Abstract

Compact modeling of charge trapping processes in GaN transistors is of fundamental importance for advanced circuit design. The goal of this article is to propose a methodology for modeling the dynamic characteristics of GaN power HEMTs in the realistic case where trapping/detrapping kinetics are described by stretched exponentials, contrary to ideal pure exponentials, thus significantly improving the state of the art. The analysis is based on: 1) an accurate methodology for describing stretched-exponential transients and extracting the related parameters and 2) a novel compact modeling approach, where the stretched exponential behavior is reproduced via multiple RC networks, whose parameters are specifically tuned based on the results of 1). The developed compact model is then used to simulate the transient performance of the HEMT devices as a function of duty cycle and frequency, thus providing insight on the impact of traps during the realistic switching operation. Abstract

This paper focuses on transactive energy management in local energy communities and proposes a coalitional game model which considers the presence and utilization of flexible loads and the power output uncertainties from renewable energy sources. The superadditivity and balancedness of the proposed game model are proved rigorously by demonstrating that a nucleolus-based solution leads to a stable and fair payoff distribution scheme for all players. More specifically, the objective function is proved concave with its analytical expression, derived through an approximated piecewise linear function. The proposed allocation of realized payoffs is then proved to converge consistently to a nucleolus-based solution. It is demonstrated by numerical simulations that the grand coalition effectively increases the global payoff and the proposed allocation scheme contributes to peak shaving and valley filling in the overall load profile.

Abstract

The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2019 is the seventh annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of 81 trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences or in journals in the recent years. The evaluation included the standard VOT and other popular methodologies for short-term tracking analysis as well as the standard VOT methodology for long-term tracking analysis. The VOT2019 challenge was composed of five challenges focusing on different tracking domains: (i) VOT-ST2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB, (ii) VOT-RT2019 challenge focused on "real-time" short-term tracking in RGB, (iii) VOT-LT2019 focused on long-term tracking namely coping with target disappearance and reappearance. Two new challenges have been introduced: (iv) VOT-RGBT2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB and thermal imagery and (v) VOT-RGBD2019 challenge focused on long-term tracking in RGB and depth imagery. The VOT-ST2019, VOT-RT2019 and VOT-LT2019 datasets were refreshed while new datasets were introduced for VOT-RGBT2019 and VOT-RGBD2019. The VOT toolkit has been updated to support both standard short-term, long-term tracking and tracking with multi-channel imagery. Performance of the tested trackers typically by far exceeds standard baselines. The source code for most of the trackers is publicly available from the VOT page. The dataset, the evaluation kit and the results are publicly available at the challenge website(1). Abstract

Crowd behaviour monitoring and prediction is an important research topic in video surveillance that has gained increasing attention. In this paper, we propose a novel architecture for crowd event detection, which comprises methods for object detection, clustering of various groups of objects, characterizing the movement patterns of the various groups of objects, detecting group events, and finding the change point of group events. In our proposed framework, we use clusters to represent the groups of objects/people present in the scene. We then extract the movement patterns of the various groups of objects over the video sequence to detect movement patterns. We define several crowd events and propose a methodology to detect the change point of the group events over time. We evaluated our scheme using six video sequences from benchmark datasets, which include events such as walking, running, global merging, local merging, global splitting and local splitting. We compared our scheme with state of the art methods and showed the superiority of our method in accurately detecting the crowd behavioral changes.

Abstract

A neutral zone is a section of a railway line without traction current during high-speed train operations and is very common in high-speed railway lines. However, previous studies on energy-efficient speed profile (ESP) optimization did not consider the electric neutral section constraints. Thus, a risk of being unable to drive out of the neutral section because of a low initial speed and a deviation in the energy consumption effect occur. This paper studies the characteristics of the neutral section to optimize the operating curves of high-speed trains. It can aid in trains passing through the neutral section smoothly. The proposed method is feasible and close to reality. By analyzing the actual coasting distance of a train in the neutral section and building its mathematical model, we provide special double-speed limits and stability constraints. Subsequently, by simulating vehicle performance, operating conditions, and the location of the neutral section, a train ESP optimization model is constructed. Moreover, an improved dynamic programming algorithm is proposed, which uses the vehicle maximum traction and braking force to simplify the computation of state transitions. Finally, the numerical results of simulations demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed model and solution methodology. Compared with the solution without neutral section constraints, an energy-efficient effect of 1.43% is achieved. Further, the proposed method performs better with a stability and high-quality solution than the genetic algorithm.

