odds ratio [OR], 0.68; P =. 009). Abstract: This paper proposes a state observer with a cascade structure for a class of nonlinear systems in the presence of uncertainties in the state equations and an arbitrarily long delay in the outputs. The design of the observer is achieved under an appropriate set of assumptions allowing to establish the ultimate boundedness of the observation error. Indeed, a suitable expression of the asymptotic observation error, involving the delay, the bound of the uncertainties and the Lipschitz constant of the system nonlinearities, is derived. Besides, it is shown that this ultimate bound is a decreasing function of the cascade length and is equal to zero in the uncertainty-free case. The observer design is first carried out in the case where the output measurements are continuously available and subsequently extended to the case where the outputs are available only at (non equally spaced) sampling instants. The performance of the proposed observer and its main properties are highlighted through illustrative simulation results involving an academic example.

Abstract: The final publication is available at IOS Press through http://dx.doi.org/10.3847/1538-4357/aaa774 Galactic cosmic-ray (GCR) energy spectra observed in the inner heliosphere are modulated by the solar activity, the solar polarity and structures of solar and interplanetary origin. A high counting rate particle detector (PD) aboard LISA Pathfinder, meant for subsystems diagnostics, was devoted to the measurement of GCR and solar energetic particle integral fluxes above 70 MeV n-1 up to 6500 counts s-1. PD data were gathered with a sampling time of 15 s. Characteristics and energy dependence of GCR flux recurrent depressions and of a Forbush decrease dated 2016 August 2 are reported here. The capability of interplanetary missions, carrying PDs for instrument performance purposes, in monitoring the passage of interplanetary coronal mass ejections is also discussed.

Abstract: International audience; Nowadays, it exists path planning strategies dedicated to generate trajectories considering different navigation issues in UAV multirotors, such as 3D navigation in cluttered and uncluttered environments, obstacle avoidance, and path re-planning. Such path generators are mainly based on the dynamics associated to position and orientation of the UAV, and the attenuation of external disturbances as the wind. However, one of the main limitations of these methods is that they do not take into account the relationship between the path planning task and the energy consumption associated with the battery performance or State of Health (SoH). In this work, a path planning generation algorithm that take into account the evolution of the battery performance is presented. First, the computation of the battery SoH is realized by introducing two degradation models. Subsequently, the path planning algorithm is defined as a multi-objective optimization problem where the objective is to find a feasible trajectory between way-points whiles minimizing the energy consumed and the mission final time depending on the variation of the battery SoH. Finally, the proposed path planning algorithm is compared with a classical path generation method based on polynomial functions to evaluate the minimization of the energy consumption. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed path planning algorithm is able to generate feasible and minimum energy trajectories despite the constraints in the battery SoH.

Abstract: The Space Technology 7 Disturbance Reduction System (ST7-DRS) is a NASA technology demonstration payload that operated from January 2016 through July of 2017 on the European Space Agency's LISA Pathfinder spacecraft. The joint goal of the NASA and ESA missions was to validate key technologies for a future space-based gravitational wave observatory targeting the source-rich milliHertz band. The two primary components of ST7-DRS are a micropropulsion system based on colloidal micro-Newton thrusters (CMNTs) and a control system that simultaneously controls the attitude and position of the spacecraft and the two free-flying test masses (TMs). This paper presents our main experimental results and summarizes the overall the performance of the CMNTs and control laws. We find that the CMNT performance to be consistent with pre-flight predictions, with a measured system thrust noise on the order of $100\,\textrm{nN}/\sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$ in the $1\,\textrm{mHz}\leq f \leq 30\,\textrm{mHz}$ band. The control system maintained the TM-spacecraft separation with an RMS error of less than 2$\,$nm and a noise spectral density of less than $3\,\textrm{nm}/\sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$ in the same band. Thruster calibration measurements yield thrust values consistent with the performance model and ground-based thrust-stand measurements, to within a few percent. We also report a differential acceleration noise between the two test masses with a spectral density of roughly $3\,\textrm{fm}/\textrm{s}^2/\sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$ in the $1\,\textrm{mHz}\leq f \leq 30\,\textrm{mHz}$ band, slightly less than twice as large as the best performance reported with the baseline LISA Pathfinder configuration and below the current requirements for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission.

