The article profiles electrical engineer Gano Dunn. He was born on October 18, 1970 in New York and graduated from the City College of New York in 1889. He received a degree in electrical engineering in 1891 at Columbia University. He was the recipient of the 1937 Edison Medal from the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE). Dunn was cited for his contributions in extending the science and art of electrical engineering, in the administration of great engineering works and for inspiring leadership in the profession. He was an active participant in an effort to gain adoption of a code of ethics by the AIEE. From 1886-1891, Dunn worked for the Western Union Telegraph Company. He also participated the engineering staff of the Crocker-Wheeler Manufacturing Company.

Fraud isn't new, but in the eyes of many experts, phishing and crimeware threaten to topple society's overall stability because they erode trust in its underlying computational infrastructure. Most people agree that phishing and crimeware must be fought, but to do so effectively, we must fully understand both types of threat; that starts by quantifying how and when people fall for deceit. Our society is undergoing pervasive digitalization. It's not an understatement to say that every facet of human endeavor is being profoundly changed by computing and digital technologies. The article discusses roboethics, which covers not just the ethics of human designers and the quality involved in the creation of robots, but the way they are to interact with people. Roboethics has been addressed during the First International Symposium on Roboethics that took place in Sanremo, Italy in 2004. It also notes the complexity of the development of roboethics, which involved the process of preserving the principles of human rights and dignity in the robot.

The author focuses on ethics on medical research and in intensive care units. He discusses the importance of checklist in providing health care to patients in intensive care units wherein most errors are committed by medical personnel who fail to perform proper procedures to prevent infections. He describes the checklist developed by Peter Provonost at Johns Hopskins Hospital to prevent infections which resulted to improvement in the standard of care in medical services. He also discusses the checklists developed by the Michigan Health and Hospital Association which resulted to financial savings for the organization and saving of lives of patients.

This article focuses on the education of engineering ethics. As philosopher Michael Davis has pointed out, from teaching engineering ethics there are at least four good things that can result. Students can learn ethical standards, become more aware of the ethical implications of their work, they can become better judges of ethical conduct, and they can become more willing to put their ethical knowledge into action. Educational researchers so far have concentrated mostly on the third outcome: the ability to judge ethical conduct.

The Declaration of Helsinki and Belmont Report motivated the growth of bioethics alongside traditional biomedical research. Unfortunately, no equivalently active ethics discipline has paralleled the growth of computer security research, where serious ethical challenges are regularly raised by studies of increasingly sophisticated security threats (such as worms, botnets, and phishing). In this absence, program committees and funding agencies routinely must judge the acceptability of research studies. Such judgments are often difficult because of a lack of community consensus on ethical standards, disagreement about who should enforce standards and how, and limited experience applying ethical decision-making methods. This article motivates the need for such a community, touching on the extensive field of ethical decision making, examining existing ethical guidelines and enforcement mechanisms used by the computer security research community, and calling the community to joint action to address this broad challenge. In multiagent interactions, such as e-commerce and file sharing, being able to accurately assess the trustworthiness of others is important for agents to protect themselves from losing utility. Focusing on rational agents in e-commerce, we prove that an agent's discount factor (time preference of utility) is a direct measure of the agent's trustworthiness for a set of reasonably general assumptions and definitions. We propose a general list of desiderata for trust systems and discuss how discount factors as trustworthiness meet these desiderata. We discuss how discount factors are a robust measure when entering commitments that exhibit moral hazards. The author presents his views on various approach to ethical resolutions for 2008. He believes that many of the people making resolutions for 2008 will not achieve them because of substandard performance. He provides a few suggestions on how to make a resolution or amend a resolution. Many resolutions are difficult or frustrating to achieve because it is vague and leaves too many questions unanswered. Moreover, he stated that goals should be easy to define that leaves little to no interpretation.
