Student engagement is an important indicator to measure the effect of college students’ learning, and it is also the main reason to affect their academic performance. The paper proposes a model to evaluate student engagement in the programming course based on blend learning environment. The model includes three aspects: cognitive engagement, behavioral engagement and social engagement. By integrating online learning behavior into three aspects, student engagement is measured, and the relationship between engagement and achievement is analyzed. The strategies to improve the participation in blending learning are put forward. The student engagement model is not only helpful for teachers to adopt relevant teaching strategies to improve student participation in learning, but also to encourage students to actively participate in learning. The results provides some suggestions on facilitating student engagement in online learning environment in high education.

Plagiarism detection is a serious problem in higher education. Teachers use similarity (plagiarism) detection systems, which highlight similarities between student documents, to help them find plagiarism. Most systems are built for text but there are special systems to find similarities between source-code files. In most cases the results are presented in table form showing similarities between pairs of documents in descending order by similarity, and then a teacher is responsible for confirming which similar documents represent cases of plagiarism. While most systems present their results in the form of tables, only few of them present the results as a graph. Some studies indicate that using clustering algorithms to represent such data graphically can improve the speed and accuracy of finding potential instances of plagiarism in large collections of source-code files. The purpose of the study is to answer the following research questions. Can visualization of student solutions (of source-code similarities) in collaboration networks form help identify new cases of plagiarism? What are the steps to do so? The study was designed in a form of two case studies where one was performed on a graduate level university course and one on a course in professional studies. The article presents empirical results describing two cases where a collaboration network (based on source-code similarity) representation has been used. The article argues that the graphical presentation is able to identify new clusters of plagiarised source code files that would have been missed using existing tabular presentation of data.

The laboratory is an important platform and practice place for colleges and universities to carry out teaching and research activities. From the characteristics of laboratory construction in high-education institutions and the fuzzy hierarchy analysis method, this paper takes high-education institutions as the research object, and establishes an efficient laboratory construction effectiveness evaluation system and model based on basic conditions, practicality, progressiveness, construction results. Furthermore, the construction effectiveness of quantum communication technology laboratory is evaluated by using of this presented method. The evaluation result $\tilde{P}(A)$=[0.53 0.23 0.20 0.04 0.01] is “excellent 53%, good 23%, medium 20%, qualified 4%, unqualified 1% The results show that the method proposed in this paper is reasonable and feasible.

This paper describes a design of faculty management system based on cloud computing technology. A unique model is developed to enable performing radar chart analysis on evaluating faculty performance from the aspect of teaching, research, administration and university operation. These data are stored in a database at the cloud platform in where further analysis and tracing back can be performed to explore deeper potential of faculties. With such system, university leader board can make a proper strategic plan of faculty management in time to get acceleration on development. Meanwhile, individual faculties can be guided to be promoted following a professional pathway.

This article addresses the perceptions of university students about the Portuguese National Health Service (NHS) on Instagram (IG), which is the main profile of the country’s government on the platform. Young people are the largest audience of this social media (SM), which has been considered as a tool to promote public health. Therefore, this study aims at identifying how young adults perceive the content available in @sns_pt regarding health and well-being topics. The qualitative methodology was used, and a survey was carried out with undergraduate students from the University of Aveiro. It was applied digitally in June 2020, 90 days after the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the new coronavirus pandemic. The survey presents 15 questions, divided into three axes: consumption of SM, use of IG, and posts evaluation. A total of 39 valid questionnaires were obtained. The sample is made up of students between the ages of 19 and 45 years old, being 61.5% female and 38.4% male. The results obtained show that @sns_pt is known by 43.5% of the respondents and 12.8% follow the account. Also, 10.2% reported having accessed the profile for the first time after the pandemic started.The posts focused on images attracted the attention of students, as well as the contents regarding the users' routines. published

A proposal for the design of a distance learning activity on the pedagogical use of YouTube is described. For the training of 27 teachers from Mid High Education of the University of Guadalajara in collaboration with the Virtual University of Guadalajara, to deliver the course we used the Google Classroom platform and the social network Facebook. The course aims to train teachers to understand and make use of technological tools that enable distance education. The proposal describes and highlights the potential of video and pedagogical use of youtube in times of the COVID-19 pandemic as a means to strengthen distance learning. For the data analysis, the videos and final reflections of each participant were reviewed, to recognize, guidelines that emerge from the data that generate sense looking for themes that could give a clue to organize the data. The recurrent and the particular constituted elements of inquiry. When the teachers were developing the videos, they modeled the contents, taught and selected the most appropriate codes for their recipients to communicate the concepts, processes, and this somehow conditions the Learning of students. Recognizing the role of the audiovisual broadcaster has implications by recognizing them as a mediator because it is a teacher who has to appropriate the content and is in the process of appropriating the technological tools are used to communicate such content, but also, is appropriating a model of communicating the educational through audiovisual media.

