The hepatitis B virus (HBV) is one of the major viral infection problems worldwide in public health. The exclusive proprietary Chinese medicine Ganweikang (GWK) tablet has been marketed for years in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB). However, the pharmacodynamic material basis and underlying mechanism of GWK are not completely clear. This study is aimed at investigating the pharmacological mechanism of the GWK tablet in the treatment of CHB. The chemical ingredient information was obtained from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP), Traditional Chinese Medicines Integrated Database (TCMID), and Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry of CAS. Ingredients and disease-related targets were defined by a combination of differentially expressed genes from CHB transcriptome data and open-source databases. Target-pathway-target (TPT) network analysis, molecular docking, and chemical composition analysis were adopted to further verify the key targets and corresponding active ingredients of GWK. Eight herbs of GWK were correlated to 330 compounds with positive oral bioavailability, and 199 correlated targets were identified. The TPT network was constructed based on the 146 enriched targets by KEGG pathway analysis, significantly associated with 95 pathways. Twenty-five nonvolatile components and 25 volatile components in GWK were identified in UPLC-QTOF/MS and GC-MS chromatograms. The key active ingredients of GWK include ferulic acid, oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, tormentic acid, 11-deoxyglycyrrhetic acid, dibenzoyl methane, anisaldehyde, wogonin, protocatechuic acid, psoralen, caffeate, dimethylcaffeic acid, vanillin, β-amyrenyl acetate, formonentin, aristololactam IIIa, and 7-methoxy-2-methyl isoflavone, associated with targets CA2, NFKB1, RELA, AKT1, JUN, CA1, CA6, IKBKG, FOS, EP300, CREB1, STAT1, MMP9, CDK2, ABCB1, and ABCG2.

Based on the data of population mortality in China since 1994, this paper studies the changing trend of sex differences of mortality by proposing and implementing some novel approaches. First of all, this paper proposes a new method using the Poisson common factor (PCF) model to forecast the mortality jointly by both sexes. The study finds that the PCF model effectively captures the common trend of mortality between two sexes and uses additional factors to reflect differences of between two sexes, which can reduce the errors caused by low quality or large fluctuation of the mortality in China. Meanwhile, the forecasting values of mortality based on the PCF model can abide by the human biological law well, and the sex ratio of mortality converges to a fixed constant in the long run without increasing too much statistical error. Second, this paper improves the parameter estimation method of PCF model, and the innovative two-step method is used to estimate the model, which can make the maximum likelihood estimator converge more easily. Finally, as an application of the novel methods which are proposing in this study, we measure the longevity risk of pension by using the PCF model and find that the PCF model can make up the underestimation of longevity risk from traditional models and provide more scientific information to the sponsor of pension plan.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is one of the most common sexual dysfunctions in men. The prevalence of ED has been increasing in recent years, which has critically affected male reproductive health and quality of life. According to various guidelines, phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors are the most commonly recommended drugs for treating ED. However, many patients turn to alternative therapies because of adverse reactions, such as headache, and the poor efficacy of these drugs. Acupuncture is a long-established treatment in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and has been approved by the World Health Organization for improving penile erection as well as other discomforts in patients. However, previous systematic reviews have not discussed the characteristics and the related mechanisms of acupuncture treatment. Therefore, this study focuses on summarizing the characteristics and advantages of TCM in acupuncture treatment for ED based on relevant literature and on predicting and analyzing the related mechanisms.

