In this work the prospects of analytical application of semiconductor nanocrystals synthesized using laser fragmentation method are discussed. The method of fluorescent CdSe nanoparticles synthesis using fragmentation of its powder suspension in dimethylformamide as well as optical properties of produced nanoparticles are described. The fragmentation method allows simple and efficient production of ultrasmall nanocrystals of high purity with unique properties that give good opportunity for using such structures as light emitting species in electrochemiluminescent analytical techniques and for biological imaging.

The aim of this work is to demonstrate how a complex network can be deployed to solve a distributed resource allocations and execution problems. It is highly demanded to provide useful algorithms and methodologies to facilitate the usage of networks. Software engineering techniques can be one of the tools to achieve an accepted solution. In this work, we companied more than one discipline, artificial intelligent entities (agents) with heuristic solutions to achieve such requirements. The organization of agents, in this paper, demonstrates an improvement in the quality of services delivered from a network of agents to solve task allocation and execution issues.

This paper discusses how the performance of a network of agents can be improved using a self-organisation technique. The multi-agent network performance can be improved by organizing the agents in clusters. Furthermore, principles of self-organisation can be used to create agent organisations triggered when some of the agents have high load. Hence, busy agents within the network may decide to create an organisation to receive extra support from other less busy agents in order to execute more tasks. The paper presents a simulation based on Repast Simphony that has been used to develop the proposed model and describes a set of experiments showing the performance of the system with and without the self-organisation technique.

An optimized circuit for processing of EMG signals has been designed and presented in this paper. This circuit acquires EMG signals from surface of the skin using bipolar electrodes and enables the amputee to control the prosthetic hand in an efficient manner. EMG can be defined as the electrical potential produced due to the contraction of muscle. It can be picked from the residual portion of muscles of an amputee. EMG signal requires the processes of amplification, band limiting and rectification, before it can be fed to an analog to digital converter (ADC) and subsequently to motors driving the prosthetic device.

One of the Malaysian government's missions in achieving its 2020 vision includes developing and providing access to ICTs in the country. In fact, the government has been aggressive in its initiative in providing the necessary environment to empower the people in ICT through various innovations in computer and technology. This paper discusses the impact on a particular community in East Malaysia, with the introduction of a computer innovation named JENii. This product is designed by the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS). The findings showed that the device is well accepted by the community and several benefits were derived. The paper ends by proposing a framework which can be used as a guide in helping the Malaysian government's initiative in bridging the digital divide and in encouraging its citizens to move towards an e-inclusion society. The framework is named the AI4 framework, which includes access, adaptability, acceptance, attitude, innovation and inclusion.

The diffusion of information and communication technology (ICT) for adoption among the elderly faces the issue of reluctant to adopt and use the technology. Unlike some of the other categories of users, individuals in this category show little interest to use ICT. Reasons for not using ICT among the elderly are fear of the technology, do not know how to use, do not need the computer, and cannot afford to buy computer and fee for Internet connection. As the elderly are perceived to be low ICT literate and fear to technology, their desire to use the technology need to be develop through provision of simple and easy to use technology. A simple gadget called Jendela Informasi Anda (literally translate as your window of information) or in short JENii was developed and introduced to this segment of the population as a strategic step to bridge the age digital divide. JENii contains easy applications and steps to teach the elderly on how to operate the gadget, how to access the content and how to overcome minor technical problems. This paper reports on the findings from the impact study on the use of JENii among the 26 pioneer users in Kota Kinabalu areas in East Malaysia. The focus of the discussion is on perception and experiences of users in using JENii. The study employed survey and focus group discussion. The findings indicate that the users' interest to use JENii depend on the knowledge to operate JENii i.e. to on and off, use the icons, and seek the information. Some users report that they don't use JENii often because they forget how to operate it and the content is not updated. Thus, the users feel frustrated and their motivation and interest level to use JENii will definitely decrease. The paper concludes that the introduction of JENii is a right step by the government to encourage wider usage of ICT and to address the issue of digital divide among the society, especially the marginalized group such as the adults and elderly.
