Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of a current controlled Rotor Flux Oriented PMSM for automotive steer-by-wire applications. The development of a realistic torque feedback reference is carried out by actual monitoring of a commercial vehicle. The paper shall discuss the torque dynamics of the PMSM drive with respect to position demands replicating a driver at the handwheel. Abstract

This paper shall present the design, simulation and implementation of a sensorless observer for three-phase permanent magnet synchronous machines which can be used for automotive steer-by-wire applications. It shall be shown that the observer has sufficient bandwidth to track steering transients enabling the sensorless speed/position estimates to be used for backup in case of encoder failure. The sensorless method is based on a high frequency injection approach which estimates speed/position from machine saliencies. Abstract

This article presents the sensorless low/zero speed estimation and control for permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) using the innovative search-based real-time commissioning method. An overview of continuous pulsating high frequency injection used in this article is given for different injection angles in the stationary frame of reference. The variations of the saliency at different injection angles and loading operating points of the machine are presented and analyzed. The commissioning, search, and offset of the proposed observer are also discussed. Experimental results showing the performance of the sensorless method are presented in both open-loop and sensorless closed-loop current control. In sensorless mode the PMSM drive is controlled through a rotor flux oriented algorithm which uses the estimated electrical rotor position instead of the encoder measurement. Results for both the estimated mechanical and electrical rotor positions are presented under varying load conditions and speed reversal through the zero-speed region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This work as supported by the Strategic Educational Pathways Scholarship (STEPS) programme Malta., This paper presents the study of a sensorless speed controlled Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) using a Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS). Various Stator Flux Voltage Models found in literature were implemented on a DFIM driven by a rotor side matrix converter. Simulation results for the sensorless closed loop control are presented in the range of operation of a typical wind turbine and rotor angle/speed estimates are presented for each of the Voltage Models., non peer-reviewed
