Abstract

Accurate acquisition of the complex refractive index of materials is of great significance to understand their physical properties. Based on a single time-domain transmission model in $Y$ -band, here, we develop a free-space nondestructive testing method combined with parameter extraction of flat plate materials. This method overcomes the limitation of the narrow frequency band of S-parameters of vector network analyzer (VNA), truncates multiple echo interferences in time-domain signals inside sample after the inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT), and eliminates the crimping effect of the calculation results. In order to ensure the good signal integrity of the model, an empirical formula is proposed to calculate the minimum thickness of the sample corresponding to unit bandwidth. An $8f$ quasi-optical system is designed and optimized to provide a measuring condition of terahertz (THz) plane wave with high energy density. Compared with the values calculated by the conventional methods, the refractive index deviation is less than 0.004 (0.2%), which verifies the effectiveness and applicability of our proposed method. The adaptability of different processes to the corresponding physical transmission model is further analyzed, and the reasons for the calculation deviation are explained. Abstract

we adopt the microfluidic chip technique to detect liquid samples through THz- TDS system. The microfluidic chip has a sandwich structure which comprises cover, substrate and microchannel layer. The materials of cover and substrate is cycloolefin copolymers (zeonor 1420R), which has a very high transmittance for THz wave, and the microchannel layer is polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Through van der Waals force, the cover, substrate and microchannel layer are sealed together. The cover and substrate have the same thickness, that is, 1.5mm, and the length, width and depth of the microchannel are 30mm, 80um and 50um, respectively. The size of detection area of THz wave in the microchannel is 3.5mm in diameter. Using the microfluidic chip to detect the glycerol with a concentration of 98%, and the experimental results prove the feasibility of this method.

20. Multi-Objective Learning Approach to Proactive Caching in Wireless Networks.

Abstract

Previous works on learning-based caching problems often only concern prefetching popular contents during off-peak traffic hours and service them to the edge at peak periods. In this letter, we investigate the cache strategy design problem with two possibly conflicting objectives in wireless networks when consumer preferences are unknown. We focus on caching for paid contents and model this decision making problem in a combinatorial multi-objective multi-armed bandit (CMO-MAB) perspective, by taking both the aggregated offloading traffic in dominant objective and the cumulative profit in non-dominant objective into account. Then, we propose the combinatorial scalarizated multi-objective upper confidence bound (CSMO-UCB) and the combinatorial Pareto multi-objective upper confidence bound (CPMO-UCB) algorithms, respectively, to jointly optimize total reward vectors in both objectives. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms outperform their competitors, which are not specifically designed to address the caching problems involving dominant and non-dominant objectives.
