Abstract

The attractive features of cloud platforms such as low cost, high availability and scalability are encouraging social networks, health and other service providers to outsource their client data to the cloud. Though there are many advantages of using cloud-based solutions, the privacy of the outsourced data is a major concern. Compromised cloud servers can leak sensitive information about users such as the incident of the iCloud celebrity data leakage. One practical solution to mitigate these concerns is to encrypt or anonymize the data before outsourcing to the cloud. Although encryption protects the data from unauthorized access, it increases the computational complexity to execute the required functions (e.g., similarity or nearest neighbour search), which is the key requirement for different social discovery applications. On the other hand, anonymization supports privacy-preserving fast computation but inefficient anonymization may result in huge data utility loss. In this thesis, I have designed an efficient approach to perform the secure nearest neighbour search in high dimensional space. The proposed framework utilizes the advantages of Intel Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX) architecture and efficient anonymization methods to perform the secure nearest neighbour search.

Abstract

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project, Long Term Evolution (LTE) has recently completed its specifications for connected vehicular (V2X) service. In the meantime, researchers in academia and industry are addressing its security issues involving applications, network, and medium access control (MAC) layer protocols. However, the security issue in regard to resource allocation has never been considered until now. Especially in LTE PC5 link, resource allocation with a regular pattern (semi-persistence) to deliver V2X periodic messages may leak the location privacy, even when the other protocol layers are tightly secured. In this proposed paper, we provide a secure resource allocation strategy where the vehicular users employ different resource allocation approaches to various types of message deliveries to preserve their privacy. Specifically, the emergency message delivery, being the most time critical and occurring in random time, is provisioned using PC5 autonomous resource allocation (ARA) to protect the privacy. To curtail the collision, we propose a novel ARA approach called random access with status feedback (RASFB) based on Rel. 12 mode 2. The performance analysis shows the higher performance of the proposed RASFB when compared with the Rel. 12 and Rel. 14 without sacrificing security. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Having a functional Web-based learning environment is a norm for a large number of educational institutions today. But publishing plain e-learning materials in this environment does not contribute significantly to student's learning unless a sound pedagogical framework is adopted behind this process. Substantial researches have been done in the area of adaptive and intelligent tutoring systems to develop Web-based intelligent learning environments (WILE) where the student's current knowledge about the subject matter is stored in a student model database and therefore the materials are presented according to the student's learning need. In most cases, contents are an intrinsic part of these kind of learning environments, and difficult to port to another environment in the case of reuse. This paper introduces a framework to develop dynamic content for a SCORM-conformant Web-based intelligent learning environment that can be ported to another similar kind of learning environment.
