Abstract

Power Demand Side Management (DSM) has now become the main means of energy conservation and load regulation, whose main income is from the power investment costs which is called avoidable costs. The processes of evaluating the benefits of DSM projects are also the processes of evaluating the avoidable costs of power system. This paper establishes a comprehensive unit avoidable cost model of power system in which the transmission and distribution unit avoidable cost takes the allocation factor into consideration to reflect the different value of the load reduced in different time. This paper also establishes the avoidable costs model of the generation company, the grid corporation and society, and uses the case to analysis the profit of the generation company, the grid corporation and society in different DSM investment projects.

Abstract

The events that a single-line fault evolves into a multi-line fault are increasing recently in China Southern Power Grid. To make matters worse, zero-sequence current is closely related to the load in fault lines particularly when a complex multi-line single-phase grounding fault (SPGF) occurs in a low resistance grounding system. In this case, the load factor must be considered, otherwise it may result in unneglectable calculation errors. Therefore, a comprehensive theory analysis on the relation between zero-sequence current and load was carried out for complex multi-line SPGF firstly. On this basis, the influence mechanism of load variation on zerosequence currents was analyzed in detail, and some general rules were revealed at last. The conclusions summarized in this paper can provide a theoretical basis for improving the performance of zero-sequence current protection.

Abstract

The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control scheme regulates the inverter as a synchronous generator (SG). As the SG plays an important role in the conventional grid by supporting system stability, the VSG can act the same role in a micro-grid. Additionally, the VSG can be more flexible on the parameters setting, such as the virtual inertia. Enlightened by this, a fuzzy controller is proposed with regulating the virtual inertia to enhance the dynamic response of the VSG. At last, the idea is verified by simulations.

Abstract

CCHP (combined cooling, heating and power) systems have good performance as black-start units. It is the most important black-start unit in areas which do not have hydro power units. In this paper, the CCHP system is designed and planned under extra consideration of it serving as a black-start unit. It puts forward an optimized planning (allocation) model for CCHP systems with the consideration of CCHP systems being black-start units. Based on the regional black-start units, black-start schemes and load conditions, the reliability of black-start, outage cost and investment on construction are calculated. Aiming to minimize outage cost and investment on construction, setting simulation results as constraints, building the optimized model and finally applying the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method to attain the best solution. The analysis of example case indicates that the optimized planning proposed here is effective. It gives important reference for the design and planning of CCHP system.

27. Optimized design of damped proportional-resonant controllers for grid-connected inverters through genetic algorithm

Abstract

This paper describes the design principles of damped proportional-resonant (PR) controllers used for the grid-connected inverters. Previous works focused on the frequency domain analysis to select parameters, which can't reflect the time domain performance directly. This paper presents a mathematical model of grid-connected inverter connected with a LC filter and isolation transformer in the stationary reference frame, whose order is reduced by weighted current feedback. Based on the reduced-order model, the principles for designing damped PR controllers in the frequency domain are presented in details. The optimized design of damped PR controller through genetic algorithm using the cumulative amount of current tracking error as indicator of the time-domain performance is proposed. Compared with traditional system, the system with the optimized damped PR controller achieves not only better stability in the frequency domain, but also more excellent performances of current tracking and lower total harmonic distortion in the time domain. Simulation results are presented to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract

According to the energy policy, which encourages local consumption of photovoltaic (PV) energy, the energy sharing among neighboring PV prosumers is proved to be a more effective way compared with independent operations of each prosumer. In this paper, an energy storage (ES)-equipped energy-sharing provider (ESP) is proposed to facilitate the energy sharing of multiple PV prosumers. With the help of the ESP, the autonomous PV prosumers can be formed as an energy-sharing network, and the energy-sharing activities can be categorized as direct sharing and buffered sharing. First, with the assistance of the ES, a day-ahead scheduling model of the ESP is built to increase the operation profit and improve the net power profile of the energy-sharing network, which considers the uncertainty of PV energy, electricity prices, and prosumers’ load via stochastic programming. Moreover, to further increase the energy sharing, a real-time demand response model based on a Stackelberg game is presented to coordinate the energy consumption behavior of prosumers by using internal prices. Abstract

According to the feed-in tariff for encouraging local consumption of photovoltaic (PV) energy, the energy sharing among neighboring PV prosumers in the microgrid could be more economical than the independent operation of prosumers. For microgrids of peer-to-peer PV prosumers, an energy-sharing model with price-based demand response is proposed. First, a dynamical internal pricing model is formulated for the operation of energy-sharing zone, which is defined based on the supply and demand ratio (SDR) of shared PV energy. Moreover, considering the energy consumption flexibility of prosumers, an equivalent cost model is designed in terms of economic cost and users’ willingness. As the internal prices are coupled with SDR in the microgrid, the algorithm and implementation method for solving the model is designed on a distributed iterative way. Abstract

An isolated micro-grid system of wind-solar-diesel-battery hybrid power generation is suitable for remote areas and islands. Possessing qualities generally attributed to the isolated micro-grid are inadequate anti-disturbance ability and weak stability. Power system stability analysis is needed for providing some suggestions and advices to planning and design. This paper analyses system stability of an island isolated micro-grid at different operation modes. Based on the results, reasonable operation modes and system reserve demand are proposed for long-term, efficient, and stable operation of the isolated micro-grid. Sensitivity analysis has made to find critical factors which mostly affecting system ability, such as transformer selection, low voltage ride-through capability and so on.

Abstract

Commercial building microgrids will play an important role in the smart energy city. Stochastic and uncoordinated electric vehicle (EV) charging activities, which may cause performance degradations and overloads, have put great stress on the distribution system. In order to improve the self-consumption of PV energy and reduce the impact on the power grid, a heuristic operation strategy for commercial building microgrids is proposed. The strategy is composed of three parts: the model of EV feasible charging region, the mechanism of dynamical event triggering, and the algorithm of real-time power allocation for EVs. Furthermore, in order to lower the cost of computation resource, the strategy is designed to operate without forecasting on photovoltaic output or EV charging demand. A comprehensive result obtained from simulation tests has shown that the proposed strategy has both satisfactory results and high efficiency, which can be utilized in embedded systems for real-time allocation of EV charging rate. This paper proposes a comprehensive solution methodology for the pricing difficulty when Lagrange multipliers are not unique. A linear optimization model is proposed to solve the congestion-related pricing difficulty. The objective function of the model is set to be minimizing the congestion surplus. In addition, an incentive-based allocation approach is incorporated in the solution procedure for cases when no marginal participant exists. The unique pricing solution obtained through our methodology can achieve proper reallocation of the undetermined surplus. Further, we discuss the reference bus independence property of the proposed pricing methodology. Numerical results are provided to fully test the proposed methodology.
