BIM is the abbreviation of Building Information Modeling, which refers to the technology of creating and maintaining digital information of construction products and its engineering application in the whole life cycle of construction projects. It has five characteristics: visualization, simulation, coordination, plotting and optimization. All engineering majors are independent in teaching and practice, which is easy to form an information island. According to the requirements of new engineering construction, the upgrading and transformation of BIM based engineering multi specialty collaborative new engineering industry education integration talent training mode has been put on the agenda. To build a multi professional collaborative BIM new engineering practice education platform of Tianjin University Ren'ai College - intelligent construction innovation college, and form the “433” BIM new engineering practice education mode, change the simple confirmatory practice teaching form, solve the problem that practice teaching is not closely linked with theory, and form a benign “interactive mechanism” with theoretical teaching, so as to improve the quality of applied talents training.

A study of the problems of ensuring security should begin with the sector itself, namely industry. Industry includes a significant number of industries ranging. The strengthening of existing threats and the emergence of new ones have a significant negative impact on the engineering industry, as one of the most sensitive among others. The article proposes a map of choosing the anti-crisis management strategy for ensuring the financial security of the enterprise, which, unlike the existing ones, is formed on the basis of the need to take into account four basic parameters: the type of security system, the type of threat exposure, the existence of a need for anti-crisis management and the availability of resources, all together allowed substantiate the content of eight possible strategy options. It allows substantiating the content of eight possible strategy options, the application of which allows minimizing the occurrence of a crisis, implementing protective anti-crisis measures with maximum efficiency and ensuring the necessary level of enterprise protection. For example, ten leading Eastern European engineering enterprises were selected to reflect the practical application of the strategy selection card. The positioning of the enterprise occurred taking into account expert research.

The application of current reverse engineering techniques can be integrated into a modern field of tools that support the development of the economy not only in the engineering industry. The main idea of this paper is to diagnose problems with a non-destructive method by use of the created device and reverse engineering tools, to obtain data that will be merged into individual views and obtain a cloud of points transformed into spatial views of hard-to-reach machine part locations.

Digitalised production based on networked, cyber-physical systems is the basis of the fourth industrial revolution (“Industry 4.0”). Yet, the adoption of this technology in practice remains a challenge for many companies. One of the main obstacles is the high complexity of Industry 4.0 applications, whose engineering requires multidisciplinary expertise that is usually fragmented among different stakeholders. This paper proposes a viewpoint-oriented approach for engineering Industry 4.0 applications, aiming to better adapt system models to the various stakeholders and concerns. The approach uses a combination of existing or emerging standards in the areas of systems and software engineering (ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010:2011) and Industry 4.0 (RAMI 4.0, IEC 61131-3). On this basis, the paper elaborates the notion of viewpoints with respect to their modelling and implementation including an industrial use case.

The use of contemporary reverse engineering techniques may be classified in the modern field of tools which enhance the development of the economy not only in the engineering industry. Nowadays, the producers of reverse engineering devices come up daily with new possibilities of how to significantly reduce the preparation time and rationalize the development process, yet the link between the non-destructive diagnostics and reverse engineering is still not covered. This article considers the aim of creating a device, by integrating a specific software and hardware platform, which will serve to diagnose hard to reach places, and based on data recovered by the technique of laser beam scanning, identify trouble spots and find convenient solutions for creating new components or modifying old ones.

The issues of cable insulation temperature monitoring are one of the topical problems of the electric power engineering industry. One of the most promising researches in this field is the development of techniques for the cable insulation remaining life determination. It can be calculated using the insulation temperature monitoring data and data about other influences that have a significant effect on the insulation material. The possible ways of the insulation temperature monitoring of XLPE-insulated cable power lines were analyzed. Technical solutions for the use of contact, non-contact temperature sensors and fiber-optic conductors are considered. They depend on the features of the monitoring object. Block diagrams of the cable insulation temperature monitoring are proposed. Experimental cable surface temperature measurement using the multi-zone contact temperature sensors was carried out. The measurement showed uneven distribution of the cable surface temperature both in sunny and cloudy weather. The temperature difference exceeds the sensors inaccuracy and increases with the environment temperature growth. The cable insulation temperature monitoring allows calculating its residual life, determining the location of the defect, implementing thermal protection of the cable and increasing its throughput.