Outcome Based Assessment (OBA) is one of the recent educational phenomenon that is being increased use especially in high education. This approach applied to improve the learning, increase student mobility and achieve lifelong learning either in traditional learning or in e-learning systems. This study will describe the effectiveness and efficiency of the various outcome based assessment models and will conduct a detailed and comparative analysis of them from different criteria to identify the strengths and limitations of every model. Different factors and criteria will be discussed to evaluate and compare between existing models.

In guaranteeing the quality of a tertiary institution, the government has promoted a regulation governing tertiary quality assurance that regulates the minimum standards that must be possessed by every tertiary institution. The Internal Quality Assurance System or known by the term SPMI has been understood by the Chancellor, Deputy Chancellor, Dean and Chair of the Study Program but for the ordinary staff and lecturers of SPMI is not very well understood. This is caused by the absence of a discussion forum or a place to share knowledge about the internal quality assurance system to staff and lecturers where one of the tasks is to run operations to support the operation of SPMI. The solution to overcome this is by building a Knowledge Management System which acts as a forum for sharing the knowledge that can be utilized to increase the knowledge of staff and lecturers regarding internal quality assurance at their respective colleges.

At present, a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation are accelerating worldwide. The new economy characterized by new technology, new forms of business and new industry is developing vigorously. This requires engineering scientific and technological talents to have higher innovation and entrepreneurship ability and cross-border integration ability, which poses new challenges to the reform and development of high education. The construction of Emerging New Education is the response to this challenge. Based on this, this paper analyses and studies the objectives, main contents and main measures of teaching reform of Emerging New Education construction of mechanical specialty, and puts forward a training mode of outstanding and innovative talents of mechanical specialty for the construction of Emerging New Education, with a view to providing reference for the construction of Emerging New Education in colleges and universities.

The aim of the research is to prove author’s intention of designing a successful high school freshmen course that can improve students’ generic skills and competences needed to empower them on a journey to become valuable contributors of modern society. Literature review of similar successful courses was used for general course design technique with some learning outcomes modified from information literacy and critical thinking international standards. All main design principles of “Information literacy and Critical thinking” course syllabus is elaborated. Discussion part concerning students’ satisfaction and skills improvement is followed after the analysis of two types of surveys conducted over the first two generations of students. This particular course is very rare, if not unique, as an approach for freshmen generic skills improvement in Croatian High Education society. This elaborated experience is excellent opportunity to provoke wider society discussion in order to establish formal ways to improve employability skills of Croatian students.

High education system and transitional economy faces with both market and innovation challenges. The appropriate responses to these challenges have to be found under conditions when advanced knowledge is no longer created in universities and research institutions only, but is born in a large number distributed small and medium innovation enterprises as well. This encourages the universities and the businesses to search for new institutional forms for innovating education and educating innovation. One of these forms is the establishment of an entrepreneurial university integrated with startup incubator jointly with business. In this case such university by creation based on smart contracts universal digital platform integrated in GVCs (Global Value Chains) actually turns into a modern innovation hub. In turn, such hub is able not only to incubate the startups and develop them into the new innovation enterprises, but to train innovative entrepreneurs as well.

In this paper, we present a case study being developed in the Higher School of Technology and Management of the Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute regarding the adoption of gamification to increase motivation of teachers in achieving better assessments. We justify this need for the non-automatic progression by governmental financial issues and the consequent lack of motivation on the part of teachers to improve their performance. We present the architecture of the system we design, the levels and the game elements used as well as the prototype for an android app that will be the interface of the system towards the teachers.

Increasing complexity of industrial development and production require a well-designed didactic approach in challenging study fields in engineering. Such concepts can be reasonably applied to study programs in Master education due to the necessary prior knowledge in technical disciplines. Conventional teaching of the subject matter is normally related to one teacher and his field of study that often leads to a restricted view on the topic. Therefore, an essential element of our concept is the connection of different aspects of a problem and a close coordination between the involved professors. In this paper, we will report about a combined course in physics, control engineering, programming and practical implementation (lab) to show and teach the students a systematical procedure solving complex tasks. This is a typical demand of the industry, consisting of theory, modelling, simulation, implementation, measurement, data evaluation and verification. Based on a concrete example, the lecture concept is presented and discussed.

