A novel PWM full bridge (FB) dc–dc converter for large power industrial applications is proposed in this paper. The soft switching mode of the primary switches can be varied under different input and output conditions to achieve optimum system efficiency. In the zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) mode, the turn-on and turn-off switching loss can be optimized because the soft switching conditions of the turn-on and turn-off instants are well decoupled. In the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) mode, the turn-off switching loss can also be optimized because there is no requirement for light load operation in this mode. Four mosfets with ultra-low on-state resistance are used, thus, the added conduction loss is small. The auxiliary mosfets with high switching frequency are turned on with zero-current and off with zero-voltage, hence, the added switching loss can also be neglected. Furthermore, some drawbacks of the conventional ZVS and ZVZCS converters, e.g., narrow ZVS load range, high primary circulating current, incomplete reset of the primary current, and unreasonable VA rating of the added components, have been well solved. Conventional zero-voltage and zero-current-switching (ZVZCS) full-bridge converters are widely used because they can realize zero-voltage switching (ZVS) for the leading leg and zero-current switching (ZCS) for the lagging leg. However, the large turn-off loss of the leading leg is still unacceptable in high-voltage high-power applications where insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) with current tailing are employed. Hence, it is preferable to achieve ZCS for all IGBTs of full-bridge converters. This paper analyzes the ZCS conditions for pulsewidth modulated (PWM) full-bridge converters and proposes a general strategy for achieving ZCS for main switches, including the control strategy and design method of the topology. Based on this theory, a novel ZCS PWM full-bridge converter with simple auxiliary circuit is derived and tested. It can achieve ZCS not only for the main switches of full-bridge converter, but for the auxiliary switch as well, and obtain high efficiency. The operation principle of the proposed ZCS PWM full-bridge converter and the design procedure are presented. Soft switching pulse-width modulation (PWM) dc–dc full-bridge converter with controlled rectifier on the secondary side of the high-frequency power transformer is presented in this paper. An active secondary switch, including new nondissipative passive energy recovery turn-off snubber on the secondary side and modified PWM control algorithm, provide conditions for zero-voltage and zero-current turn-on and zero-current turn-off of IGBT transistors on the primary side of the high-frequency dc–dc converter. The simple passive energy recovery snubber ensures also zero-voltage turn-off of the transistor on the secondary side of the power transformer. In this paper, a new zero-voltage switching and resonant core reset pulse width modulation forward converter with a simple auxiliary circuit is introduced. The proposed auxiliary circuit can be applied to both single-switch and two-switch forward converters. The main and the auxiliary mosfets of the proposed converters operate under soft switching condition independent of line and load variation. Also, due to the capability of operating at duty cycles higher than 0.5, the proposed converters can be used for wide input voltage applications. In comparison to the existing zero-voltage transition (ZVT) forward converters, this auxiliary circuit has low number of components and also does not require any additional magnetic element which has improved the power density. The proposed converter is compared with exiting ZVT forward converters in details. The converter steady-state operation is analyzed and various operating modes are explained. Also, in addition to a design example, a comprehensive design procedure is presented. The experimental results of a laboratory prototype of the converter with 85–180 V input voltage and 24 V output voltage at 150 W are provided which verify the theoretical analysis and confirm the converter operation. This paper proposes a high-frequency-link soft-switching pulse-width modulated dc-dc converter for electric vehicle (EV) on-board battery chargers. Zero-voltage switching of power switches is achieved from light load to full load. Reverse-recovery losses can be reduced in the secondary side output diodes without using any additional circuit components. Zero-current switching of output diodes is achieved by using the series-resonant circuit in the secondary side. The circulating current in the primary side full-bridge circuit can be changed by the operation modes of the output diode current. As a result, a high efficiency can be achieved for EV on-board battery chargers. The performance of the proposed converter is evaluated throughout experimental results for a 2.0-kW prototype circuit. This paper presents a soft-switching pulsewidth modulation (PWM) nonisolated boost dc–dc converter embedding an edge-resonant switched capacitor (ER-SWC) cell and its interleaved circuit topology. The conceptual boost dc–dc converter treated herein can achieve high-frequency zero-current soft-switching turn-on and zero-voltage soft-switching turn-off operations in the active switches and minimization of a reverse recovering current in the freewheeling diode under discontinuous conduction mode partially including critical conduction mode in the input current. Those advantageous properties enable a wide range of soft-switching operations together with a high-voltage step-up conversion ratio with a reduced current stress. Circuit design guideline based on the soft-switching range is introduced; then, a theoretical analysis is carried out for investigating the step-up voltage conversion ratio. For demonstrating the effectiveness of the ER-SWC soft-switching PWM boost dc–dc converter and its newly developed interleaved topology, laboratory prototypes are evaluated in experiments; then, their performances are discussed from a practical point of view. The demand for nonisolated high step-up dc-dc converters in applications such as dc backup energy systems for UPS, photovoltaic and fuel cell systems, and hybrid electric vehicles has been gradually increasing. This paper proposes nonisolated step-up dc-dc converters with an improved switching method. The proposed converter shows zero-voltage switching turn-on of the switches in continuous conduction mode as well as reduced turn- off switching losses owing to the switching method that utilizes Lr-Cr resonance in the auxiliary circuit. Also, as a result of the proposed switching method, the switching losses associated with diode reverse recovery become negligible even in the small duty cycle. The capacitance in the auxiliary circuit is significantly reduced compared to the pulsewidth modulation method. The duty cycle loss is further reduced resulting in increased step-up ratio.
