Recent advancement in technology has brought about increase in the application areas of wearable electroencephalographic devices. In that, new types of electrodes take place, and particular attention is needed to ensure the required quality of obtained signals. In this study, we evaluate electrode-skin impedance and signal quality for several kinds of electrodes when used in conditions typical for wearable devices. Results suggest that active dry electrode coated with gold alloy is superior while it was challenging to obtain appropriate signal quality when using passive dry electrodes. We also demonstrate electrode-skin impedance measurement using the analog frontend ADS1299, which is suitable for implementation in wearable devices.

In this work, we report an easily visualized liquid crystal (LC)-based structure to study the biological molecules interactions between Bovine serum albumin (BSA) and BSA antibody. The antibody concentration can be detected from 1ug to 10ng based on the proposed LC-based biosensor.

In TD-LTE-A systems, feedback information of uplink channel is of importance for eNodeB to perform downlink scheduling, beamforming, and adaptive Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS). Channel quality indicator (CQI) is the most important parameter in all feedback information, and therefore, how to improve the accuracy of CQI feedback is a key issue for system configuration. In this paper, we propose a frequency domain CQI feedback algorithm, using channel capacity invariability criterion and channel reciprocity. Simulations show that periodic feedback with frequency domain CQI feedback algorithm can reduce system first retransmission ratio by about 4% and improve system throughput by about 7%, compared with normal periodic feedback Mode 1-1. In addition, compared with aperiodic feedback Mode 3-1, the proposed CQI feedback algorithm costs less signaling overhead, while keeping similar performance in terms of system first retransmission ratio.

This paper study the effect of health shocks on Chinese urban household assets portfolio behavior by PROBIT and TOBIT model, using newly data from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). In particular, we investigate the influence of health shocks on a household's prabability of various assets and on the share of total assets held in each asset class. The results show that health shocks have a significant effect on urban households assets portfolio. We find that households increase their ownership of financial assets. Chronic health shocks may also cause urban households to increase the holding of financial assets to deal with health risks, while acute shocks may cause households to reduce holdings of other physical assets and risky assets.

We present a surface plasmon resonance real-time detection method to monitor the deoxidized process of graphene oxide converted to reduced graphene oxide by electrochemistry. This may pave the way to new development in rGO-based application, like biosensor, gas sensor and photoelectric devices.

This paper is intended to demonstrate that graphene oxide (GO) on Au films based surface plasmon resonance technique for protein kinetic analysis. The results show that the detection limits of GO sheets were dramatically improved.

In this paper, we report the enhanced performance of Graphene-Nafion-GOD based enzymatic biosensors to detection glucose used fast, simple, and easy to control fabrication method. These materials are prepared by mixing graphene, a Nafion perfluorinated resin, and glucose oxidase (GOD) in appropriate amounts. The graphene has a diameter of 8 μm. As a result, the sensitivity of lower GOD concentration is two times the higher concentration. It can be seen that the sensitivity was enhanced by graphene. The sensor was characterized electrochemically using cyclic voltammetry and amperometry in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and glucose.

Soil erosion prediction information system is a powerful tool to analyze and process the information of soil erosion and quantitatively forecast erosion. The logical structure and function of Daqinghe Basin soil erosion prediction information system were discussed by comprehensive analysis of system requirements based on a variety of spatial scales in Daqinghe Basin, which will lay the foundation for the eventual realization of the system.

Au/Si-NPA composite materials were fabricated by immersion plating method based on a substrate-silicon nanoporous pillar array(Si-NPA). Its surface morphology and optical absorption property were investigated. The optical absorption curves of the samples indicated that compared to pure Au nanoparticles, Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) peak of Au nanoparticles in the samples appeared a large blue-shift. And due to the limitations of the absorption of Au nanoparticles and the changes of Au/Si-NPA internal structure, samples' optical absorption properties were reduced in the wavelength range of 800nm~1000nm and 1500~2000nm.

Wavelet analysis is a multi-resolution method based on Fourier analysis. It has good localization characteristics both in time domain and frequency domain. This paper proposes a medical image fusion algorithm based on regional variance and multi-wavelet bases. The algorithm can fuse CT and MRI medical images. First, the two modalities of images are fused based on different wavelet bases. The low-frequency coefficients follow the fusion rule based on regional variance, and the high-frequency coefficients follow the fusion rule of taking the largest absolute value. Then some primary fused images can be obtained. The final fused images will be got after the processing of weighted average for the primary images. The simulate result shows that, the fused image based on multi-wavelet bases is better than the fused image based on single-wavelet basis.