Academic integrity violations (as plagiarism, answers sharing, etc) are major challenges for many high education institutions around the world. These challenges had become more urgent after wide adoption of e-learning approach by education community in form of MOOCs or SPOCs. Therefore, the usage of automatic academic integrity violation detection systems is highly advisable in case of courses with large enrollment and large amounts of machine- and peer-graded assignments. In this work, we share our experience how to overcome these challenges in such course — Introduction to Data Science. The brief description of the course and assignments structure will be given, after that we will highlight some features of the assignments for Data Science course that requires a bit more complex approach to plagiarism detection and we will discuss architecture of proposed system for academic integrity violations detection.

Engineering course starts with the basic disciplines: mathematics, physics, programming and chemistry. Many students have difficulties in Engineering due these basics disciplines. From all these disciplines, mathematics is the one that requires most years of preparation before the student enter the university, and Calculus I is usually the biggest barrier to these students. In Brazil, the most important high education system are the public universities, with the federal universities and technological institutes as the main system that covers the entire country with at least one unity in each of the twenty-six states. They are public institutions that provide undergraduate and graduate courses, and are some of most prestigious institutions in the country. In junior and high school, the system that provides education are provided by state and municipality, they offer public schools, but the families that can afford a private school pay these schools to their sons have a better education. To enter the university, the students compete in a national test, where the content of the junior and high school is tested, and the students from private schools have better results in this test. The students with higher results enter the federal institutions of high education. When the students enter an Engineering course, the number of students that fail in Calculus is high, reflecting the lack of preparation during the junior and high school years. This works tries to identify the initial knowledge of Engineering students in an introductory course of Calculus, when they enter the high education, and how much their knowledge improve during this first semester, to identify the impact of high education in these students.

The team that has developed this project is part of a consortium of several European institutions that have joined with a common goal: to help the current engineering teaching-learning system, so that to make possible a competencies-based assessment. Moreover advocacy and networking will be part of the consortium activities during the whole project. RULES_MATH acronym corresponds to ‘New rules for assessing mathematical competencies’, and that is exactly what we propose: to work with the mathematical competencies, specifically try to incorporate them into the assessment process. We focus on science and engineering degrees, since in all these studies several Mathematics courses are part of their curriculum, mainly in the first couple of years. In this paper we present one of our first activities that we want to achieve under the project: the selection of several tools and rules that will make possible an assessment and evaluation according to our high education common European space. These ideas are part of the objectives of promoting and institutionalizing good teaching practices and the enhancement of teaching materials. Other goals are to improve the dissemination of academic activities to the business world, administrations and society in general.

This article analyzes modern strategies and tools which provide the necessary technologies for education in terms of a competent approach to the curriculum of technical specialties. During the analysis, the reviewed strategies were discoveried, namely STEM education, educational communities, Blended Education, aimed on developing of systemic creative thinking, on developing perseverance in achieving the goals of professional and research activities, on developing the ability to work in groups and work independently. The decision on the use of these strategies and instruments in institutions of higher education in combination with the traditional form of training is offered. An approach is offered on the development of training courses in mathematical and natural sciences, taking into account the orientation towards professional disciplines within a particular specialty.

Electrical/Electronic Engineering courses are often regarded as male courses. In this paper it is presented a study conducted in two Portuguese and two Brazilian high education institutions (six courses) where the goal was to analyze if gender affects students' perceptions and satisfaction regarding Electrical/Electronic Engineering courses. The analysis was based on 654 questionnaires rating 44 items (among the six groups: Teacher Involvement Perception, Student Interest, Student-Teacher interaction, Course organization and functioning, Infrastructures, and Overall satisfaction). The investigation was performed by year, from the first to the third year (1st cycle) and considering the six programs. Based on students' perceptions, some items showed differences that were significant, namely the ones regarding how teachers and students interact and how teachers challenge students.

The Four-Component Instructional Design System is essential in blueprints for complex learning. In this work, the case analysis method was adopted to discuss the instructional design, course content arrangement and examination in American high education with focus on analyzing the methods of investigation teaching. Various methods using in the course exams were also discussed. We think that the exams are diversified and restricted in order to instruct students to highlight preview, reading and conscientious completion of assignments. Project practice should be applied to test students' practical application ability. In addition, the course link system of applied universities as well as course quality standards and teaching technologies should be improved from an internationalized education perspective in order to promote reform in the course grading policies in high education and further boost reform in the overall talent training system.

Laboratory is important base for students to do scientific research and practical activity, is the cradle for cultivating innovative talents, and is the heart of the modern university. Opening laboratory is one of the effective ways to cultivate innovative talents, to improve students' practice ability, and to promote the teaching reform and laboratory construction. Reasonable and effective operating mechanism is the important guarantee for opening laboratory operation. Scientific and advanced managing modes and methods are necessary condition to release its effects. This paper mainly discusses the connotation and necessity of opening laboratory, and explore its operation mechanism and management.

