Objective. To retrospectively evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) through a follow-up study of continuous postoperative surveillance and large-sample data. Methods. The efficacy of ultrasound-guided RFA was evaluated by measuring the tumor volume reduction rate (VRR), tumor disappearance rate, and disease progression in 358 patients with low-risk unifocal PTMC who underwent ultrasound-guided RFA at Hangzhou Weja Hospital, while the safety was evaluated by measuring their complications. Results. The VRR was −745.69 ± 1012.69 (%), −150.35 ± 395.5 (%), 46.47 ± 138.74 (%), 92.95 ± 27.88 (%), 97.78 ± 10.99 (%), and 99.27 ± 3.82 (%), respectively, at 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after RFA. The corresponding tumor disappearance rate was 1.68%, 9.78%, 43.85%, 82.68%, 92.59%, and 95.63%, respectively. No local recurrence, new tumors, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and deaths caused by recurrent/metastatic PTMC were found at the last follow-up. Except for 3 cases (0.84%) with thickening or hoarseness of voice and 3 cases (0.84%) with coughing during drinking water, no other complications were found. Conclusions. Background. Catheter ablation failure poses a clinical challenge for epicardial or intramural ventricular arrhythmia (VA); however, guidewire ablation within the coronary venous system (CVS) may be effective and safe for targeting VAs. Methods. The ex vivo phase included four steps. In step 1, the steam pop incidence rates during guidewire ablation at power settings of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 W were analyzed using 10 mm- and 20 mm-tip guidewires. In step 2, guidewire ablation was performed for application durations of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 90 s, and the lesion size was measured. In step 3, the effects of saline infusion (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mL/min) on lesion dimensions and steam pop formation were examined. In step 4, an orthogonal array was constructed to obtain the optimal guidewire ablation parameters. In the in vivo phase, guidewire ablation within the CVS was performed in three dogs, and the lesion features in 10 days after ablation were observed. Results. In step 1, the steam pop incidence rates at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 W were 0%, 0%, 12.5%, 62.5%, and 100% using the 10 mm-tip guidewires and 0%, 0%, 0%, 25%, and 75% using the 20 mm-tip guidewires, respectively. In step 2, we found that the lesion areas increased with an increase in the ablation duration (the maximum lesion diameters at 30, 60, and 90 s were 4.9 ± 0.4, 7.0 ± 0.8, and 9.2 ± 0.7 mm in the 10 mm group and 3.2 ± 0.5, 4.5 ± 0.4, and 5.3 ± 0.7 mm in the 20 mm-tip group, respectively). In step 3, we observed that saline infusion was negatively correlated with ablation lesions but had a lower risk of steam pop. The optimal parameters for the 20 mm-tip guidewire ablation were 15 W, 50 s, and 2 mL/min or 20 W, 70 s, and 2 mL/min. In the in vivo phase, effective ablation lesions with maximum and minimum diameters of 3.2 ± 0.3 and 2.8 ± 0.5 mm, respectively, were created by the guidewires during the 10-day observation period after ablation. This novel radiofrequency guidewire ablation technique can feasibly create effective lesions within the CVS, which may improve the efficacy of catheter ablation for challenging epicardial or intramural VA. Background. Zoster-associated pain (ZAP) is often refractory to conventional treatments and can seriously affect patients' physical and mental health. High-voltage pulsed radio frequency (H-PRF) is a new method for treating ZAP with pulse voltages above 60 V or even up to 100 V. The purpose of this paper was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of H-PRF in the management of ZAP. Methods. PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane library were searched from their inception to June 2022 to identify controlled trials which evaluated the effectiveness of H-PRF compared with standard PRF and sham operations. The primary outcome was pain scores at different treatment times. The secondary outcomes included SF-36 scores, rescue analgesic dose, and side effects. Results. We reviewed 6 randomized controlled trials involving 428 patients. There was no significant difference between the H-PRF and standard PRF pain scores at 1 week after surgery and the sham operation group at 1 month. At 1, 3, and 6 months, the H-PRF group had better pain score than the standard PRF group, and at 3 months, the pain score was better than the sham operation group. The H-PRF group showed improvement in the SF-36 score, and there were no significant complications in the H-PRF group. Conclusions. H-PRF is an effective and safe treatment method that has better effects in relieving pain and improving the quality of life and physical and mental health. Although H-PRF provides pain relief rates comparable to those of the control group in the early stages, it remains the preferred and alternative treatment for relieving herpes zoster-related pain. Objective. This study aimed to investigate potentially favorable factors influencing the therapeutic success of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of huge benign thyroid nodules (BTNs) (volume >100 ml) and to evaluate the feasibility of RFA as an alternative treatment modality for patients unable or unwilling to undergo surgery. Methods. This retrospective study evaluated a total of 868 patients, of which 22 patients had huge BTNs who underwent ultrasound-guided moving shot RFA treatment between May 2017 and January 2022. The huge BTNs were categorized into two groups according to a post-RFA treatment volume reduction ratio (VRR) of >80% and <80% at 6 months. Factors influencing these huge BTNs were reviewed, analyzed, and correlated with treatment effectiveness between the two groups. Results. The factors influencing an effective VRR included huge BTNs located on the left side (OR 7.875, p = 0.03), predominant solid/spongiform nodules (OR 7.875, p = 0.03), and higher initial ablation rate (IAR) (p = 0.028). Multivariable logistic regression revealed predominant solid/spongiform nodule and the higher IAR were associated with the advanced VRR. Conclusion. RFA was effective at decreasing the volume of huge BTNs with an acceptable complication rate. The BTN characteristics correlated with a better VRR at the 6-month short-term follow-up were predominant solid/spongiform BTNs and those with the first time ablation treatment initial ablation rate. Nevertheless, regarding the higher regrowth rate of these groups of patients who may need to be treated more times, RFA can only be a feasible alternative treatment modality for patients unable or unwilling to undergo operation. Background. Recent studies have shown a bidirectional relationship between atrial fibrillation (AF) and psychological depression. However, little is known about the prevalence of postprocedure depression (PPD) in patients with AF at the time of radiofrequency (RF) ablation. Objective. To describe the prevalence and identify risk factors for PPD. Methods. This was a prospective cohort study, including 428 AF patients who were willing to undergo the first catheter ablation in our hospital from 1st April to 30th December 2019. The primary outcome was PPD, which was determined by Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Depression. Results. The prevalence of PPD was 16.8% (72/428) in our cohort, without difference between men (16.0%, 41/256) and women (18.0%, 31/172) (P = 0.586) but with a great difference among different age groups (P = 0.016). On the univariable binary logistic regression analysis, age, a history of coronary heart disease, Observer's Assessment of Alertness/Sedation (OAA/S) score when ablating at the specific position, and OAA/S score when pulling out the catheter sheath were associated with PPD. Subsequent multivariable logistic regression analysis indicated only age (OR 0.96, 95% CI: 0.94–0.99, P < 0.01) and OAA/S score when ablating at the specific position (OR 0.58, 95% CI: 0.39–0.88, P = 0.01) were independently associated with PPD. Conclusion. PPD is common in patients with AF after RF ablation. Younger age and lower OAA/S score when ablating at the specific position are its most significant risk factors. Objective. The study evaluates the safety and efficacy of hypothermic cardiac arrest (HCA) at various temperatures in aortic arch surgeries. Methods. We conducted a literature search in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Embase databases. For single proportion assessments, we employed fixed-effect and random-effect models in the general linear mixture model and the inverse variance model for other computations. We analyzed factors such as age, sex, operation time, and postoperative complications, with subgroup and metaregression analyses. We used funnel plots to depict potential publication bias. Results. Our research incorporated 43 papers with 34,797 cases. HCA temperatures were divided