This paper presents the integration of the fabrication processes for an implantable multi-analyte biochip system. The implantable biochip system has a microfluidic channel in which an electrochemical biosensor and a dielectrophoresis (DEP) micropump are fabricated by surface micromachining. The enzyme-based biosensor consists of three electrodes and detects the glucose level instantaneously by utilizing glucose oxidase (GOD). The DEP force resulting from the four-phase voltage exchange of the interdigitated electrodes drives the blood flow in the microchannel. By utilizing the MEMS fabrication and the electric circuit design, a compact implantable biochip system is achieved.

Bio-plasmonics is proposed for the research and development of novel devices, which use biomolecules as a part of the plasmon oscillation system to actively interact with nano/micro structure. We have reported a novel design of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) device and system, which uses alternative dielectric layers to enhance the SPR signal quality and modulate its resonant position. The use of biomolecular thin film, such as DNAs or proteins, in this design can result in resonant condition of wavelength changes and thus can be detected by using nano-grating in the scattering mode with enhanced feature due to resonance. According to our calculation, it can provide ultra sensitivity system (dLx/dn) of 108 for biosensor applications. The fundamental SPR principle and extended application of these fundamental principles and novel devices, including screening and diagnosis, will be discussed SPR-system to control is the ability. SPR-system has the ability to detect, in near real-time, the concentration of a target analyte and biosensing is viewed as a key application domain for this new technology.

In this study, the design of a novel optical sensor that comprises surface plasmon resonance sensing chip and zinc oxide nano-film was proposed for the detection of nitric oxide gas. The electrical and optical properties of zinc oxide film vary in the presence of nitric oxide. This effect was utilized to prepare biochemical sensors with transduction based on surface plasmon resonance. Due to the refractive index of the transparent zinc oxide film that was deposited on the gold film, however, changes will be observed in the surface plasmon resonance spectra. For this reason, the thickness of zinc oxide film will be investigated and determined in this study. The interaction of nitric oxide with a 20 nm zinc oxide layer on gold leads to the shift of the resonance angle. The analysis on the reflectance intensity of light demonstrates that such effect is caused by the variation of conductivity and permittivity of zinc oxide film. Finally, a shift in surface plasmon resonance angle was measured in 25 ppm nitric oxide at 180 C and a calibration curve of nitride oxide concentration versus response intensity was successfully obtained in the range of 250 to 1000 ppm nitric oxide at lower temperature of 150 C. Moreover, these effects are quasi-reversible.

We demonstrate the photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of a two-layer organic emitter on the corrugated structure of nano-meter scale. A strong emission was observed on certain viewing angles which come from the surface plasma resonance. Different organic materials provide a broadband radiation which improves the PL intensity.

In this paper, organic light-emitting devices with non-planar and periodic structures, fabricated by e-beam lithography, were demonstrated which exhibits improved extraction efficiency by coupling out the plasmonic mode. Their optical characteristics were presented and analyzed.

In the paper, we report a novel biomolecular finger printing method with an active Dual-band Micro-CoPlanar Inverted F Antenna Biosensor (DMCPIFA-Bio) on printed circuit board. The purpose of this research is to use the frequency band of microwave to characterize the responses of different biomolecules and concentrations. We used a dual-band antenna of 3 and 7 GHz frequency band as the active source and the spectral responses of probed molecules can be used for finger printing purpose. The preliminary result shows the relationship between conditions of biomolecules and the parameter of impedance, dB(S(1, 1)) and phase. From analysis result, we found that the change of the concentration and total impedance value have better linear relationship. In additions, there are other parameters like initial analysis dB(S(l, 1)) and change of frequency which may have high correlation to biomolecular weight size.

This paper presents an implantable integrated FM transmitter using 0.35 /spl mu/m SiGe process for biotelemetry. The architecture of FM transmitter is based on the Colpitts oscillator, which is followed by a buffer amplifier to isolate the influence of output on the resonant frequency of the oscillator. The chip area of the fabricated FM transmitter is only 0.26 mm/sup 2/. Even without an intentional antenna, the experimental results show that electrocardiograms (ECGs) of a rat using the FM transmitter can be successfully transmitted to a personal computer, where the heart rate variability (HRV) is analyzed.

We report a multi parameters cardio-pulmonary (CP) monitoring system with features of low power consumptions (30mA,3.3V), miniaturization (size 25 cmsup2/sup), and wireless data communications (Frequency 96 MHz) for wearable applications in e-Health. Its target application is forthe evaluation of fitness of CP during exercises. We use aminiature bi-directional hot-wire sensor for respiratory function,an optical sensor for saturated blood oxygen level or plethsymograph, and two surface electrodes for single lead electrocardiograph. The fitness indexes include blood oxygen level, ECG, and respiratory functions, which will be used for the quantitative evaluation of the level of physical activity.
