In this study, the barrack building, which was built in the city center of Tunceli between 1935-1937 and was also known as "Mameki Barrack" at the time it was built, is discussed. The history of the building, its architectural features, functional changes, conservation problems, restoration and transformation into a city museum were examined. It developed after the construction of the barrack building in the city center. When the architectural texture of Tunceli is examined, the barrack building draws attention with its courtyard form and scale. The building's being the first city museum of Tunceli as a cultural heritage structure, together with its architectural features, should be handled as a whole with the architectural features and history of the building and its importance should be revealed. In this study, the history, restoration and functional changes of the building were investigated. It is focused on the fact that the building, which was used as a city museum, is one of the few registered cultural assets in Tunceli and its place in the city memory. Historic environments are cultural monuments that contain the traces of cities over time and their tangible and intangible values. Reflecting the building material, construction technique, aesthetics, social, cultural and economic characteristics of the period in which they were built, the buildings have survived to the extent that they adapt to the changes in time. It has been determined that one of the main problems in the restoration of the building, which is refunctionalized according to today's needs, is 'how to adapt the new to the existing texture, how to establish the old-new relationship'. In this context, architectural design approaches for new buildings/additions in the historic environment were analyzed. Since 1931, international principles, standards and declarations have been compiled. The industrial heritage in the Grade 3 archaeological site in Cumhuriyet Quarter, Tarsus District, Mersin Province is the study area of Boğaziçi University Gözlükule Excavations Research Center. The research design is based on the intervention decisions taken in the restoration of the building, design criteria and the impacts of the socioeconomic changes of the city on the building. The effort to reuse historical structures has been a constant endeavor from the past to the present. With the increase in the number of universities in Turkey since the 1990s, some of the universities in need of structure have converted historical buildings to higher education functions. In this study, in which the physical conditions of historical buildings functionalised as higher education buildings are evaluated, the historical building known as Frej Apartment used by Istanbul Galata University will be discussed as a case study. With the change of the building over time, the conditions of higher education buildings according to physical criteria were analysed. From this point of view, 'Physical environment control parameters are effective in determining spatial quality in historical places functionalised as educational buildings' is the hypothesis of the research. The findings show that the preservation of historical and spatial values as well as having functions to meet contemporary needs are the issues to be considered. As a result, considering the central location of the re-functionalised historical buildings and the cultural asset brought to the city, a sensitive approach has been exhibited both in terms of the educational infrastructure of our country and architectural style. Traditional buildings, which have an impact on the urban memory where the construction and planning processes were operated in the same period in the past, should be sustainable in conservation, protection and usage way. Applying a new function to buildings other than their original usage is associated with the following criteria: the requirements of the city and its inhabitants, the spatial arrangement and context of the building, and the provision of physical, economic, and socio-cultural sustainability. In this study, suggestions are introduced for the Antalya/Gazipaşa Customs building, which is a registered and traditional building. During the decision-making process, the potential new function of the building has been evaluated by Multi-Purpose Decision Making Processes and Analytical Hierarchy Processes, which are based on the building users, building owners and surrounding residents. Environmental and spatial analyzes of the Customs Building were accomplished, then the outcomes were observed in a participatory manner by evaluating the accepted upper and lower criteria. In conclusion, it was concluded that the building, which has an important architectural value, would be suitable to function as a city museum. Gaziantep, which has hosted many civilizations in thousands of years of geography; has always been one of Turkey's leading cities. The Hışvahan, which is considered within the scope of the study, was used as a structure where cotton trade was carried out and passengers passing through the caravan route were hosted in the years when it was first built; it has been an important stop connecting the western regions of the country with the eastern and southeastern neighboring countries. However, it was inevitable that this building, which is important for urban culture, remained idle over time. In the study, it is aimed to shed light on the concept of re-functioning and its contributions and to reveal how it can contribute to the survival of structures that can be evaluated in the context of cultural heritage that is being lost. In the article; in the re-functioning process, the factors that shape the design, the physical location of the building, its relationship with its environment, the relationship between the old and the new function, and interior space interventions are mentioned; while determining these intervention methods, the problems in preserving the original features of the buildings and respecting their historical values were discussed. The continuity of sociocultural sustainability, the creation of awareness of the past culture in the society and the preservation of urban identity are