While impairment of vascular homeostasis induced by hypercholesterolemia is the first step of cardiovascular diseases, the molecular mechanism behind such impairment is not well known. Here, we reported that high-cholesterol diet (HCD) induced defective vessel sprouting in zebrafish larvae. Electron transfer flavoprotein subunit α (ETFα) (encoded by the ETFA gene), a protein that mediates transfer of electrons from a series of mitochondrial flavoenzymes to the respiratory chain, was downregulated in HCD-fed zebrafish and in endothelial cells treated with oxidized low-density lipoprotein. Knockdown of ETFα with morpholino antisense oligonucleotides reproduced vascular sprouting defects in zebrafish larvae, while replenishing with exogeneous ETFA mRNA could successfully rescue these defects. ETFA knockdown in endothelial cells reduces cell migration, proliferation, and tube formation in vitro. Finally, knockdown of ETFA in endothelial cells also reduced fatty acid oxidation, oxygen consumption rate, and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF1α) protein levels. Taken together, we demonstrate that downregulation of ETFα is involved in hypercholesterolemia-induced defective vessel sprouting in zebrafish larvae via inhibition of endothelial proliferation and migration. The molecular mechanism behind this phenomenon is the decrease of HIF1α induced by downregulation of ETFα in endothelial cells. This work suggests that disturbance of ETFα-mediated oxygen homeostasis is one of the mechanisms behind hypercholesterolemia-induced vascular dysfunction.

This study established a truck dispatching model adopting 0-1 decision variables to rationally allocate truck transportation in open-pit mines, maximize the total loading and unloading volume of trucks, and solve the problem of the inability of the truck dispatching model to guide production in open-pit mines because of nonspecific results. The model considers loading and unloading logical relationships, working time constraints, loading and unloading volume constraints, traffic flow constraints, and loading and unloading capacity constraints to maximize the total loading and unloading volume. The operation of trucks between loading and unloading sites is taken as the decision variable. The results show multiple transportation routings of all trucks between loading and unloading sites in working time. Double decision variables are used to solve the expression problem of constraints. The mathematical model is solved using Lingo. The proposed algorithm was then used to optimize the truck dispatching. The application result of the total loading and unloading volume was 10950.6 m3, and the total loading and unloading number was 384. The optimization result could guide production effectively.

Background. Magnolia officinalis Rehd. and Wils. is widely used in Asian countries because of its multiple pharmacological effects. This study investigated the gastroprotective effect and mechanisms of the ethanol extracts from the bark of Magnolia officinalis (MOE) against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal damage in rats. Methods. MOE was prepared by reflux extraction with 70% ethanol, and its main compounds were analyzed by UPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap-MS. DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP methods were used to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of MOE in vitro. The gastroprotective effects of MOE were evaluated by the area of gastric injury, H&E (hematoxylin-eosin), and PAS (periodic acid-Schiff). The mechanism was explored by measuring the levels of cytokines and protein in the NF-κB signaling pathway. Results. 30 compounds were identified from MOE, mainly including lignans and alkaloids. MOE presented a high antioxidant activity in several oxidant in vitro systems. Gastric ulcer index and histological examination showed that MOE reduced ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in a dose-dependent manner. MOE pretreatment significantly restored the depleted activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) enzymes, reduced malondialdehyde (MDA), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) levels in the gastric tissue in rats. In addition, MOE also inhibited the activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway and decreased the production of proinflammatory cytokines. Conclusions. The gastroprotective effect of MOE was attributed to the inhibition of oxidative stress and the NF-κB inflammatory pathway. The results provided substantial evidence that MOE could be a promising phytomedicine for gastric ulcer prevention.