into five groups (A: 30–32°C, B: 28–30°C, C: 26–28°C, D: 24–26°C, and E: <24°C). There is no statistically significant difference in myocardial ischemia time (P = 0.90) and isolated cerebral perfusion (ICP) time (P = 0.95). Groups A and C have the best performance in avoiding postoperative complications including transient nerve injury (TNI), permanent nerve injury (PNI), renal failure (RF), and mortality occurrence rate. Group A has the lowest occurrence rate in PNI (3%) and mortality (3%). Group C has the lowest RF incidence (5%). Conclusion. Maintaining temperatures of 30–32°C in en bloc anastomosis or 26–28°C during arch replacement with separate grafts can significantly reduce complications including PNI, RF, and in-hospital mortality. Facial erythema is a representative symptom of rosacea patients that greatly impairs quality of life. Recently, the therapeutic effects of intradermal injection of botulinum toxin type-A on erythema have been investigated. Fractional microneedling radiofrequency has been reported to be effective in dermal remodeling and anti-inflammation. To obtain enhanced therapeutic effects with a less painful and easier approach, a treatment regimen using transdermal botulinum toxin delivery with fractional microneedling radiofrequency was developed. We aimed at investigating the efficacy and safety of transdermal botulinum toxin delivery with fractional microneedling radiofrequency in treating the erythema of rosacea. This was a retrospective review of 20 patients with facial erythema associated with rosacea. All patients underwent two sessions of treatment at 4-week intervals. Standardized photographs were taken, and the clinicians' erythema assessment (CEA), erythema index (EI) measured through a spectrophotometer, investigator's global assessment (IGA), and subjective satisfaction and side effects were evaluated at the baseline and 4, 8, and 12 weeks after the baseline. Compared to the baseline, CEA levels significantly decreased after 8 weeks (P = 0.018) and 12 weeks (P = 0.005). As an objective measure, EI was observed to decrease significantly at 4 weeks (P = 0.04) and 8 weeks after the baseline (P = 0.005) compared with the baseline. Ninety-five percent of patients were either very satisfied or satisfied with the treatment. None of the patients experienced remarkable side effects. A novel treatment regimen involving transdermal botulinum toxin delivery and fractional microneedling radiofrequency may be an effective and safe option for reducing the facial erythema of rosacea. Background. There is controversy regarding whether patients with single hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) should be offered radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as a first-line treatment option. Thus, this study compared overall survival after surgical resection (SR) and RFA for single HCC. Methods. The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was used for this retrospective study. The study included 30- to 84-year-old patients diagnosed with HCC from 2000 to 2018. Selection bias was reduced via propensity score matching (PSM). The study compared the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of patients with single HCC who were treated with SR and RFA. Results. Before and after PSM, the median OS and median CSS were significantly longer in the SR group than in the RFA group (p < 0.05). In the subgroup analysis, the median OS and median CSS for male and female patients with male and female patients with tumor sizes <3, 3–5, and>5 cm, age at diagnosis between 60 and 84 years, and grades I–IV tumors were longer than in the SR group than in the RFA group (p < 0.05). Similar results were reported for patients who received chemotherapy (p < 0.05). Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed that compared with RFA, SR was an independent favorable factor for OS and CSS (p < 0.05) before and after PSM. Conclusion. Patients with SR who had a single HCC showed higher OS and CSS compared with patients who received RFA. Hence, SR should be used as a first-line treatment in cases of single HCC. Objective. Radiofrequency coblation (RFC) is a relatively new method that has opened up new perspectives in treating oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). Our study was designed to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of RFC-assisted transoral surgery (RFC-TOS) for primary OPSCC. Methods. Sixty-nine cases of OPSCC from February 2005 to November 2020 were retrospectively analyzed, including 31 in the RFC-TOS group and 38 in the open surgery group. No difference was observed in demographic and oncological characteristics. Results. The significance between the RFC-TOS group and the open surgery group was proved in intraoperative bleeding volume (34.10 ± 10.10 ml vs. 193.68 ± 21.00 ml, P < 0.001), durations of surgery (79.58 ± 8.45 min vs. 217.87 ± 17.65 min, P < 0.001), time to resume oral feeding (1.64 ± 0.41 d vs. 11.58 ± 1.41 d, P < 0.001), duration of hospitalization (7.84 ± 0.66 d vs. 15.66 ± 1.62 d, P < 0.001), and the total costs (22846.22 ± 1821.55¥ vs. 41792.24 ± 4150.86¥, P < 0.001). The rates of 5-year overall survival (OS), 5-yeardisease-specific survival (DSS), and 5-year local control rate (LC) were 69.1%, 71.7%, and 75.7%, respectively, in the RFC-TOS group and 71.0%, 73.4%, and 73.7% in the open surgery group (P > 0.05). Objective. This research intends to investigate the clinical efficacy of radiofrequency ablation and electrocautery in treating grade I or II vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN). Methods. This is a single-center retrospective study, which collected the clinical data of 100 patients with VaIN diagnosed by colposcopy and pathological biopsy in the Gynecology and Cervical Center of Xiangzhu Branch of the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region between January 2020 and June 2021. Patients were divided into the study group (radiofrequency ablation treatment) and the control group (electrocautery) according to differences in treatment approaches. 6- and 12-month follow-ups were performed on all patients. Gynecological examination results, liquid-based thin-layer cytology (TCT), negative conversion of human papillomavirus (HPV), curative effects, and prognosis were recorded. Results. All patients completed regular follow-ups that lasted for 6 and 12 months. The 6- and 12-month cure rates of the study group were 76.0% and 92.0%, respectively, and the data in the control group were 70.0% and 82.0%, respectively. In terms of the 6- and 12-month negative conversion rates of HPV, the data in the study group were 68.0% and 78.0%, versus 60% and 68% in the control group, respectively. The lesion duration rate showed no statistical significance between the study group (8.0%) and the control group (P > 0.05). The analysis of postoperative follow-up complications revealed that the study group had a statistically lower overall incidence of vaginal bleeding, excessive vaginal discharge, vaginal burning sensation, and decreased vaginal elasticity than the control group (8.0% vs. 24.0% P < 0.05). Conclusion. Both radiofrequency ablation and electrocautery have obvious clinical effects in patients with grade I or II VaIN, but the former contributed to fewer operative complications and a good prognosis, which deserves clinical promotion. Background and Aims. Radiofrequency ablation is a commonly used treatment for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF), but postoperative rehabilitation exercises are needed to reverse left ventricular structural and functional abnormalities. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the intervention effect of exercise training in patients with AF after radiofrequency ablation. Methods. A systematic literature search was conducted to identify articles in PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library from January 1, 2010 to December 1, 2021. The mean difference with 95% CI was pooled for continuous variables. We used Review Manager 5.3 for the standard meta-analysis. This study followed the guidelines of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Results. Ten randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included, with a total of 892 patients with AF. The quality of one study was grade A, and the rest were grade B. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the improvement of 6 min walking distance (MD = 34.42, 95% CI: 3.20 to 65.63, P = 0.03), peak oxygen uptake (MD = 1.96, 95% CI: 1.14 to 2.78, P < 0.001), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (MD = 0.09, 95% CI:0.01–0.17, P = 0.02), resting heart rate (MD = −4.50, 95% CI: −8.85 to −0.14, P = 0.04), and physical component summary (PCS) (MD = 3.00, 95% CI: 0.46 to 5.54, P = 0.02) in the experimental group was significantly better than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion. Exercise training can improve the level of exercise endurance and cardiac function in patients. However, the results were limited by the quantity and quality of the studies. Objectives. To investigate the procedural efficiency, efficacy, and safety of high-power, short-term radiofrequency ablation delivered by the SmartTouch Surround Flow (STSF) catheter for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods. We retrospectively analyzed a total of 72 patients who were admitted with paroxysmal AF, and who underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) for the first time. Of these patients, 36 cases underwent low-power, long-duration (LPLD, (30–35 W/20–40 s) pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) delivered by an SmartTouch (ST) catheter (control group), and the other 36 cases underwent high-power, short-duration (HPSD, (45–50 W/10–20 s) PVI delivered by a STSF catheter (study group). The baseline data, duration of PVI, procedural time, fluoroscopy time, the rate of first-pass isolation, irrigation perfusion, eschar and steam pop occurrences, intraoperative complications, and the rate of stable sinus rhythm maintenance following a blanking period of three months were analyzed between the two groups. Results. The isolation time of bilateral PVI and procedural time in the study group were markedly less than in controls (p < 0.01). The rate of first-pass isolation in the study group was significantly higher than in the control group (95.8% vs. 84.7%, p = 0.023), while the fluid perfusion in the study group was approximately 20% less than that in the control group (767 ± 171 vs. 966 ± 227 ml, p < 0.001). We observed no severe complications in any patients. The rate of freedom from AF recurrences following a blanking period of three months showed a tendency to be higher than in controls (93.9% vs. 87.1%, p = 0.348). Conclusions. The HPSD strategy delivered by the STSF catheter was superior to conventional LPLD ablation through the ST catheter with respect to efficiency, acute procedural effectiveness, short-term safety, and the risk of heart failure in patients with paroxysmal AF. The aim of this study was to grasp the current situation of fear of recurrence in patients after radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation and to explore the application effect of cognitive-behavioral stress management in patients with fear of recurrence after radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation. From July 2020 to July 2021, 150 patients with fear of recurrence of atrial fibrillation after radiofrequency ablation in our hospital were divided into a control group and an intervention group, with 75 cases in each group. Both groups received conventional nursing methods, and the intervention group received 8 weeks of cognitive-behavioral stress management. Before the intervention and after the intervention, the general situation questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Fear Disease Progression Simplified Scale (FoP-Q-SF), the Perceived Stress Scale (CPSS), and the Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire (PPQ) were used for evaluation. Before the intervention, there were no significant differences in general data, degree of fear of recurrence, stress perception, and psychological capital scores between the two groups (P > 0.05). After 8 weeks of cognitive-behavioral stress management intervention, the fear recurrence, the total score of stress perception, and the scores of each dimension in the intervention group were significantly lower than those in the control group, and the psychological capital score was significantly higher than that in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Cognitive-behavioral stress management method can significantly reduce the fear of recurrence and stress level of patients after radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation, and improve their psychological capital level. Objective. To explore the predictive value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with serum lectin-reactive alpha-fetoprotein (AFP-L3) for liver cancer recurrence after percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Methods. This study included 94 liver cancer patients admitted for RFA treatment and 82 healthy subjects. MRI was performed to record the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). The serum concentrations of AFP-L3 were quantified in all participants. The correlation of the AFP-L3 serum level and ADC value with clinical efficacy following RFA was analyzed. Moreover, the prognostic factors affecting liver cancer recurrence were analyzed, as well as the predictive effect of the ADC value and AFP-L3 on liver cancer recurrence. Results. The serum AFP-L3 level was higher in liver cancer patients than the healthy controls with a lower ADC value. Besides, the patients with tumor residuals had lower ADC values and higher serum AFP-L3 levels than those with complete ablated tumor. The combined detection of the ADC value and serum AFP-L3 level had a sensitivity of 87.50% and a specificity of 87.18% for diagnosing complete ablation after RFA treatment. The number of tumor nodules, tumor diameter, AFP, AFP-L3, and the presence of liver cirrhosis are all independent risk factors for liver cancer recurrence within one year. Meanwhile, the combined detection of the ADC value and serum AFP-L3 level had a good predictive effect on liver cancer recurrence with the sensitivity of 92.86% and a specificity of 69.62%. Background. Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is the most common and severe complication after varicella-zoster infection, especially in elderly patients. PHN is always refractory to treatment. Both pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) and short-term spinal cord stimulation (stSCS) have been used as effective analgesia methods in clinic. However, which technique could provide better pain relief remains unknown. Objectives. This study is aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of PRF and stSCS in elderly patients with PHN. Study Design. A prospective, randomized-controlled study. Setting. Department of Pain Management, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. Methods. A total of 70 elderly patients with PHN were equally randomized to the PRF group or stSCS group. Patients in the PRF group received PRF treatment, while patients in the stSCS group received stSCS treatment. The primary outcome was the effective rate. The secondary outcomes included the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36), and the pregabalin dosage. All outcomes were evaluated at baseline and at different postoperative time points. Results. At 12 months after surgery, the effective rate reached 79.3% in stSCS group, while 42.1% in PRF group. The effective rate was significantly higher in the stSCS group than in the PRF group at 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. VAS scores decreased significantly at each postoperative time point in both groups (P < 0.001). The VAS scores were significantly lower in the stSCS group than in the PRF group at 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. SF-36 scores (bodily pain and the physical role) were significantly improved at each postoperative time point in both groups (P < 0.001). The SF-36 scores were significantly higher in the stSCS group than in the PRF group at some postoperative time points. The pregabalin dosage was significantly lower in the stSCS group than in the PRF group at 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. Limitations. A single-center study with a relatively small sample size. Conclusions. Both PRF and stSCS are effective and safe neuromodulation techniques for elderly patients with PHN. Ebstein anomaly (EA) results from the failure of proper delamination of the tricuspid valve leaflets from the right ventricle (RV) myocardium. The severity of EA occurs on a spectrum that results in varying degrees of tricuspid regurgitation, atrial dilation, RV dilation, and dysfunction. These effects have the potential to create substrates that can give rise to atrial arrhythmia, ventricular arrhythmia, and a greater incidence of Wolff–Parkinson–White (WPW) syndrome Wackel et al. (2018) accounting for 0.5% of all congenital heart diseases (Oh et al. 1985). In the case of atrial fibrillation and WPW, it is very dangerous for the patient because of hemodynamic compromise, syncope, and sudden death. In this case report, we share our experience in using radiofrequency ablation to ablate right lateral accessory pathway, with modified Carpentier technique in operation to treat an adult patient diagnosed with Ebstein anomaly, atrial septal defect, atrial fibrillation, and WPW syndrome. Objective. Effective therapies for reflux hypersensitivity are lacking. Endoscopic radiofrequency ablation may reduce the sensitivity of the distal esophagus through direct interference with nociceptors or vagal afferent fibers and thus may be useful in reflux hypersensitivity. The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness and possible mechanisms of endoscopic radiofrequency ablation in reflux hypersensitivity