Abstract: International audience; Some studies have shown that a high neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) ≥q4 before initiating ipilimumab treatment is an independent prognostic indicator of poor survival in patients with metastatic melanoma (MM). To determine whether the NLR before starting BRAF inhibitor (BRAFi) treatment in patients with (MM) is associated with progression-free survival (PFS). This retrospective study included 49 patients consecutively receiving BRAFi for MM between July 2012 and December 2014. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to analyse the relationship between NLR and other factors, such as lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), performance status, BRAFi as first- or second-line therapy, and corticosteroid intake with PFS. The NLR before starting BRAFi was significantly associated with PFS based on univariate analysis and multivariate analysis adjusted for potential confounding factors, such as LDH activity, ulceration, performance status, first-line therapy, and corticosteroid intake. A high NLR (continuous variable) was associated with short PFS (HR: 1.35; 95%~CI: 1.07-1.70; p~=~0.01), and NLR ≥q4 was associated with shorter PFS (HR: 3.24; 95%~CI: 1.30-8.12; p~=~0.01). Corticosteroid intake was not associated with short PFS based on multivariate analysis. An NLR >4, before starting BRAFi treatment, is an independent prognostic indicator of poor progression-free survival.

Abstract: In a number of fields, it is necessary to compare a witness string with a distribution. One possibility is to compute the probability of the string for that distribution. Another, giving a more global view, is to compute the expected edit distance from a string randomly drawn to the witness string. This number is often used to measure the performance of a prediction, the goal then being to return the median string, or the string with smallest expected distance. To be able to measure this, computing the distance between a hypothesis and that distribution is necessary. This paper proposes two solutions for computing this value, when the distribution is defined with a probabilistic finite state automaton. The first is exact but has a cost which can be exponential in the length of the input string, whereas the second is a fully polynomial-time randomized schema. Abstract: National audience; La mesure ou l’estimation exacte de l’état de charge (State-of-Charge - SoC) d’une batterie Li-Po qui alimente les véhicules volant sans pilote (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle - UAV) durant leurs vols permet de connaitre les limites de leurs missions. Ce papier présente une méthodologie d’estimation de l’état de charge d’une batterie Li-Po à partir d’un filtre de Kalman étendu (EKF) durant le vol d’un UAV. Nous considérons un UAV de type hexarotor (ou hexacoptère) pour lequel la puissance électrique consommée sera calculée et l’état de charge de la batterie sera estimée. Finalement, une stratégie basée sur l’estimation de l’état de charge de la batterie est présentée de manière à prédire la fin de la décharge (End-of-Discharge – EoD) durant la mission. Des résultats de simulation présentent l’efficacité de la méthode proposée.

Abstract: We report the first results of the LISA Pathfinder in-flight experiment. The results demonstrate that two free-falling reference test masses, such as those needed for a space-based gravitational wave observatory like LISA, can be put in free fall with a relative acceleration noise with a square root of the power spectral density of 5.2 +/- 0.1 fm s(exp -2)/square root of Hz, or (0.54 +/- 0.01) x 10(exp -15) g/square root of Hz, with g the standard gravity, for frequencies between 0.7 and 20 mHz. This value is lower than the LISA Pathfinder requirement by more than a factor 5 and within a factor 1.25 of the requirement for the LISA mission, and is compatible with Brownian noise from viscous damping due to the residual gas surrounding the test masses. Above 60 mHz the acceleration noise is dominated by interferometer displacement readout noise at a level of (34.8 +/- 0.3) fm square root of Hz, about 2 orders of magnitude better than requirements. At f less than or equal to 0.5 mHz we observe a low-frequency tail that stays below 12 fm s(exp -2)/square root of Hz down to 0.1 mHz. This performance would allow for a space-based gravitational wave observatory with a sensitivity close to what was originally foreseen for LISA.

Abstract: International audience; The persistence of the HIV reservoir in infected individuals is a major obstacle to the development of a cure for HIV. Here, using an in vitro model of HIV-infected quiescent CD4 T cells, we reveal a gene expression signature of 103 upregulated genes that are specific for latently infected cells, including genes for 16 transmembrane proteins. In vitro screening for surface expression in HIV-infected quiescent CD4 T cells shows that the low-affinity receptor for the immunoglobulin G Fc fragment, CD32a, is the most highly induced, with no detectable expression in bystander cells. Notably, productive HIV-1 infection of T-cell-receptor-stimulated CD4 T cells is not associated with CD32a expression, suggesting that a quiescence-dependent mechanism is required for its induction. Using blood samples from HIV-1-positive participants receiving suppressive antiretroviral therapy, we identify a subpopulation of 0.012% of CD4 T cells that express CD32a and host up to three copies of HIV DNA per cell. This CD32a+ reservoir was highly enriched in inducible replication-competent proviruses and can be predominant in some participants. Our discovery that CD32a+ lymphocytes represent the elusive HIV-1 reservoir may lead to insights that will facilitate the specific targeting and elimination of this reservoir.