Objective. Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a zoonosis caused by the larval stage of the metacestode Echinococcosis multilocularis with a tumor-like behavior in the targeted organ, especially in the liver. Surgery with albendazole is first-line modality for AE. Drug discontinuation is usually based upon the parasitic viability shown by the positron emission tomography (PET) scan. However, as a demanding and expensive method, it is not widely practiced in majority of the endemic regions. Further understanding on the cytokine and chemokine response profiles in AE patients may provide an interesting insight for potential markers in viability assessment. Methods. Mice were inoculated with Echinococcus multilocularis intrahepatically to develop the hepatic AE murine model. Oral albendazole administration was then applied for three months after the first inoculation, and peripheral and regional immune cells including type 1 T helper cells (Th), Th2, Th17, regulatory T (Treg) cells, related cytokines, and chemokines were examined. Results. The hepatic AE lesion was confirmed by ultrasound examination resulting in a successful rate of 70%. Among the 17 cytokines and chemokines detected, plasma levels of IL-23 were significantly higher in E. multilocularis-infected mice when compared to the control group; furthermore, more obvious increasing levels were found after albendazole treatment ( p < 0.05 ). All chemokine levels other than eotaxin and MCP-3 were slightly higher in E. multilocularis-infected mice compared to the control group ( p > 0.05 ). Eotaxin levels were significantly decreased in mice with E. multilocularis infection followed by albendazole treatment ( p < 0.05 ). Both IL-17A and IL-23 expressions in hepatic AE lesions were significantly higher and related with disease activity. Conclusion. Albendazole administration influenced the balance of immune response and promotes the secretion of proinflammatory factors which is beneficial to parasite clearance. IL-23 seems to be associated with the successful albendazole treatment in mice with E. multilocularis infection; such a change could be translated into clinical application in the near future.

Background. Glioma is the most common malignant brain tumor and the patients are prone to poor prognosis. Due to limited treatments, new drug exploration has become a general trend. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the new drugs C18H17NO6and its combination with Scutellarin on glioma cells and the underlying mechanism.Method. U251 and LN229 cells were administrated with C18H17NO6and its combination with Scutellarin. The proliferation ability of glioma cells was determined by cell counting kit-8, plate clone formation assay, and EdU incorporation assay. The cell cycle and apoptosis detection were detected by flow cytometry. Moreover, TUNEL assay was also used for cell apoptosis analysis. Then, the transfer ability of cells was achieved through wound healing assay. Furthermore, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and western bolt analysis were used to detect the mRNA expression and protein expression, respectively. Lastly, immunofluorescence was for the purity identification of astrocyte.Result. The results showed that, with the increasing dose of C18H17NO6, the cell inhibition rate, the cells in G1 phase, and the apoptosis rate were gradually increased, but the clone number, proliferation rate, and the cells in G2 and S phases were gradually decreased in comparison with control group. However, with the increase of C18H17NO6, the transferred rate of U251 and LN229 was not significantly augmented, expect that on U251 in C18H17NO65μM group. In addition, Scutellarin 200μM has little effect on proliferation, with the inhibition rate 10-20% and proliferation rate except U251 in Scutellarin 200μM group similar to that in control group. Moreover, compared to control group, Scutellarin 300μM increased the U251 cells in G2 and S phases and the apoptosis rate of LN229 but decreased the LN229 cells in G2 and S phases. Besides, in Scutellarin 200μM group, the transfer ability of LN229 was inhibited, but not in U251. Furthermore, if C18H17NO6was combined with Scutellarin 200/300μM, the proliferation and transferred ability were suppressed and the apoptosis was elevated in LN229 cell in comparison with C18H17NO6alone. Dramatically, the combined effect on U251 was the exact opposite. Importantly, there was little toxicity on astrocyte under the dose of C18H17NO6and Scutellarin in the study. In molecular level, the mRNA and protein expression of Fas-associated factor 1 (FAF1) expression in U251 and LN229 were upregulated by C18H17NO6and its combination with Scutellarin, especially the protein expression.Conclusion. C18H17NO6could efficiently suppress cell proliferation and induce cell apoptosis in glioma cells, and its combination with Scutellarin had a promoting effect, in which the underlying mechanism referred to the upregulation of Fas-associated factor 1.

The boiler-turbine unit is really a complex system in thermal power engineering due to its large-scale nonlinearity, unmeasured state, unknown disturbances, and constraints imposed on both controls and outputs. To design a controller with appropriate performance in above synthetical cases, this paper intends to propose an adaptively receding Galerkin optimal controller design method, in which, the mathematical dynamics of unit can be directly used as a predictive model without any linearization, and the unmeasured state in the predictive model is adaptively estimated using a predesigned state observer. With the help of a mathematical predictive model, optimal control law is then obtained based on a Galerkin optimization algorithm. Due to the application of the useful information measured at every sampling time instant, the proposed method can deal with the tracking problem with constraints rather than the stabilization problem that can be only done by the traditional Galerkin optimal control. Furthermore, it can also be easily extended to estimate and thus eliminate constant disturbances in an output channel using an independent model strategy. Some simulations suggest that satisfactory tracking performance can be achieved even when the unit experiences wide-range load change.

