Abstract

Conventional in-circuit impedance measurement setup of the inductive coupling approach requires two inductive probes. This article proposes a single-probe setup for the in-circuit impedance measurement, which not only eliminates the probe-to-probe coupling issue but also simplifies the setup with less instrument overhead. The basic principle behind the proposed setup will be elaborated, followed by experimental validation. To ensure the proposed setup can extract the in-circuit impedance with good accuracy, the required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the setup is carefully studied. In addition, to improve the SNR and the ruggedness of the setup, signal amplification and protection devices are incorporated in the measurement. Finally, the proposed setup is deployed to demonstrate its ability to extract the in-circuit impedance of an energized induction motor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

By monitoring the online common-mode (CM) impedance of an inverter-fed induction motor (IM) through an inductive coupling technique at a specific frequency of interest (FOI), the stator interturn short-circuit (ITSC) faults of the IM can be detected with good confidence. The inductive coupling technique is adopted because it monitors the CM impedance of the IM without a physical electrical connection, which eliminates electrical safety hazards and facilitates ease of implementation. Using a 1/2-hp squirrel-cage IM as a test case, it has been demonstrated that the proposed method is sensitive to the stator ITSC faults but invariant to motor load and speed variations, as well as bearing and rotor faults, making it highly reliable and robust for stator ITSC fault detection. 38. MRC-Based Double Figure-of-Eight Coil Sensor System With Triple-Mode Operation Capability for Biomedical Applications.

Abstract

Efficient wireless power transmission to a designated location can reduce the size of implantable device and save source energy, but the receiver coil and rectifier circuit still occupy a large area. This paper proposes a novel magnetic resonant coupling (MRC)-based double figure-of-eight coil sensor system to induce and monitor heat. Implantable devices could obtain energy from the surrounding electric field or heating effect. The fundamental of generating the heating effect by the proposed coil-based sensor system is derived, and conceptual system architecture is built. Then the radiating coil is analyzed in terms of Litz-wire coil optimization, lumped parameter extraction, impedance-matching network, equivalent circuit model, and coupling coefficient. Considering the current ratio, operating frequency, and designated location, the triple-mode operation mechanism is analyzed for the first time to adjust superposed electromagnetic fields at the designated location. At the odd-mode resonance, the electric field intensity in the middle between two figure-of-eight coils is significantly improved. Finally, the physical prototype of proposed coil-based sensor system is built up and experiments are conducted to test the currents in both figure-of-eight coils as well as the induced voltage and temperature change in the in-vitro sample by using the electrode sensor and thermocouple sensor. Measurements validate the feasibility of the proposed coil-sensor system. It also provides essential guidance on designing sensors for deep-tissue stimulation and hyperthermia treatment. Abstract

In this article, five different cell placement structures of a vertical inverter chain were designed in a commercial bulk FinFET technology to investigate the effect of cell placement on a single-event transient (SET) pulse. 3-D TCAD mixed-mode simulation indicated that the cell placement has a significant effect on SET pulsewidths. Heavy-ion experiments at Cyclotron in the China Institute of Modern Physics in Lanzhou also indicated that the effect of cell placement on the SET pulse is obvious. The experiment also indicated that the effect of cell placement on P-hit SET is larger than that on N-hit SET, and charge sharing in vertical was becoming as important as that in horizontal.
