Here, we experimentally demonstrate a faithful single-photon qubits transmission using error-rejecting coding, resorting to neither ancillary photons nor entangled photon resources. Using unbalanced polarization interferometer, the polarization qubits are transferred into the state on time-bin degree of freedom. Additionally, the deterministic transmission of single photon quantum states can be achieved with high fidelity. The immunity of time-bin encoded qubits against collective noise paves the way to practical quantum error-correction and error-rejection in quantum information science. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Detecting and weighing individual nanoparticles is an important approach to studying the behavior and properties of single particles. Here, we illustrate an effective mass sensing scheme using optomechanical resonator system. Based on the optomechanically induced transparency phenomenon, a Stokes’ field reference approach is used to sense the mass of the particle on the microresonator. The field intensity of the transmission field will be changed by the effect of the particle, which avoids the limits of decay-induced spectral width in the resonance shift detection. Exploiting the perturbation method, we theoretically evaluated the dynamical behavior of the system and achieved femtogram-level mass sensing without the need for high cavity $Q$ -value, as well as strong coupling strength in the optomechanical system. Whether it be a road, railway track, pipeline, or fiber-optic cable, achieving a low probability of “cable” damage is important for the proper operation of modern infrastructure. This paper considers the fundamental problem of how to connect two points with a cable that crosses an earthquake fault line. We first develop a model, under certain general assumptions, for the cable break probability. Then, we formulate a multiobjective optimization problem, with cable cost and probability of cable break being the two objectives. For two important and meaningful sets of cable shape alternatives, the Pareto front is determined for these two objectives. All the analytical results are verified by simulations. An optical high-order sideband comb generation scheme is theoretically and numerically studied in a photonic molecule optomechanical system. The photonic molecule optomechanical system consists of two directly coupled optical microcavities with one cavity of the molecule supports a mechanical mode. The system is coherently driven by an input two-tone laser, which consists of a continuous-wave coupling field and an intense continuous-wave pump field. Based on the nonlinear effect of high-order sideband generation in the nonperturbative regime, the optical high-order sideband combs consisting of equally spaced spectral lines in frequency space can be generated in both cavities of the molecule. This paper reveals that the comb generation is associated with the cavity-cavity coupling strength, and the comb generation and manipulation in a controlled way might be achieved using the proposed setup. A memory-efficient hardware string searching engine for antivirus applications is presented. The proposed QSV method is based on quick sampling of the input stream against fixed-length pattern prefixes, and on-demand verification of variable-length pattern suffixes. Patterns handled by the QSV method are required to have at least 16 bytes, and possess distinct 16-byte prefixes. The latter requirement can be fulfilled by a preprocessing procedure. The search engine uses the pipelined Aho-Corasick (P-AC) architecture developed by the first author to process 4 to 15-byte short patterns and a small number of exception cases. Our design was evaluated using the ClamAV virus database having 82,888 strings with a total size that exceeds 8 Mbyte. In terms of byte count, 99.3 percent of the pattern set is handled by the QSV method and 0.7 percent of the pattern set is handled by P-AC. A pattern with distinct 16-byte prefix only occupies up to three lookup table entries in QSV. The overall memory cost of our system is about 1.4 Mbyte, i.e., 1.4 bit per character of the ClamAV pattern set. The proposed method is memory-based, hence, updates to the pattern set can be accommodated by modifying the contents of the lookup tables without reconfiguring the hardware circuits.
