A novel PWM full bridge (FB) dc–dc converter for large power industrial applications is proposed in this paper. The soft switching mode of the primary switches can be varied under different input and output conditions to achieve optimum system efficiency. In the zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) mode, the turn-on and turn-off switching loss can be optimized because the soft switching conditions of the turn-on and turn-off instants are well decoupled. In the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) mode, the turn-off switching loss can also be optimized because there is no requirement for light load operation in this mode. Four mosfets with ultra-low on-state resistance are used, thus, the added conduction loss is small. The auxiliary mosfets with high switching frequency are turned on with zero-current and off with zero-voltage, hence, the added switching loss can also be neglected. Furthermore, some drawbacks of the conventional ZVS and ZVZCS converters, e.g., narrow ZVS load range, high primary circulating current, incomplete reset of the primary current, and unreasonable VA rating of the added components, have been well solved. Soft switching pulse-width modulation (PWM) dc–dc full-bridge converter with controlled rectifier on the secondary side of the high-frequency power transformer is presented in this paper. An active secondary switch, including new nondissipative passive energy recovery turn-off snubber on the secondary side and modified PWM control algorithm, provide conditions for zero-voltage and zero-current turn-on and zero-current turn-off of IGBT transistors on the primary side of the high-frequency dc–dc converter. The simple passive energy recovery snubber ensures also zero-voltage turn-off of the transistor on the secondary side of the power transformer. This paper first starts with reviewing several commonly practiced PWM schemes for the three-phase isolated buck matrix-type rectifier. Then, an optimal six-segment PWM scheme (“Type A”) is proposed. The analysis shows “Type A” PWM scheme has lower duty-cycle loss, maximum output inductor current ripple, and minimum switching loss comparing with other PWM schemes when the mosfet devices are employed. In addition, a low input current total harmonic distortion (THD) can be achieved with duty-cycle compensation. Finally, the steady-state analysis of duty-cycle loss, inductor current ripple, and THD are all compared and verified by the experimental results for “Type A” PWM and eight-segment PWM (“Type E”). This paper introduces a combination of two proposed efficiency improvement techniques for a microinverter with current mode control zero-voltage switching output stages. The first technique is dynamic dead-time optimization wherein pulse width modulation dead times are dynamically adjusted as a function of load current. The second method is advanced phase skipping control which maximizes inverter efficiency by controlling power on individual phases depending on the available input power from the photovoltaic source. Neither of the techniques requires any additional circuit components and both can be easily implemented in digital controller firmware. The two techniques were designed and implemented in a 400-W three-phase microinverter prototype. The experimental results validate the theoretical analysis of these techniques and demonstrate that a significant efficiency improvement can be achieved by combining the two proposed control techniques. A zero-voltage switching (ZVS) grid-connected full-bridge inverter and its modulation schemes are investigated. A novel sinusoidal pulse width modulation scheme for the ZVS full-bridge inverter (ZVS SPWM) is proposed in this paper. The ZVS SPWM is evolved from the double-frequency SPWM by adding gate drive to the auxiliary switch. The ZVS condition is analyzed and the circulation loss of the resonant branch is optimized by adjusting the energy storage in the resonant inductor. The reverse recovery of the body-diode of MOSFET is relieved and ZVS is realized for both main and auxiliary switches. The filter inductors are significantly reduced with higher switching frequency. The design guideline of resonant parameters and the implementation of ZVS SPWM in DSP controller are introduced. The ZVS SPWM scheme is verified on a 3-kW inverter prototype. A novel winding-coupled bidirectional dc/dc converter with zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) performance is proposed in this paper. In the low-voltage side, the parallel configuration is employed to share the large current and reduce the current ripple. In the high-voltage side, the series structure is adopted to sustain the high bus voltage and achieve large voltage ratio conversion. There are only two coupled inductors in the proposed interleaved bidirectional converter and their secondary windings are in series to serve as winding-coupled inductors. Furthermore, the two winding-coupled inductors can be integrated into a magnetic core to reduce the passive component numbers and improve the power density. Moreover, ZVS soft-switching operation is implemented for all the power switches to minimize the switching losses by introducing the active clamp scheme. In addition, the pulsewidth modulation plus phase-shift control strategy is employed to reduce the power MOSFET peak current and diminish the circulating losses. The duty cycle is applied to balance the voltages of both sides. The phase-shift angle is introduced to realize the power flow regulation. This decoupling control strategy is advantageous for bidirectional dc/dc conversion to realize high efficiency. Finally, a 1-kW prototype is built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.