patients. Methods. Patients with reflux hypersensitivity who fulfilled the Rome IV criteria and who wished to receive further treatment were recruited. Endoscopic radiofrequency ablation was delivered to the gastroesophageal junction. Data were collected by questionnaire using a 6-point Likert scale. The primary outcome measure was effect on symptoms including heartburn, regurgitation, and chest pain. The secondary outcomes were degree of satisfaction, medication use, acid exposure time (AET), low esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure, and total reflux episodes. We also assessed positive cell density of transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1 receptor (TRPV1) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), both of which are biomarkers of afferent fibers, in biopsies obtained from esophageal mucosa 0.5 cm-1 cm above the Z line. These scales will be administered at baseline, 3-month follow-up, 6-month follow-up, and 12-month follow-up. Results. A total of 22 reflux hypersensitivity patients were enrolled (14 males, median age 50.0 years). A significant improvement in symptom scores (heartburn, regurgitation, and chest pain) was noted at 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months (P < 0.001). Satisfaction with life increased to 72.7% (16/22), 72.7% (16/22), and 68.2% (15/22) at 3, 6, and 12 mo, respectively, compared with baseline (P < 0.001). Nineteen patients reduced their medication use after treatment. Of these, 22.7% (5/22), 31.8% (7/22), and 40.9% (9/22) subjects stopped medication use at 3 mo, 6 mo, and 12 mo, respectively. No statistical differences were noted in AET, LES pressure, or total reflux episodes from preoperation to 12 mo postoperation. After treatment, the positive cell density of both TRPV1 and CGRP decreased significantly; however, only TRPV1 had a positive correlation with heartburn (r = 0.51 , P = 0.03) and chest pain (r = 0.77 , P < 0.01). Conclusion. Endoscopic radiofrequency ablation was an effective and safe therapeutic option in reflux hypersensitivity patients. Background. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of the percutaneous radiofrequency (RF) excision system (BLES) as a primary method of diagnosis and removal of small breast masses. Methods. Ninety-six lesions in 95 patients with 50.5 ± 8.4 years of age were treated in a five-year period by a single operator. Inclusion criteria were as follows: size (<20 mm), depth (>10 mm), and indeterminate or suspicious radiological features (74 BI-RADS 3 and 22 BI-RADS 4). The procedure was performed under ultrasound (US) guidance using 6 G retriever probes with 12-, 15-, and 20-mm baskets. Results. Lesions were between 5 and 20 (12.3 ± 3.8) mm in length. They were removed at the first attempt in all but one case. The technical success rate was 98.95%, and the diagnostic success rate was 100%. Ninety-one lesions were histologically benign and five were neoplastic. Two lesions that were previously classified as BI-RADS 3 were diagnosed as neoplasia (atypical lobular hyperplasia), and nineteen lesions that were previously classified as BI-RADS 4a were diagnosed as benign. The complete excision rate (presence of tumor-free negative surgical margin) was 40% in neoplastic lesions. There were no major complications. The minor complication rate was 1.58%. No recurrence was observed during 18 months of follow-up. Conclusion. Objective. This study explored the 10-year efficacy, safety, and prognostic factors of low-dose collagenase chemonucleolysis (CCNL) combined with radiofrequency (RF) in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods. The data of 167 LDH patients were collected. Modified MacNab criteria, Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores were, respectively, used to evaluate patients' excellent and good rates, pain degree, and nerve function. The preoperative and 10-year postoperative patients' pain, numbness, and muscle weakness were compared. Patients' complications in perioperative period, recurrent/reappeared LDH, and reoperations were recorded. Finally, the independent risk factors affecting the long-time efficacy were assessed. Results. A total of 126 patients were included. The patients' excellent and good rates were 86.51%–92.86% with no significant difference P > 0.05 . Postoperative NRS and JOA scores significantly improved P < 0.01 , most obvious within 6 months postoperatively. At 10 years postoperatively, 65.08%, 83.95%, and 93.02% of patients' pain, numbness, and muscle weakness were completely relieved P < 0.05 . Perioperative complications occurred in three patients with the rate of 2.38%. Recurrent/reappeared LDH patients were 11 with the ratio of 8.73%; nine of them underwent reoperations with the rate of 7.14%. And patients' probability of fair and poor efficacy at 10 years postoperatively with the course of disease >12 months and the responsibility disc ≥2 were, respectively, 6.005 and 4.227 times that of patients with the course of disease ≤12 months and the responsibility disc = 1 P < 0.05 . Conclusion. The combined treatment is effective and safe in the long term. The epidermal-dermal (ED) and dermal-subcutaneous (DS) junctions are the most prominent skin interfaces, which are known to be of primary importance in different dermatological and aesthetic conditions. These interfaces are strongly modified in aging skin, and their effective targeting can lead to improvement of skin appearance in aging and by cellulite. Application of radiofrequency (RF) currents to the skin can selectively produce mechanical stress on these interfaces. Background. The probability of liver cancer recurring in patients after surgery is a serious threat to liver cancer patients. Radiofrequency ablation is widely employed in liver cancer cases. We explored the therapeutic effects and influencing factors of radiofrequency ablation combined with hepatic artery intervention in patients with recurrence of primary liver cancer surgery. Methods. 90 patients with primary liver cancer postoperative recurrence admitted to our hospital from January 2014 to February 2017 were selected as the research objects. The patients were randomly divided into the control group (n = 45) and combined treatment group (n = 45). The combined treatment group received radiofrequency ablation combined with hepatic artery interventional therapy, and the control group received hepatic artery interventional therapy. The short-term efficacy, AFP levels before and after treatment, and long-term survival results of the two groups were compared. Single-factor and multifactor analyses of the clinical information of the combined treatment group were carried out to find out the factors affecting the therapeutic effect of radiofrequency ablation combined with hepatic artery intervention on patients with recurrence of primary liver cancer. Results. The total effective rate of short-term curative effect of the combined treatment group was higher than the control group, and there was a statistically significant difference existing (P < 0.05). After treatment, two groups of patients' AFP levels were greatly lower than before treatment, the AFP levels of the combined treatment group were significantly lower than the control group, and there was a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). The survival rates of patients in the combined treatment group at the sixth month, the first year, and the second year after treatment were significantly higher than those of the control group, and there was a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). The univariate results showed that, in the combined treatment group, there were statistically significant differences between the effective group and the ineffective group in tumor diameter, intact capsule, liver cirrhosis, intrahepatic spread, and tumor adjacent to large blood vessels (P < 0.05). The outcomes of multivariate analysis indicated that tumor diameter ≥ 3 cm, incomplete capsule, intrahepatic spread, and tumor adjacent to large blood vessels were risk factors for ineffective recurrence of patients with primary liver cancer after radiofrequency ablation combined with hepatic artery intervention (P < 0.05). Discussion. Tumor diameter ≥ 3 cm, incomplete capsule, intrahepatic spread, and tumor adjacent to large blood vessels are risk factors for the ineffectiveness of radiofrequency ablation combined with hepatic artery interventional therapy for patients with recurrence of primary liver cancer. It is necessary to increase the range of radiofrequency treatment, increase the temperature of the radiofrequency needle, and strengthen postoperative follow-up interventions based on the specific conditions of the patient's tumor. Objective. The aims of this study are to evaluate the safety and efficacy of RFA in the treatment of benign thyroid nodule(s) and to find independent factors related to the volume reduction rate of the nodule(s). Materials and Methods. This short-term prospective study from a single medical center was conducted on 93 benign thyroid nodules in 93 patients treated with RFA. Two basic techniques were used: the trans-isthmic approach and moving-shot technique. Clinical and ultrasonography examinations were performed at 1- and 3-month follow-up after the treatment session. Primary outcomes included volume reduction ratio (VRR) at 1-month and 3-month follow-ups; secondary outcomes were therapeutic success rate and complications. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine independent factors associated with VRR. Results. A final sample of 78 patients with 78 nodules, given participant rate 83.8% (including 60 solid nodules, 16 predominantly cystic nodules, and 2 thyroid cysts), was followed up for 3 months. The mean volume reduction ratio was 41.47% and 64.72% after 1-month and 3-month follow-ups, respectively. The therapeutic success rate was 30.8% at 1-month and 84.6% at 3-month follow-ups. Symptom score and cosmetic score improved significantly. There was no change in thyroid function tests. Two minor complications (transient voice change) were found. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that the internal component of the nodules significantly related to the VRR during the 3-month follow-up (β = 23.00; 95%CI (7.59–38.45)). Conclusion. Background. Atrial fibrillation surgical radiofrequency ablation (AFSA) during mitral valve surgery (MVS) has almost completely superseded the Cox-Maze procedure for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Methods. We retrospectively analyzed 100 patients who underwent MVS + AFSA in our institution from January 2008 to June 2017. We compared the effectiveness of AFSA in patients who underwent LAA exclusion to those who did not. Moreover, we analyzed the role of preoperative AF duration (≤ or >1 year) and medial-lateral left atrial dimensions (ML-LAD) (≤ or >6 cm). The efficacy endpoint was freedom from AF at discharge and at 2-year follow-up. The safety endpoints were need of a permanent pacemaker (PMK), surgical re-exploration, occurrence of stroke, and left circumflex artery or esophageal lesions. Results. Overall, the rate of AF freedom was 69% at discharge and 80% at 2-year follow-up. LAA exclusion did not influence AF freedom at 2-year follow-up, and 84.6% of patients who underwent LAA exclusion were in the sinus rythm (SR) at 2 year compared to 75% of those who did not receive LAA exclusion free from AF as well (p = 0.230). AF duration ≤1 or >1 year did not influence sinus rhythm (SR) maintenance (85.7% vs. 75.8%; p = 0.224), and in these two groups, LAA exclusion did not change the efficacy of AFSA. ML-LAD ≤ 6 cm was associated with better results in terms of SR maintenance. A statistically significant association between LAA exclusion and SR maintenance at 2-year follow-up (p = 0.017) was found among patients with ML-LAD ≤ 6 cm. Complications included 7 cases of PMK implantation, 2 cases of surgical re-exploration, and 1 case of stroke. No circumflex artery or esophageal lesions occurred after surgical procedures. Conclusions. In our experience, AFSA during isolated MVS resulted in good outcomes in terms of SR maintenance and incidence of complications. AF duration ≤ 1 year did not influence results, while patients with ML-LAD ≤ 6 cm had significantly better results regarding SR at follow-up. We aimed to study the long-term sinus reversion rate and recovery of left atrial function after modified surgical radiofrequency ablation for permanent atrial fibrillation caused by mitral valve disease. From March 2014 to May 2020, 35 patients who underwent modified surgical radiofrequency ablation during cardiac valve surgery in our hospital were selected as the study group, and 25 normal individuals without cardiac structural changes were selected as the control group. The time of modified surgical radiofrequency ablation and long-term sinus reversion rate were measured, and left atrial anteroposterior, superoinferior, left and right diameters, left atrial ejection fraction, left atrial filling index, and left atrial ejection force were measured before and 6 months after surgery. The mean ablation time was 23.2 min, and the long-term sinus reversion rate was 80.0%. The left atrium diameter decreased and the left atrium ejection fraction increased after the operation (P < 0.05). The left atrium filling index and ejection force were significantly increased in 28 patients with sinus reversion (P < 0.05). The decrease in left atrial diameter and the increase in left atrial ejection fraction were correlated with sinus conversion after surgery (P < 0.05). The modified operation is simple, the curative effect is definite, and the sinus reversion rate is high, which is beneficial to the restoration of left atrial structure, ejection function, and hemodynamic function. Melasma is a recalcitrant pigmentary disease with a complex pathogenesis. Monotherapy often results in unsatisfactory results with high recurrence rate. In this review article, we evaluate efficacy of energy‐based devices combination therapy for melasma. We reviewed published literature since 2010 up to November 2020 regarding adjuvant therapy of energy‐based devices with other treatment modalities in the treatment of melasma. After final selection, we assessed 49 articles. Energy‐based devices include lasers, non‐coherent lights, radiofrequency, iontophoresis, sonophoresis, microneedling, and microdermabrasion. Adjuvant therapies other than energy‐based devices were lightening agents, chemical peels, platelet rich plasma (PRP) and mesotherapy. Combination of Q‐switched neodymium‐doped: yttrium, aluminum, and garnet (QSNY) with either intense pulsed light therapy (IPL) or pulsed‐dye laser (PDL) are recommended in recalcitrant melasma in patients with light skin photo types and with dilated skin vessels (especially with PDL). Combination of fractional microneedling radiofrequency or microneedling with QSNY leads to promising results and is a safe treatment modality, especially in darker skin types. Application of topical lightening agents in combination with laser therapy leads to higher efficacy with less adverse effects (post‐inflammatory hyperpigmentation) and rebound of melasma. Combination of ablative techniques with QSNY is not recommended, due to the high risk of permanent adverse effects such as guttate hypopigmentation and exacerbation of melasma. Introduction. To compare the actual 10-year survival outcomes of early single hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients between 3 first-line treatments: radiofrequency ablation (RFA), surgical resection (SR), or transplantation (LT). Methods. A total of 1255 early single HCC patients retrieved from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database were included. Patients survived ≥10 years, and patients died <10 years were compared. Significant predictors associated with 10-year survival were identified by multivariate logistic regression analysis. The 10-year survival outcomes of 3 treatments were compared using multivariate model risk adjustment and inverse probability of treatment weighted (IPTW) adjustment. Results. Of the 1255 patients, 472 patients underwent SR, 259 patients underwent LT, and 524 patients underwent RFA. 149 patients achieved 10-year survival. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, race, treatment, and fibrosis score were significant predictors for 10-year survival, and LT had the best advantage of 10-year survival, followed by SR. Comparable 10-year survival outcomes were found between SR and RFA after IPTW. Then, a subgroup analysis was performed based on the tumor size, and the results showed that for ≤50 mm tumor, SR showed no significant advantages over RFA for 10-year survival. Conclusions. Estimates of the observational association of different treatments with 10-year survival are sensitive to the analytic method. LT showed the best outcomes for patients. No significant differences for 10-year survival were found between SR and RFA in the IPTW cohort. Subgroup analysis showed that for >50 mm tumor, SR showed significant advantages over RFA after IPTW. Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is the cornerstone therapy of atrial fibrillation (AF). Radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) is performed using a point-by-point method to achieve durable PVI. However, this procedure remains complex and time-consuming, and the long-term clinical outcomes are still not satisfactory. Recently, there has been increasing interest in the clinical application of high-power short-duration (HPSD) approaches in the field of RFCA. HPSD ablation, distinguishing it from the conventional ablation strategy, delivers RF energy at a high power and saves the dwell time at each site. It is unknown whether the HPSD approach can bring some gratifying changes in the field of RF energy ablation. A number of experimental studies and clinical studies have been conducted regarding this topic. The review aimed to summarize the research findings and evaluate the procedural efficiency, safety, and clinical outcomes of the HPSD approach based on the evidence available to date. Objective. Recurrence after curative resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of death from this disease. Factors of primary curative resection are available and potential in the prognosis of follow-up treatment. Our aim was to assess the prognostic significance of primary curative resection factors in recurrent HCC patients undergoing radiofrequency ablation therapy (RFA). Methods. In this retrospective study, we assessed 235 patients who underwent limited RFA of HCC recurrences (tumors ≤ 5 cm ; nodules ≤ 3) after primary curative resection. Factors of primary curative resection were collected, and overall survival and recurrence-free survival were evaluated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify significant prognostic factors. Results. After a median follow-up of 36 months, 54 patients died, and 128 patients had hepatic recurrence. On univariate analyses, patients whose primary tumors were less differentiated (p = 0.032 and p = 0.048) and required less time to recur (p = 0.013 and p = 0.001) after curative resection displayed poorer overall survival and higher recurrence rates following RFA. On multivariate analyses, the pathologic tumor grade (p = 0.026 and p = 0.038) and recurrence-free survival after primary curative resection (p = 0.028 and p < 0.001) emerged as independent risk factors of survival and HCC recurrence. Conclusions. Primary tumor differentiation and time to recurrence after curative resection are viable prognostic factors of overall survival and further recurrence risk in patients undergoing RFA of recurrent HCC. Breast conservation surgery (BCS) aims to excise all cancerous tissue while minimizing the amount of healthy breast tissue removed. Up to 30% of patients undergoing BCS require a second operation for re‐excision to obtain negative margins. Previous studies reported a lower re‐excision rate with intraoperative use of the MarginProbe device (Dune Medical Devices). This device utilizes radiofrequency spectroscopy to detect differences between cancerous and normal tissue. From July 2009 to January 2010, our institution enrolled 46 patients electing for BCS in a prospective double‐arm randomized controlled trial and had a significantly lower re‐excision rate than that reported in the multicenter trial. Intraoperatively, after performing conventional lumpectomy with excision of any additional shavings deemed necessary based on palpation and visual inspection alone, patients were then randomized. In the device arm, the surgeon used the MarginProbe to interrogate the lumpectomy specimen, taking additional shavings from the cavity surfaces corresponding to the parts of the specimen read as positive by the device. In the control arm, only standard intraoperative assessments were performed. All specimens were evaluated by pathologists who were blinded to the study arm. In this population, 72% had invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC), 20% had ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and 8% had invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC). Average age was 64 years old. The average size of the specimen was 5.6 cm, the average volume was 37.8 cm3, and the average weight was 32.7 g. The mean size of DCIS was 1.4 cm. For invasive specimens, 32 were T1 and 7 were T2. Prior to randomization, 43 patients were thought to have positive or close margins and therefore underwent additional shavings. Twenty‐three patients were randomized to the device arm and 23 to the control arm. In the device arm, 14 (60%) patients had IDC, 7 (30%) had DCIS, and 2 (8%) had ILC, vs the control arm where 19 (82%) patients had IDC, 2 (8%) had DCIS, and 2 (8%) had ILC. Eight (35%) patients in the control group vs 1 (4%) in the device group underwent re‐excision for margin involvement (P <.05). The use of the MarginProbe device at our institution significantly improved the ability of our surgeons to obtain clear margins during initial BCS. Our results show a lower re‐excision rate (4%) than those published in the multicenter trial (19.8%). We postulate that in the face of more patients having DCIS in our device group (30%), our surgeons responded by taking thicker shavings when the MarginProbe device reported margin involvement during the initial lumpectomy, resulting in greater success achieving clear final margins on the shaved tissue and a significantly lower re‐excision rate than previously reported with the MarginProbe device. The aim of this questionnaire‐based study was to measure the level of appreciation, practice patterns, and side effects of monopolar radiofrequency treatment among Korean dermatologists practicing the most updated monopolar radiofrequency device (Thermage FLX, Thermage Inc., Hayward, California). According to a total of 52 surveys analyzed, this latest device (Thermage FLX) was considered more effective (57.4%), faster with reduced treatment time (66.0%), and more painful (25.5%) compared with Thermage CPT. Asians in their 40s were considered to benefit most and skin thickness continued to be the most important determinant in terms of responsiveness to Thermage FLX. The interval between treatments was mainly 1 year (51.9%) with the 600 REP 4 cm2 new total tip being preferred by 86.5% of Thermage FLX users. The treatment energy and the complication rate of Thermage was lower than what we reported in 2017 and 2011 which is likely due to the optimized energy delivery of Thermage FLX and the subsequent gentle treatment. Despite multiple individual studies proving efficacy of grid fractional monopolar radiofrequency (Grid RF) and near‐infrared irradiation 1064‐nm long‐pulsed neodymium:YAG laser (Laser Genesis), there is a lack of controlled comparative trials between these devices. This study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of Grid RF versus Laser Genesis in the treatment of periorbital rhytides. This is a randomized, single‐blind, split‐face, prospective study. Eight patients with moderate to severe periorbital rhytides were treated with either Grid RF or Laser Genesis on each side of the face. Photographic and live assessment with the Lemperle Wrinkle Assessment grading scale was compared after 2 months. Difference in scores between Grid RF vs Laser genesis groups after 2 months was not statistically significant (P = 0.244). Each group showed statistically significant improvement months post‐procedure (P <.05). Immediate adverse effects and satisfaction scale were similar for both groups (P >.05). At 2 months follow‐up, no adverse effects were seen. Background. Whether and how amarogentin suppresses the angiogenesis effect in liver cancer cells after insufficient radiofrequency ablation (iRFA) are still poorly studied. Methods. The number of liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs) and the level of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) were assessed in liver cancer tissue after iRFA. Then, CD133-positive cells were detected in iRFA models of HepG2 and Huh7 cell lines treated with amarogentin. Tube formation assays were applied to observe the antiangiogenesis effects of amarogentin. In addition, the angiogenesis-related molecules p53, delta-like ligand 4 (Dll4), and Notch1 were detected in the iRFA cells and mouse models treated with amarogentin. Results. The mRNA and protein expression levels of CD133 and VEGFA were significantly higher in the residual liver cancer tissue than in the liver cancer tissues treated by hepatectomy. Amarogentin then markedly decreased the percentage of CD133-positive cells in the iRFA model in both HepG2 and Huh7 cell lines. The number of tubules formed by human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) was significantly decreased by amarogentin. Inversely, the antiangiogenesis effect of amarogentin was counteracted after p53 silencing in the iRFA cell models. Conclusion. Amarogentin prevents the malignant transformation of liver cancer after iRFA via affecting stemness and the p53-dependent VEGFA/Dll4/Notch1 pathway to inhibit cancer cell angiogenesis. Pulsed radiofrequency of the suprascapular nerve has shown efficacy in adults with chronic shoulder pain, but its use in pediatrics is relatively new. We present a case of a successful use of pulsed radiofrequency to treat refractory chronic shoulder pain in an adolescent patient. Case Report. We present a 53 kg, 14-year-old female, with a medical history of septic arthritis of the left shoulder within the first month of life leading to persisting pain during childhood. She presented with a complaint of progressive pain starting at age 12, refractory to analgesics including opioids and intra-articular injection of local anesthetic and steroids. After pulsed radiofrequency of the suprascapular nerve, significant pain relief and improvement of the range of motion was obtained. These results were maintained at the 1-, 3-, and 6-month follow-up visits with the pain being reported as mild and manageable with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Conclusion. There is limited data today of the use of pulsed radiofrequency for pediatric chronic pain. We successfully used this intervention in a 14-year-old patient with chronic shoulder pain extrapolating from adult experience and as a last resort after all other treatments had failed. Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a common neuropathic pain that seriously affects the daily life of patients. Many invasive treatments are currently available for patients who respond poorly to oral carbamazepine or oxcarbazepine. Among them, radiofrequency (RF) treatment is a viable option with reliable initial and long-term clinical efficacy. The long-term analgesic effects of radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RFT) at high temperatures (≥80°C) are not superior to those at relatively low temperatures (60–75°C). In contrast, the higher the temperature, the greater the risk of complications, especially facial numbness, masticatory muscles weakness, and corneal hypoesthesia. Some patients even experience irreversible lethal complications. Therefore, we recommend low-temperature RFT (60–75°C) for treatment of TN. The therapeutic effects of pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) are controversial, whereas PRF (≤75°C) combined with RFT can improve long-term effects and decrease the incidence of complications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of surface contouring of chondromalacic cartilage by bipolar radio frequency energy using different treatment patterns in an animal model, as well as examining the impact of the treatment onto chondrocyte viability by two different methods. Our experiments were conducted on 36 fresh osteochondral sections from the tibia plateau of slaughtered 6-month-old pigs, where the thickness of the cartilage is similar to that of human wrist cartilage. An area of 1 cm2 was first treated with emery paper to simulate the chondromalacic cartilage. Then, the treatment with RFE followed in 6 different patterns. The osteochondral sections were assessed for cellular viability (live/dead assay, caspase (cell apoptosis marker) staining, and quantitative analysed images obtained by fluorescent microscopy). For a quantitative characterization of none or treated cartilage surfaces, various roughness parameters were measured using confocal laser scanning microscopy (Olympus LEXT OLS 4000 3D). To describe the roughness, the Root-Mean-Square parameter (Sq) was calculated. A smoothing effect of the cartilage surface was detectable upon each pattern of RFE treatment. The Sq for native cartilage was Sq = 3.8 ± 1.1 μ m. The best smoothing pattern was seen for two RFE passes and a 2-second pulsed mode (B2p2) with an Sq = 27.3 ± 4.9 μ m. However, with increased smoothing, an augmentation in chondrocyte death up to 95% was detected. Using bipolar RFE treatment in arthroscopy for small joints like the wrist or MCP joints should be used with caution. Objectives. This work aimed to study the efficacy of hybrid 99mTc-Pyrophosphate SPECT/CT for diagnosis of latent inflammatory processes in the myocardium of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods. The study comprised 34 patients aged 44 ± 9 years with AF of unknown etiology referred for radiofrequency ablation. The data were acquired using hybrid 99mTc-Pyrophosphate SPECT/CT. To evaluate and interpret the results of hybrid study and to determine localization of radiopharmaceutical accumulation, scintigraphic and CT images were fused. SPECT/CT results were compared with data of endomyocardial biopsy. Results. Sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 99mTc-Pyrophosphate SPECT/CT in diagnosing myocarditis were 91%, 100%, and 94%, respectively. Proposed diagnostic criteria for myocarditis comprised intensity of the radiopharmaceutical accumulation in the myocardium and the ratios of focus/lung, focus/vertebral column, and focus/LV pool. Minimum cutoff values for the histologically verified myocarditis were >1.47 for focus/lung index, >0.11 for focus/vertebral column ratio, and >1.26 for focus/lung index. Conclusions. SPECT/CT-based quantitative assessment of 99mTc-Pyrophosphate accumulation in the myocardium is a highly informative noninvasive method for diagnosis of inflammatory process in the heart in patients with AF of undefined etiology. Objective. The effect of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) on fibrinolytic and endothelial activation with currently applied periprocedural anticoagulation has not been explored. We measured markers of fibrinolysis and endothelium activation before and after PVI with the second-generation cryoballoon (Cryo), pulmonary vein ablation catheter (PVAC-Gold), and irrigated radiofrequency (IRF). Methods. Markers of fibrinolysis and endothelium activation in left atrial (LA) blood samples were measured in 31 patients before and after PVI (Cryo:10, PVAC-Gold: 7, IRF: 14). Periprocedural anticoagulation included uninterrupted vitamin K antagonist and iv heparin (ACT≥300 sec) during LA dwelling. Results. Levels of D-dimer (median; interquartile range, mgFEU/L) increased with all techniques (PVAC: 0.34; 0.24–0.50 versus 0.70; 0.61–1.31; p = 0.0313 , Cryo: 0.33; 0.28–0.49 versus 0.79; 0.65–0.93; p = 0.0078 ; IRF 0.33; 0.21–0.44 versus 0.83; 0.56–1.21; p = 0.0001). PAP complex level (ng/ml) increased after Cryo (247.3, 199.9–331.6 versus 270.9, 227.9–346.7; p = 0.0020) and IRF (265.3; 202.0–800.1 versus 325.6, 250.2–701.9; p = 0.0166), but not after PVAC (p = 0.2969). PAI-1 activity (%) decreased with the PVAC (1.931; 0.508–3.859 versus 0.735, 0.240–2.707; p = 0.0313) and Cryo (0.361; 0.080–1.575 versus 0.378; 0.111–0.915; p = 0.0313). A similar trend was observed with IRF (p = 0.0676). Both VWF antigen levels and FVIII activity increased after PVI with all the 3 techniques. The levels of soluble VCAM-1 (ng/ml) did not change after PVAC procedures, but increased after Cryo (542, 6; 428.5–753.1 versus 619.2; 499.8–799.0; p = 0.0005) and IRF (679.3; 505.0–744.7 versus 770.9; 631.9–894.0; p < 0.0001). Conclusion. PVI with contemporary ablation techniques and periprocedural antithrombotic treatment induces coagulation and endothelium activation of similar magnitude with different ablation methods. Introduction. Noninvasive procedures such as cryolipolysis, noncontact selective radiofrequency (RF), and laser selective fat heating have been shown to be safe and effective for the reduction of localized subcutaneous fat. Material and Methods. In this retrospective study, we describe the safety and efficacy of combining RF with cryolipolysis for localized unwanted fat after one single session. 69 patients, 61 females, and 8 males for a total of 75 treatments were included in this study. All patients underwent RF prior to and following cryolipolysis. Pictures (n = 24), taken before and after treatment, were used to clinically assess the physician Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (PhGAIS). In parallel, patients were asked to subjectively evaluate the efficacy of the treatment using the same scale (PaGIAS). Results. PhGIAS showed an improvement in 18 patients (73.46%), 5 (22.44%) were unchanged, and 1 (4.08%) worsened their appearance after treatment. The mean PaGIAS scored as "good improvement." Conclusion. Radiofrequency (RF) treatment is an invasive and promising procedure in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). A meta-analysis based on 12 RCT studies was to investigate whether invasive RF treatment is more effective in relieving knee pain and improving knee function. Relevant studies were searched on database of Pubmed, Embase, EBSCO, Cochrane library, Wanfang digital database, VIP database, and CNKI up to January 2018. A total of 841 participants from 12 publications were included. The weighted mean difference (WMD) and the corresponding 95% CIs were used to evaluate the difference in pain scores and OKS/WOMAC scores between RF treatment and control groups. The statistical analysis was performed by Stata 12.0. The pain scores (VAS) in the RF group were lower than those in the conservative treatment group after 1 week (WMD -1.77, 95% CI -2.93 to -0.61, P<0.01), 1 month (WMD -1.40, 95% CI -1.98 to -0.82, P<0.01), and 3 months (WMD -1.32, 95% CI -2.27 to -0.37, P<0.01) of treatment, while there was no significant improvement in knee function. In subgroup analyses by site of radiofrequency, RF mode showed some discrepancies in the WMD of VAS between the treatment and control groups. In addition, subgroup analysis and meta-regression showed that the efficacy of RF treatment for reducing pain is reversely related to female ratio, and we did not find any surgery-related adverse reactions. RF treatment significantly reduces the knee pain, but rarely improves the knee joint function. Radiofrequency ablation has better efficacy than pulsed radiofrequency ablation in reducing pain. Background. Osteoid osteoma (OO) is one of the most commonly occurring benign bone tumors. It constitutes 10-12% of benign bone tumors and 2-3% of primary