Abstract

Development of tungsten brazing technology for the upgraded Korea superconducting tokamak advanced research divertor was launched in early 2013. ITER grade tungsten block was brazed on the CuCrZr alloy in vacuum at 980 °C for 30 min using silver free brazing alloy. An OFHC-copper was used as an interlayer between tungsten and the CuCuZr. The brazing alloy is a 0.05 mm thickness of plate of which component is a Ni–Cu–Mn. It is found that the optimal loading on mock-up is about 20 kPa. Ultrasonic test and shear strength test were carried out to check the strength between tungsten and substrate material. And the joint conditions were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. Tungsten-brazed mock-ups with a cooling tube were tested at the electron beam facility, Korea heat load test facility-electron beam in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The high heat flux test was performed for tungsten-brazed mock-ups under heat flux of about 5 MW/ \textm^2 with more than 2000 cycles. All the tungsten-brazed mock-ups met the requirements and there was no delamination or failure at the bonding joints. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Abstract

We propose a low-complexity and high-precision symbol synchronization algorithm based on dual-threshold amplitude decision for field programmable gate array-based real-time intensity modulation direct detection orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-passive optical network (OFDM-PON) system. In addition, a new criterion to judge symbol synchronization accuracy is proposed first based on bipolar non-return-to-zero codes in time domain. Experimental results show that 95% synchronization precision rate can be achieved after 25 km standard single-mode fiber transmission with the received optical power as low as -21 dBm. Compared with the previously proposed one threshold symbol synchronization algorithm, the synchronization performance has been greatly improved, which brings a maximum signal bit rate gain of 35% when the received optical power is lower than -16 dBm. Furthermore, it is verified that the proposed algorithm is robust. It has wide transmission range which is applicable for OFDM-PON optical access networks within 100 km and has good sampling frequency offset (SFO) tolerance, which can cover the SFO up to 500 ppm without any discard on synchronization precision rate. Finally, complexity analysis shows that our algorithm has the lowest computational complexity and hardware resource consumption, which account for only 0.9% of system resources without any multipliers.

Abstract

Since the recent advent of serious problems in the plasma fabrication processes (bowing, faceting, notching, and twisting) is related to the polymer control issue. The polymer control on the wafer surface by controlling the radical composition in the plasma has become a major mission in the fabrication industry. This polymer control has been successfully performed in the capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) source. The CCP source can be operated in the small volume condition (narrow gap) without the loss of good uniformity of plasma. Unlike the CCP source, the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) source needs large enough space to make a uniform plasma via the plasma diffusion process. The polyer control in the ICP source has been very difficult for an increased residence time of radicals due to large space. To reduce this problem, we propose a new ICP antenna named quadrupole antenna. It can make a uniform plasma in a narrow gap, compared with the conventional ICP antenna. A comparative electromagnetic simulation study between the quadrupole and the conventional ICP antennas shows that the quadrupole antenna makes better symmetric and uniform RF fields close to the antenna compared with the conventional antenna. In this paper, we propose a novel bandwidth-flexible reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) architecture based on coherent optical-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) technology. The bandwidth-flexible ROADM architecture enables sub-wavelength, superwavelength, and multiple-rate data traffic accommodation in a highly spectrum-efficient manner, thereby providing a fractional bandwidth service. We simulate and compare the blocking performance of bandwidth-flexible ROADM with and without wavelength converters. It is found that wavelength converter could obviously improve the blocking performance of bandwidth-flexible ROADM with different frequency grid. Moreover, the conversion ratios are calculated for different load and channel spacing. Based on the analysis of conversion ratio, we could make an appropriate configuration of wavelength converters in bandwidth-flexible ROADM. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