This work presents and investigates a new chaotic system with eight terms. By numerical simulation, the two-scroll chaotic attractor is found for some certain parameters. And, by theoretical analysis, we discuss the dynamical behavior of the new-type Lorenz-like chaotic system. Firstly, the local dynamical properties, such as the distribution and the local stability of all equilibrium points, the local stable and unstable manifolds, and the Hopf bifurcations, are all revealed as the parameters varying in the space of parameters. Secondly, by applying the way of Poincaré compactification in ℝ 3 , the dynamics at infinity are clearly analyzed. Thirdly, combining the dynamics at finity and those at infinity, the global dynamical behaviors are formulated. Especially, we have proved the existence of the infinite heteroclinic orbits. Furthermore, all obtained theoretical results in this paper are further verified by numerical simulations.

Dynamic response characteristics and antiseismic performance of the structures which were constructed on the super-deep overburden layer are affected obviously by the seismic motion characteristics of the super-deep overburden layer foundation. In this paper, the seismic motion characteristics of horizontally stratified super-deep overburdenIn this paper, the seismic motion characteristics of horizontally stratified super-deep overburden based on the research results of on-site in situ tests and indoor material property tests, the horizontal shear layer method that can consider the nonlinear characteristics of dynamic soil deformation and the characteristics of seismic wave propagation in the soil is used to study the characteristics of ground motions of super-deep and thick overburden level of an earth-rock dam in China. The influence law of input ground motion characteristics and input ground motion position on seismic response analysis results of overburden ground is studied. Taking the uniform overburden layer model as an example, the coupling influence analysis of soil layer thickness and shear velocity on ground motion response are carried out, and the coupling influence law is proposed. The study shows that the seismic motion propagating characteristics of the earthquake in super-deep overburden layer is involved, inputting location of the seismic motion affects the results of ground seismic response greatly; super-deep overburden layer thickness and the soil shear wave velocity on influence law of ground motion characteristics have coupling. When the shear wave velocity of the soil layer is constant, the surface acceleration response has an inflection point with the change of the soil layer thickness; when the thickness of overburden is constant, the surface acceleration response also has an inflection point with the change of shear wave velocity of the soil layer; these inflexion values are influenced by both soil thickness and shear wave velocity.

This paper constructs a model to measure longevity risk and explains the reasons for restricting the supply of annuity products in life insurance companies. According to the Lee–Carter Model and the VaR-based stochastic simulation, it can be found that the risk margin of the first type of longevity risk for ignoring the improvement of mortality rate is about 7%, and the risk margin of the second type of longevity risk for underestimating mortality improvement is about 7%. Therefore, the insurer needs to use cohort life table pricing premium and gradually prepares longevity risk capital during the insurance period.

This paper reviews the progress of the multiple population mortality model and the defects in parameter estimation and proposes an effective method to improve the performance of the mortality model. We set up a multiple population group, using the data of mainland China, Hong Kong (China), and Japan, to test fitting performance and forecasting performance. Using the TSWLS and TSSVD methods in a multiple population stochastic mortality model has advantages in fitting performance and robustness. In addition, the forecasting value of mortality ratio between any two populations can converge to a fixed constant in a certain time period which obeys the regular of human biological characteristics.

