Abstract: We study short-term variations and long-term stability of the channel matrix for a few-mode fiber re-circulating loop using a few-mode EDFA for inline amplification. Our results are based on the singular values of the channel matrix and the system performance per mode.

Abstract: Flexible channel spacing for high spectral efficiency is investigated using a real-time 100GbE transponder. 40% better spectral efficiency than current 100G systems can be achieved with a 2,200-km transmission distance by reducing the channel spacing.

Abstract: We demonstrate polarization mode dispersion mode (PMD) compensation over 452 km of installed single mode optical fiber with high mean PMD by using the principal state transmission method. Stable long-term operation with good compensated system performance was confirmed.