ensured through preservation of historical structures and transfer of the heritage to the future. In Kırşehir, the monuments are dated to the Seljuk Period and the mansions are dated to the beginning of the 20th century. The chosen mansions within the scope of this study have been transformed into museums, cafes/restaurants and Ahi Research Center with the preservation works they have undergone on different dates. With this study, the contribution of the refunctioned mansions to the urban identity and the user was attempted to be determined by a questionnaire conducted to a randomly selected user group. In this context, it has been determined that the level of protection and survival of historical monuments, which have been transformed with functions suitable for today's usage conditions, has increased. The sustainability of the buildings, which are effective in ensuring the continuation of the socicultural values of the city, through functional transformation are important practices that are effective in transferring the cultural footprint of the city to generations. With the development of urban areas, large and functional urban parks have been designed that appeal to all individuals regardless of age, gender and occupation. Segmenler Park can be given as an example of urban parks located in the city center. In order to revitalize this park, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality signed a protocol with Gazi University during the Murat Karayalçın period. This protocol, signed between the university and the municipality, has questioned the fact that another institution, instead of local governments, is working on the functionalization of both parks as an urban area and a place that is a natural protected area, within the scope of participation, which is a city right. In this context, first of all, the conceptual framework was drawn in the study. The protocol of Segmenler Park was examined in the study conducted with the literature research method. The histories of city parks and Segmenler Park were mentioned; Detailed information has been given by making use of the legislation on the use, maintenance and repair of these spaces. In this study, the potential of social space formation in the step streets and the affecting factors were discussed. Within the scope of the study, step streets, social space, public space, belonging to the city have been researched and aimed to establish conceptual links by associating them with the city. Just as there are popular step streets over the world, there are also step streets which attract attention in the historical regions of Istanbul. With the qualitative research method, the use of the public space of the staircase streets was examined through the parameters of accessibility, comfort, efficiency and aesthetics, and in this context, the success of use as a social space, the potentials of the stairs were determined by on-site observation and measurement methods. Within the scope of the study, Balat Merdivenli Mektep Street, Beyoğlu Hacı Ali Street and Üsküdar Yeni Dünya Street are evaluated in detail in terms of physical and social spatial features. Within the framework of the findings obtained, the contributions of the stairs to the environment and lifestyle were examined. The existence of the step streets as a social space and their participation in the city life were researched through the visibility of the social media, the photo and video sharing application "Instagram", and the visibility of the streets with the social media were evaluated through the users' shares. Spaces that provide their main functions during the period they were built cannot meet the needs over time and become out of use. With the change and progress of the conditions of the period, industrial structures that have lost their original function and become idle must be refunctionalized and regained back to the city. Industrial structures should be preserved as our cultural heritage, ensured sustainability and transferred to future generations. It is an intense process that industrial structures are re-functionalized and regained to the city with their new identities. The response it finds in its users is very important in order for the new function of the transformed building to be included in life and to be adopted. The transformation should be realized by evaluating the perception of the space to be re-functional on the human with all its dimensions. In this way, buildings will be able to find a response in people and life with their new functions while preserving their original identity. In this study, the perception of space on human beings was quantificationed and evaluated for buildings with different functions, re-functionalized from industrial buildings. According to the given function, the findings regarding the physical and emotional perception of the participant on the basis of the old and new functions, interior and facade, and evaluations were made. Eskişehir brought industrial production to forefront with the development plans following the proclamation of the Republic. The Factories Region was established in this period. Because many quarters occurred around the region, factories were stuck between settlements and lost their effectiveness as a result of increasing technology and were closed one by one. At this point some of the factory buildings were demolished, some buildings were preserved and began to be utilized for different services and some of them have been struggling with time. When factories are considered in terms of their value with regards to industrial heritage, they stand out in terms of both national value and social memory. Concerning the protection of this memory and identity, refunctioning has a vital role. By this means the wasting of the structures having lost their functions can be prevented. In this study the significance of the industrial heritage left by Eskişehir Factories Region was emphasized and its value in terms of the city identity tried to be revealed. In the research process data were gathered by conducting interviews with related actors. These data were utilized to offer suggestions regarding the transfer of industrial heritage to the future.