The article is devoted to manufacturing of highquality products one of the most promising methods of RP — technology. Is provided Brief description of the principle working of the method and equipment, on which was manufactured prototypes. The morphology obtained in the mode of atomic force microscopy explains the mechanism of formation of the surface layer prototypes. Also according to the results obtained using coordinate measuring machine has been set, that the deviation of the forms of mutual position of surfaces of all experienced samples manufactured by the method of DLP is reduced to a single pattern. Analysis of the results of the study gave opportunity to establish the most important factors influencing the roughness and the accuracy parameters of the samples. Based on the results of the study, we can conclude about the prospects and possibilities of application of the method DLP RP technology in the engineering industry for manufacturing high quality products.

The article discusses possibilities of applying innovative and advanced CALS — technologies, and advanced automation of production through the introduction of rapid prototyping techniques. The results of developing the dependencies of wear intensity of machine parts surfaces from conditions of their final longitudinal turning and their final cylindrical grinding with radial supply based on the energy approach were presented. The models found give an opportunity to scientific improvement and creating of knowledge-intensive functionally-oriented techniques that allow increasing wear resistance of parts and their junctions in engineering industry workpieces

This paper discusses plans to establish the ‘TIES to STEM’ outreach program for K-12 STEM school teachers at our University. TIES denotes Training in Engineering Skills and comprises the engineering education program, the pre-engineering curriculum, and the cyber-instructional networks to integrate the K-12 STEM education programs with the engineering disciplines at institutes of higher education. The engineering education program creates the opportunity for K-12 school teachers to learn and apply the engineering design process, engineering technology, and skills in the products approved and used by the engineering industry. The teachers will be better prepared to (a) teach STEM concepts to the K-12 students (b) revise the content and delivery of the K-12 STEM curriculum (c) advance their STEM careers in engineering and engineering technology. The pre-engineering curriculum for the middle school and high school students (a) improves the STEM preparation of the students (b) motivates and encourages the students to pursue degree programs in engineering and/or engineering technology at institutes of higher education. The networks based on cyber-instruction facilitate the widespread dissemination of course content, involve the teachers from widespread K-12 schools and school districts, and promote cohort identification and professional collaboration among the educators.

The U.S. government has called for more STEM professionals in order to remain competitive as a nation. Increased participation of women and minorities in these fields will capture the rich diversity of their lived experiences and contributions. Many studies examine these issues for women or minorities, but less frequently consider the intersection of gender and race. There have been quantitative studies conducted in recent years that attempt to capture why women leave engineering. However, they lack the rich description at the intersection of race and gender necessary to understand the impetus to leave engineering industry. Identity theory is the theoretical framework utilized for understanding how engineering industry culture fits with how these women see themselves and feel like they belong or do not belong in engineering. Identity theory can illustrate the meanings that Black women attribute to themselves as engineers and how they negotiate their perceived membership in engineering based on interpretations of status differences, legitimacy and stability of those status differences. This paper presents insight in to methods of data collection, analysis process, and preliminary research results.

The established engineering industry within the automotive sector are confronted with the challenge, caused by the electrification of cars, to acquire competences for production processes and technologies which are completely unknown to them. After the identification of the suitable technology, it has to be developed, deployed and transferred. The most critical step is the development of an unknown production process and technology competence for which a holistic guideline is necessary. For that reason a methodology concerning the strategic alignment of technological competence innovations in disruptive markets is being developed.

It is still a concerned issue to engineering industries that how to improve the high liquid limit clay as subgrade-filling. This article analyzed the three improvement methods about admixing lime, cement, and both cement and fly ash by field tests datum, and conducted CBR test. The results show that using the method of mixing cement and fly ash together to improve high liquid limit clay as subgrade-filling materials is a more economical and effective improvement method.

To produce an item defect-free has been a challenge in engineering industry. Well-established statistical methods are available to estimate the reliability of the product, but such methods are mostly applicable when a large data base is available. Attempts have been made through various logical means to design and produce a component with high reliability. Identifying the critical parameters and essentially their inter-connectivity are major issues to ensure reliability. A concept christened as Bird's Nest is evolved to bring out all issues of design, manufacturing, marketing etc. in a single frame. Availability of such information in the beginning of a development process helps in a big way to achieve defect free and safe system.

A teaching methodology is discussed in this paper to meet the need for enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of course learning for undergraduate who major in engineering rather than computer science. The methodology is a combination method of theoretical teaching and practical experience. The exploration of course content arrangement as well as teaching method is discussed in detail, and design of lab experiment is analyzed in order to improve course learning. The result shows the effectiveness of the methodology through students' performance.

