Micro aerial vehicle (MAV) gradually gains plentiful attention in recent years. However, it is still a full challenge to design MAVs with high aerodynamic performance because aerodynamic efficiency of wings deteriorates sharply at low Reynolds numbers. Under this circumstance, we focus on one unconventional configuration with annular wing, which can be folded from a square paper. The annular paperplane configuration is described with geometric parameters, and the longitudinal and lateral aerodynamic characteristics are studied with RANS method.

Flying robot has been widely used for both civilian and military application due to its portability and high maneuverability. However, mission endurance decreases with shrinking size due to reduction in aerodynamic efficiency and poor energy density of battery. Inspired by birds perching after long-distance migration, extended mission duration would be desired if flying robot obtains the ability of perching. In present paper, longitudinal dynamics of fixed wing flying robot is explored in the process of post-stall perching. First, the longitudinal kinematical equations and dynamic equations are derived for the simplified model of a flying robot and solved using the methods of value iteration and time advancement. Then, typical perching trajectory is generated and features of perching behaviors are analyzed. Finally, an impact study is carried out to acquire the influence of approaching velocity and control sequence.

Trailing edge variable camber (TEVC) system, as one of the new technologies exploited in transport aircraft design, has demonstrated great values in reducing fuel consumption. This paper focuses on mechanical and aerodynamic study of the TEVC system that could be used on the present and future civil aircraft. The TEVC system based on 2D cruise foil has been modeled and mechanism simulation demonstrates the excellence of kinematic characteristics. Besides, TEVC system performance for takeoff and landing has been evaluated. The results show the system could ensure takeoff and landing performance. Finally, TEVC system has been used to change trailing edge camber on the basis of 2D cruise foils. In the entire range of Cl available during cruise, the L/D of initial cruise foil has been improved, which shows great benefits on aerodynamics.