bone tumors. In radiofrequency ablation (RFA) treatment, the cells of the tumor are thermally inactivated by the help of electrodes shaped like needles. In our study, we aimed to show the major and minor complications in patients undergoing RFA and to show what should be done to prevent these complications. Methods. The study was carried out as a prospective study on the follow-up of 87 osteoid osteoma patients treated between 2015 and 2017. The youngest of the patients was 1 year old and the oldest was 42 years old. The RFA procedure lasted 10 min on average, excluding anesthesia and preparation. All lesions were ablated at 90 degrees for 7 minutes with the heat increased gradually. All patients were followed up for 1 day in the orthopedics clinic. Results. Complications were observed in 7 patients. The lesions with the most complications were observed to be in the tibia, second-degree burns were seen in 2 patients, and superficial skin infection was observed in 2 patients. In 1 patient, the probe tip was broken and remained within the bone. Intramuscular hematoma was detected in 1 lesion located in the proximal femur. A complaint of numbness in the fingers developed in a lesion located in the metacarpus. Conclusion. Preventive measures should be taken before the procedure in order to prevent minor complications, and, for major complications, close follow-up should be done after the procedure and patients should be kept away from heavy physical activities for the first 3 months. Recently great attention has been paid to the rejuvenation of the face, neck, and décolleté of women with advanced radial fractional radiofrequency. We aimed to clinically evaluate the results obtained with this treatment method. We treated 10 women aged 42 to 62, suffering from skin aging. After carrying out the hydration and sebometry skin tests in each patient, collecting the medical history and taking photographs of the face and décolleté in the standard projections, a questionnaire was submitted to each patient. Finally, we have submitted the patients to one session of application of radiofrequency energy, by an Italian device named "Thuzzle" (GMV, Rome, Italy). The obtained results show a high effectiveness in improving the texture and tone of skin, decreasing micro wrinkles and spot reduction. This questionnaire-based study was aimed to measure the level of appreciation, awareness of the special tips, and practice patterns of monopolar radiofrequency among Korean dermatologists practicing a specific monopolar radiofrequency device (Thermage® Inc., Hayward, CA). A total of 82 surveys were analyzed to show that the majority of participants (78.8%) were highly satisfied with the outcomes of monopolar radiofrequency treatment. All respondents were aware of the Eye Tip 0.25 cm2, and the majority knew the difference between the Face tip (blue) and the Total tip (orange). Most (86.3%) agreed to the statement that 900 shots were appropriate for facial tightening in those between the ages of 35 and 65 years. 66.2% of participants reported to have perform monopolar radiofrequency to extra-facial sites within the past year. As for the tips, the Total tip was most popular for all body sties and the Big tip was favored for the abdomen, thighs and buttock. The demand for noninvasive body contouring procedures continues to drive the development of new technology to treat areas on the body that are more resistant to diet and exercise. This study assesses the safety and efficacy of a novel selective RF applicator as a noninvasive, contactless method for reducing thigh circumference using a radiofrequency electric field (Vanquish Flex Applicator, BTL Industries Inc., Boston, MA). Forty-two female subjects were enrolled to undergo a treatment of their bilateral inner and outer thighs (saddle bags) once weekly for 4 weeks. Thigh circumference was measured at the baseline and 2 weeks after the fourth treatment. The primary objective was the evaluation of clinical outcomes of 40 treated subjects. Safety of the device was assessed based on adverse events reports during the course of the study. Forty subjects completed the study. After four treatments, the therapy group showed a statistically significant (p<0.001) reduction in thigh circumference of 2.43 cm compared with an untreated control group of 10 patients, where no change was seen (p=0.297). No treatment associated pain or discomfort was reported by the subjects. There were also no reports of adverse events. ABSTRACT Several treatment modalities are used for the treatment of acne scars with variable results. Recent studies showed that fractional radiofrequency may be an effective treatment modality for acne scars. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy, safety, tolerability and patient satisfaction of fractional bipolar radiofrequency (RF), the eTwo™ system (Syneron Candela Ltd., Yokneam, Israel) for treating acne scars. Twelve patients with moderate to severe acne scars received 3-5 treatments with the Sublative fractionated bipolar RF applicator of the eTwo device at 1-month intervals. Patients were evaluated clinically and photographically at each visit and 3 months after the final treatment. Very good improvement (at least one scale) was seen after completing the five treatments. The patient satisfaction survey (Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale scores) revealed that half (6 out of 12) of the patients reported to be satisfied with treatment results, while the other half reported to be very satisfied. Beyond the expected erythema and minimal scab formation in the treated areas, which was mild and transient, none of the participants reported any adverse events. Highlights include the use of analysis of variance and Student's t test for statistical analysis of continuous data, the use of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to confirm normal distribution of the data, and association of reduction in positive margin rates with a statistically significant reduction in the volume excised.

Abstract: AGA is a common disorder. Different treatments are available to prevent hair loss and achieve hair growth with variable results. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel fractional radiofrequency (RF) device (HairLux, Innogen Technologies Ltd., Yokneam, Israel), to prevent hair loss and induce hair growth. Twenty‐five patients received 10 fractional RF treatments every 2 weeks, and were followed up 2 months after the last treatment. All patients were evaluated by global photography. In 10 patients, blinded manual hair counts were performed. Patients demonstrated less hair shedding, fuller hair, and faster hair growth. There was an average increase of 31.6% in hair density (based on hair counts) and 18% increase in hair shaft thickness. All subjects tolerated the treatments well. The HairLux device is effective and safe for hair growth stimulation in AGA. Ten treatment sessions are recommended to maximize results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This report describes a case of bilateral greater occipital neuralgia treated with cooled radiofrequency ablation. The case is considered in relation to a review of greater occipital neuralgia, continuous thermal and pulsed radiofrequency ablation, and current medical literature on cooled radiofrequency ablation. In this case, a 35-year-old female with a 2.5-year history of chronic suboccipital bilateral headaches, described as constant, burning, and pulsating pain that started at the suboccipital region and radiated into her vertex. She was diagnosed with bilateral greater occipital neuralgia. She underwent cooled radiofrequency ablation of bilateral greater occipital nerves with minimal side effects and 75% pain reduction. Cooled radiofrequency ablation of the greater occipital nerve in challenging cases is an alternative to pulsed and continuous RFA to alleviate pain with less side effects and potential for long-term efficacy. Gastroesophageal reflux disease is one of the leading gastrointestinal disorders. Current treatments include lifestyle modifications, pharmacological therapies, surgical fundoplications, and, more recently, endoscopic procedures. The rising concern of longterm side effects of the popular proton-pump inhibitors and the more recent evidence raising doubts about the durability of fundoplication have spurred reinterest in endoscopic procedures to treat reflux disorders. In the aftermath of several innovative antireflux procedures that were introduced and failed clinically or financially over the past decade, there is lingering confusion regarding the merits of the presently available interventions. This paper focuses on one endoscopic procedure, Stretta, which now enjoys the longest experience, a recent meta-analysis, and robust data supporting its safety, efficacy, and durability. Stretta reduces esophageal acid exposure, decreases the frequency of transient lower esophageal relaxation, increases patient satisfaction, decreases medication use, and improves quality of life.