The Taiwanese IT companies started to emerge and gain their world-wide market shares in recent years. Those companies started to make good profits a few years back but also attracted foreign technological companies' attention claiming for infringements of the patents owned by those companies. For some reasons (such as competitions), Taiwanese companies (e.g., PC and network device manufacturers) do not have a unified way of dealing with foreign attackers. When approached by foreign claimers, these companies have been choosing to respond by their own methods and strategies. Our research targeted some major Taiwanese companies by studying and analyzing their capabilities and potentials. We also traced back to collect and review the proceeding details of how the Taiwanese companies performed in the meetings when technical assertions were held. Several observations and problems will be identified and recommendations will be drawn. It presents urgent needs to direct and foster patent engineering industry in Taiwan in order to retain its competitive advantage of accelerating forward.

This study focuses on the technical engineering and consulting business which is a significant sub-sector of technology-related knowledge-intensive business services. The objective of the study is to explore the cross-border acquisitions - purchases and sales - of Finnish engineering consulting firms during the past decade 1997- 2006 in terms of the amount of transactions and the geographical distribution of acquiring and target nations. The motives and intended effects of acquisitions were also studied and compared to literature reviews and general industry characteristics. For most parts, the results are in line with the literature reviews, showing that product and market extensions are the most significant motives for cross- border acquisitions. Instead, knowledge acquisition especially for promoting innovation and R&D capabilities is not so apparent in the motives. Moreover, the geographical distribution in the Finnish sample does not yet clearly indicate a global movement of the industry towards the east, e.g. Asia. However, the strategies for market extensions of these knowledge-intensive firms in many cases seem to be implemented by other types of organizational changes than cross-border acquisitions. The results of the study also provide several possibilities for in-depth further studies of the motives and effects of acquisitions and future comparative studies of other geographical areas.

The innovation patterns in Finnish engineering consultancies are analyzed in terms of service innovation types. The utilized typology of service innovations includes four dimensions: new service concepts, new client interfaces, organizational innovations and technological options. The empirical findings indicate that innovations in Finnish engineering consultancies mainly occur as client-led innovations and innovations through services. Typical examples of innovations are related to new organizational models and networks, which help working with the clients, and technology-based innovations, which can take the form of new software. Based on the analysis, we draw some preliminary conclusions about the general development needs in innovation patterns of the engineering consultancy sector. We also outline some potential directions for future studies

High skills are today seen as being of vital importance to economies, industries, companies and individuals. The engineering industry is no exception and the graduate engineer has a key position in this regard. In the research reported in this paper, the authors use in-depth interviews with industry experts to investigate the provision of undergraduate engineering education in the UK. The current and future skill needs of industry are examined. A typology of future engineering roles and their requisite attributes is proposed. Implications for undergraduate engineering are also discussed.

In this paper we adopt an intellectual capital framework to support research into the current state of the UK engineering industry. We describe the development of the framework and present a snapshot of the industry based on the views of leading industry practitioners and observers.

This paper focuses on the following areas: the motivation and elements that have come together to precipitate the electric power industry restructuring ; the concept of electric power industry deregulation; the benefits of deregulation, and issues presently confronting deregulation; the key participants and sectors of electric power industry deregulation; the industry-academic divide, and ways to bridge the gap through industry-academic collaboration; the introduction of "new" electric power programs in academia, and resources that address the needs of this "new" power industry landscape; special literature, courses and topics that could help prepare both novice and experienced engineers for careers in the present electric power engineering industry, and its related disciplines; and research and career opportunities within the "new" electric power industry.

Consulting engineering involves teams sharing information and tasks to create a project. Thus it would seem a suitable area for telecommuting. However, the nature of engineering work creates difficulties with issues related to: payment, team interaction, mentorship, security, legal issues and document control. Consequently it seems that only part-time telecommuting is a viable work strategy for this industry. The paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting and the consulting engineering industry in Alberta.

A recent nationwide survey to the Swedish Engineering Industry disclosed that the understanding and use of reliability and safety methods by the small and medium sized companies on an average was distressingly low. Less than 30% of the smaller companies were familiar with reliability. In 1996, based on a survey and a following "out-line study", a new project was initiated by the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries, VI, and its Reliability Committee Te 5/2. The goal was to develop and document a program for "cooperative reliability development by small and medium-sized companies of the Swedish industrial sector". It will offer help to companies to initiate need based and local reliability work/activities. Starting point is an auditing/review of a company's existent process(es) and an audit of existing reliability status. Based on this, one will reach an understanding of in what way any "down-to-the-floor" simplified reliability-centered activity could be helpful. The final program will include necessary information and methods packages, training activities, expertise for managerial support and guidance during start-up and access to consultancy support where necessary for further implementation. This paper describes the project and its findings and illustrates the tools and methods developed for organizing individual down-to-the-floor reliability work programs by the industry.