Abstract: Summary Leaf dark respiration (R dark) represents an important component controlling the carbon balance in tropical forests. Here, we test how nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) affect R dark and its relationship with photosynthesis using three widely separated tropical forests which differ in soil fertility. R dark was measured on 431 rainforest canopy trees, from 182 species, in French Guiana, Peru and Australia. The variation in R dark was examined in relation to leaf N and P content, leaf structure and maximum photosynthetic rates at ambient and saturating atmospheric CO 2 concentration.We found that the site with the lowest fertility (French Guiana) exhibited greater rates of R dark per unit leaf N, P and photosynthesis. The data from Australia, for which there were no phylogenetic overlaps with the samples from the South American sites, yielded the most distinct relationships of R dark with the measured leaf traits.Our data indicate that no single universal scaling relationship accounts for variation in R dark across this large biogeographical space. Variability between sites in the absolute rates of R dark and the R dark : photosynthesis ratio were driven by variations in N‐ and P‐use efficiency, which were related to both taxonomic and environmental variability., See also the Commentary on this article by McDowell & Xu, 214: 903–904.

Abstract: International audience; Measuring or estimating adequately and accurately the state of charge (SoC) of a Li-Po battery, which powered an UAV during its flight allows to know the limits of the mission that the UAV is developing and to maximize the energy supplied by the battery. In this sense this paper presents a methodology to estimate the state of charge (SoC) of a Li-Po battery through an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) during the flight of an UAV. By considering the mathematical model of the propulsion system of an UAV hexacopter, the power consumption is computed, and the SoC of the battery is estimated. Finally, a strategy based on estimated SoC is presented to predict the End-of-Discharge (EoD) during the development of a mission of and UAV hexacopter. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract: The present work proposes a cascade predictor for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems in the presence of uncertainties in the state equations. The delayed state is assumed to be available with an arbitrarily long delay and the underlying measurements are assumed to be corrupted by an additive bounded unknown function. The proposed predictor is constituted by a cascade of subsystems where each of these subsystems predicts the state of the preceding one with a prediction horizon equal to a fraction of the time delay in such a way that the state of the last predictor is an estimate of the system actual state. The design of the predictor is achieved by assuming a set of conditions under which the ultimate boundedness of the estimation error is established. It was in particular shown that in the absence of uncertainties, the observation error converges exponentially to zero. In the presence of uncertainties, the asymptotic observation error remains in a ball which radius depends in particular on the magnitudes of the delay, the Lipschitz constant of the systems nonlinearities and the bounds of the considered uncertainties. The performance of the proposed observer and its main properties are highlighted through an typical example dealing with a bioreactor.

Abstract: International audience; This work is dedicated to the design of a robust fault detection and tracking controller system for a UAV subject to external disturbances. First, a quadrotor modelled as a Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) system is considered as a target to design and to illustrate the proposed methodologies. In order to perform fault detection and isolation, a robust LPV observer is designed. Sufficient conditions to guarantee asymptotic stability and robustness against disturbance are given by a set of feasible Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). Furthermore, the observer gains are designed with a desired dynamic by considering pole placement based on LMI regions. Then, a fault detection and isolation scheme is considered by mean of an observer bank in order to detect and isolate sensor faults. Second, a feedback controller is designed by considering a comparator integrator control scheme. The goal is to design a robust controller, such that the UAV tracks some reference positions. Finally, some simulations in fault-free and faulty operations are considered on the quadrotor system.

It generalises the existing results on the proportional observers and proportional integral observers. Conditions for the existence and stability of this observer are given and its design is obtained in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by a numerical example.

Abstract: International audience; Using a specialized technique sensitive to the presence of expanding ionized gas, we have detected a set of three concentric expanding shells in an HII region in the nearby spiral galaxy M33. After mapping the kinematics in Ha with Fabry-Perot spectroscopy, we used slit spectra to measure the intensities of the [S II] doublet at lambda lambda 671.9, 673.1 nm and the [N II] doublet at lambda lambda 645.8, 658.3 nm to corroborate the kinematics and apply diagnostic tests using line ratios. These showed that the expanding shells are shock dominated as would be the case if they had originated with supernova explosions. Estimating their kinetic energies, we find fairly low values, indicating a fairly advanced stage of evolution. We obtain density, mass and parent star mass estimates, which, along with the kinetic energies, are inconsistent with the simplest models of shock-interstellar medium interaction. We propose that the presence and properties of an inhomogeneous medium offer a scenario which can account for these observations, and discuss the implications. Comparing our results with data from the literature supports the combined presence of an H II region and supernova remnant material at the observed position.
