The effectiveness of using portable spirometric techniques on cerebral palsied (CP) individuals to measure lung capacity was investigated. Nondisabled and CP individuals were administered field spirometric tests. There were significant differences between the populations in forced vital capacity (FVC) and one-second forced expiratory volume (FEV/sub 1/) but not between the FEV/FVC ratios. The results suggest that CP individuals could have a restrictive rather than obstructive pulmonary impairment. >