Gastric cancer, one of the most common types of cancers, develops over a series of consecutive histopathological stages. As such, the analysis and research of the gastric precancerous lesions (GPLs) play an important role in preventing the occurrence of gastric cancer. Ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3), an herbal medicine, plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of various cancers. Studies have demonstrated a correlation between glycolysis and gastric cancer progression. Herein, the aim of the present study was to clarify the potential role for glycolysis pathogenesis in Rg3-treated GPL in Atp4a−/− mice. The GPL mice model showed chronic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and more atypical hyperplasia in gastric mucosa. According to the results of HE and AB-PAS staining, it could be confirmed that GPL mice were obviously reversed by Rg3. Additionally, the increased protein levels of PI3K, AKT, mTOR, HIF-1α, LDHA, and HK-II, which are crucial factors for evaluating GPL in the aspect of glycolysis pathogenesis in the model group, were downregulated by Rg3. Meanwhile, the miRNA-21 expression was decreased and upregulated by Rg3. Furthermore, the increased gene levels of Bcl-2 and caspase-3 were attenuated in Rg3-treated GPL mice. In conclusion, the findings of this study imply that abnormal glycolysis in GPL mice was relieved by Rg3 via regulation of the expressions of PI3K, AKT, mTOR, HIF-1α, LDHA, HK-II, and miRNA-21. Rg3 is an effective supplement for GPL treatment and can be harnessed to inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis of GPL cells.

Aiming at the existing artificial potential field method, it still has the defects of easy to fall into local extremum, low success rate and unsatisfactory path when solving the problem of obstacle avoidance path planning of manipulator. An improved method for avoiding obstacle path of manipulator is proposed. First, the manipulator is subjected to invisible obstacle processing to reduce the possibility of its own collision. Second, establish dynamic virtual target points to enhance the predictive ability of the manipulator to the road ahead. Then, the artificial potential field method is used to guide the manipulator movement. When the manipulator is in a local extreme or oscillating, the extreme point jump-out function is used in real time to make the end point of the manipulator produce small displacements and change the action direction to effectively jump out of the dilemma. Finally, the manipulator is controlled to avoid all obstacles and move smoothly to form a spatial optimization path from the start point to the end point. The simulation experiment shows that the proposed method is more suitable for complex working environment and effectively improves the success rate of manipulator path planning, which provides a reference for further developing the application of manipulator in complex environment.

This study was aimed at elucidating the potential mechanisms of quercetin in the treatment of gastric cancer (GC). A network pharmacology approach was used to analyze the targets and pathways of quercetin in treating GC. The predicted targets of quercetin against GC were obtained through database mining, and the correlation of these targets with GC was analyzed by Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses. Next, the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed, and overall survival (OS) analysis of hub targets was performed using the Kaplan–Meier Plotter online tool. Finally, the mechanism was further analyzed via molecular docking of quercetin with the hub targets. Thirty-six quercetin-related genes were identified, 15 of which overlapped with GC-related targets. These targets were further mapped to 319 GO biological process terms and 10 remarkable pathways. In the PPI network analysis, six hub targets were identified, including AKT1, EGFR, SRC, IGF1R, PTK2, and KDR. The high expression of these targets was related to poor OS in GC patients. Molecular docking analysis confirmed that quercetin can bind to these hub targets. In conclusion, this study provided a novel approach to reveal the therapeutic mechanisms of quercetin on GC, which will ease the future clinical application of quercetin in the treatment of GC.

OBJECTIVES To assess sexual life and medication taking behaviours in young Chinese men. METHODS An online survey was conducted across China between January 2017 and April 2017. Among the participants, men aged 19-40 years were included in the analysis. The respondents filled in the online questionnaire assessing sexual life and medication taking behaviours by themselves, including general information, cognition of erectile dysfunction (ED) and treatment-related questions. Erection hardness score (EHS) was used to measure the erection hardness status. RESULTS Among the young respondents, 20.54% had grade I-II EHS, 58.14% searched the internet for online ED-related information, 26.49% took an ED medication and 50.89% took an ED medication without the advice of a physician or pharmacist. The vehicular communication networks, which can employ mobile, intelligent sensing devices with participatory sensing to gather data, could be an efficient and economical way to build various applications based on big data. However, high quality data gathering for vehicular communication networks which is urgently needed faces a lot of challenges. So, in this paper, a fine-grained data collection framework is proposed to cope with these new challenges. Different from classical data gathering which concentrates on how to collect enough data to satisfy the requirements of applications, a Quality Utilization Aware Data Gathering (QUADG) scheme is proposed for vehicular communication networks to collect the most appropriate data and to best satisfy the multidimensional requirements (mainly including data gathering quantity, quality, and cost) of application. In QUADG scheme, the data sensing is fine-grained in which the data gathering time and data gathering area are divided into very fine granularity. A metric named “Quality Utilization” (QU) is to quantify the ratio of quality of the collected sensing data to the cost of the system. Three data collection algorithms are proposed. The first algorithm is to ensure that the application which has obtained the specified quantity of sensing data can minimize the cost and maximize data quality by maximizing QU. The second algorithm is to ensure that the application which has obtained two requests of application (the quantity and quality of data collection, or the quantity and cost of data collection) could maximize the QU. The third algorithm is to ensure that the application which aims to satisfy the requirements of quantity, quality, and cost of collected data simultaneously could maximize the QU. Finally, we compare our proposed scheme with the existing schemes via extensive simulations which well justify the effectiveness of our scheme.

We aimed to determine the relationship between lower extremity peripheral arterial disease (PAD), 10-year coronary heart disease (CHD), and stroke risks in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) using the UKPDS risk engine. We enrolled 1178 hospitalized T2DM patients. The patients were divided into a lower extremity PAD group (ankle-brachial index≤0.9 or >1.4; 88 patients, 7.5%) and a non-PAD group (ankle-brachial index>0.9 and ≤1.4; 1090 patients, 92.5%). Age; duration of diabetes; systolic blood pressure; the hypertension rate; the use of hypertension drugs, ACEI /ARB, and statins; CHD risk; fatal CHD risk; stroke risk; and fatal stroke risk were significantly higher in the PAD group than in the non-PAD group (P<0.05 for all). Logistic stepwise regression analysis indicated that ABI was an independent predictor of 10-year CHD and stroke risks in T2DM patients. Compared with those in the T2DM non-PAD group, the odds ratios (ORs) for CHD and stroke risk were 3.6 (95% confidence interval (CI), 2.2–6.0; P<0.001) and 6.9 (95% CI, 4.0–11.8; P<0.001) in those with lower extremity PAD, respectively. In conclusion, lower extremity PAD increased coronary heart disease and stroke risks in T2DM.

Metal surface structure/biomedical function integration is the current research focus. In previous studies, we have successfully prepared the microporous coatings containing zinc on the pure titanium surface by MAO. In the study, osteoblasts were seeded on the surface of the microporous coatings containing zinc and the adhesion of osteoblasts were evaluated, and the antibacterial activity of the microporous coatings containing zinc is observed through in vitro bacterial experiments. The result indicates that the adhesion ability of osteoblasts on the surface of microporous coatings containing zinc was very good, and the coatings could obviously inhibit the growth ofStaphylococcus aureusand had good antibacterial activity. In conclusion, the microporous coatings containing zinc on titanium surface have good osteogenic and antibacterial properties and have good application prospect.

Although the optimization of wind turbine blade aerodynamic performance has achieved fruitful results, whether airfoil concavity, an important method for preventing flow separation, is also feasible for improving the aerodynamic performance has not been confirmed scientifically. Thus, we selected the blade of a small horizontal-axis wind turbine as a research model and proposed an optimization method based on airfoil concavity near the trailing edge of the blade suction surface. The experimental results showed that airfoil concavity improved blade aerodynamic performance by 3–15%. Subsequently, its effects on the sound pressure level within the wake flow field were investigated using an acoustic array, and the results suggested that the sound pressure level was reduced by 9.6–15.8%. Lastly, a modal test of the rotor blade was conducted. Although the natural frequencies of the 1st and 2nd order vibrations had hardly changed, their vibrational stiffness were increased by 7 and 4.9%, respectively, which indicated that airfoil concavity significantly improved structural robustness.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke are common complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We aimed to explore the differences in the risks of CHD and stroke between Chinese women and men with T2DM and their association with metabolic syndrome (MS). This study included 1514 patients with T2DM. The Asian Guidelines of ATPIII (2005) were used for MS diagnosis, and the UKPDS risk engine was used to evaluate the 10-year CHD and stroke risks. Women had lower CHD risk (15.3% versus 26.3%), fatal CHD risk (11.8% versus 19.0%), stroke risk (8.4% versus 10.3%), and fatal stroke risk (1.4% versus 1.6%) compared with men with T2DM (p<0.05–0.001). The CHD risk (28.4% versus 22.6%, p<0.001) was significantly higher in men with MS than in those without MS. The CHD (16.2% versus 11.0%, p<0.001) and stroke risks (8.9% versus 5.8%, p<0.001) were higher in women with MS than in those without MS. In conclusion, our findings indicated that Chinese women with T2DM are less susceptible to CHD and stroke than men. Further, MS increases the risk of both these events, highlighting the need for comprehensive metabolic control in T2DM.

Intestinal bacterial communities are highly relevant to the digestion, nutrition, growth, reproduction, and a range of fitness in fish, but little is known about the gut microbial community in Antarctic fish. In this study, the composition of intestinal microbial community in four species of Antarctic fish was detected based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing. As a result, 1 004 639 sequences were obtained from 13 samples identified into 36 phyla and 804 genera, in which Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, Thermi, and Bacteroidetes were the dominant phyla, andRhodococcus,Thermus,Acinetobacter,Propionibacterium,Streptococcus, andMycoplasmawere the dominant genera. The number of common OTUs (operational taxonomic units) varied from 346 to 768, while unique OTUs varied from 84 to 694 in the four species of Antarctic fish. Moreover, intestinal bacterial communities in individuals of each species were not really similar, and those in the four species were not absolutely different, suggesting that bacterial communities might influence the physiological characteristics of Antarctic fish, and the common bacterial communities might contribute to the fish survival ability in extreme Antarctic environment, while the different ones were related to the living habits. All of these results could offer certain information for the future study of Antarctic fish physiological characteristics.

For the fault diagnosis of intershaft bearings, the fusion information exergy distance method (FIEDM) is proposed by fusing four information exergies, such as singular spectrum exergy, power spectrum exergy, wavelet energy spectrum exergy, and wavelet space spectrum exergy, which are extracted from acoustic emission (AE) signals under multiple rotational speeds and multimeasuring points. The theory of FIEDM is investigated based on four information exergy distances under multirotational speeds. As for rolling bearings, four faults and one normal condition are simulated on a birotor test rig to collect the AE signals, in which the four faults are inner ring fault, outer ring fault, rolling element fault, and inner race-rolling element coupling fault. The faults of the intershaft bearings are analyzed and diagnosed by using the FIEDM. From the investigation, it is demonstrated that the faults of the intershaft bearings are accurately diagnosed and identified, and the FIEDM is effective for the analysis and diagnosis of intershaft bearing faults. Furthermore, the fault diagnosis precision of intershaft bearings becomes higher with increasing rotational speed.

Objective. Melasma is a highly prevalent, chronic, and pigmentary disorder. This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tranexamic acid (TA) for the treatment of adults with melasma. Methods. We independently searched 3 databases from beginning to 26 April, 2018. The study included 21 eligible trials. Two writers extracted data at the same time independently. Study outcomes were calculated by standardized mean differences (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). All statistical analyses were performed using Review Manager Version 5.3 and STATA Version 15.1. Results. The combined results showed that the use of TA was associated with reduced Melasma Area and Severity Index (MASI) and Melanin Index (MI). No significant difference in Erythema Index (EI) was observed with TA treatment. Side effects were minor, with a few cases reporting mild gastrointestinal reaction, oligomenorrhoea, hypopigmentation, urticarial rash, and skin irritation xerosis. Conclusion. The meta-analysis suggested that TA treatment appeared to be a promising therapeutic approach for melasma.