With the development of science, technology, society and the requirement of the quality of professional talents, the need for innovative entrepreneurial talent is growing. In order to improve the ability of innovation and entrepreneurship, this paper studies the theoretical and practical experience of college students' innovation and entrepreneurship and analyzes the current situation of college students' innovation and entrepreneurship education in China. According to the practice and experience of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications in recent years, this article introduces the construction of innovation and entrepreneurship education system and related education and teaching methods. At the end of the article, four proposals are put forward for the innovation and entrepreneurship education in domestic universities.

In the present paper shows the theoretical framework of the topic, definition, application, development and obtained results of a classification system of educational resources based on the user profile, which takes into account their learning style (obtained from test Felder) and the skills that the student meets of the middle high education presented at the LACLO 2015. This system is a tool to support the teacher and it will be a tool that can be support for the campus that wanted to enter the Sistema Nacional de Bachillerato (SNB), the tool allows you to find the most appropriate educational resources for students according to their profile and generic skills of the middle high education. The search will be performed in a repository included in the system, which will contain different types of educational resources with their respective metadata. This metadata next to the weight assigned in the classification system will allow the recovery of the best educational resources tailored student profile.

This paper's aim is to investigate the demographic effect onto the research and development sector (R&D). The basis of this question is the serious demographic trend in Hungary, which causes to decrease the number of students in high education. From the 2008 top level, till 2012 there was a dramatic 30% reduction and additional near 35% decrease is probable till 2030. The investigation uses the public data of the Central Statistical Office of Hungary and Educational Office of Hungary. These data contain information on demographic data, scientometrics data and financial data. The main method is correlation mining, clustering and estimation with help of Self Organizing Map (SOM). It was found that the number of publications will decrease about 28%±14.7% in the consequences of demographic changes.

Changes in Polytechnic Education Officer Scheme (PPPS) to Higher Education Officer Scheme (PPPT) in 2008 give impacts on the roles and responsibilities of the polytechnic lecturer. Therefore, it is substantial to identify the health stress amongst polytechnic lecturers, particularly the engineering lecturers due to these additional workloads by using Hazard Identification (HAZID) method with the stress level. This quantitative study is carried out by using random sampling via data collection of questionnaire survey from 145 lecturers at Department of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz. Revised personal stress inventory, Circular Services No 33 for year 2007 and Guideline of High Education Officer Version 3 are used as the references for the conceptual framework development. The findings of this paper show that the levels of health stress amongst the engineering lecturers in Politeknik Sultan Abdul Aziz due to over workload is low. The findings of this paper is expected to provide sufficient information related to health stress amongst engineering polytechnic lecturer.

Living in the world that is rapidly changing and is strongly interconnected with digital technologies puts a lot of pressure on K-12 students' teachers. Although, today's K-12 students are surrounded by technology and computers from the day they are born, they also must learn the basic principles of computer science in order to be adequately equip for their future jobs. However, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (STEM-C) fields are too wide and too complex for only K-12 schools to participate in the teaching process. In this paper we thus present how high education institutions can cooperate with elementary and secondary schools in STEM-C education process of K-12 students. We will share two good practices for allowing K-12 students to learn STEM-C related topics that have been implemented in Puerto Rico and Croatia. The objective of both projects is to establish a pipeline for K-12 students to go to colleges, and from colleges to graduate schools. The paper will present the impact of the program on the pre-college and university community of Puerto Rico, as well as the results of outreach activities conducted in Croatia.

The objective of this work was to study the value-add in the engineer programs, with information of the Institute for the Evaluation of Education Quality (ICFES). With this propose we adjusted multilevel model. The variables included was gender, sociocultural and socioeconomic level, previous performance (score test SABER 11o) and tuition of the university. The results show the previous test score was the significative variable. Finally, we do the reflections about the high education and previous performance in the prediction of the undergraduate results.

Arabic chemical symbols are remarkably different from Latin chemical symbols which written by Arabic characters. On the other hand, Arabic chemical symbols follow Latin chemical symbols from the structure of writing the symbols. Although, Arabic symbols have special way of the writing like writing direction, cursive style, and written by Arabic characters. In fact, these symbols are being used in schools and high education level around many Arabic countries. In this paper an online system for recognizing handwritten Arabic chemical symbols is presented. The paper illustrates each phase of the system in details. The system is dealing with some Arabic chemical symbols as initial study and to be updated with more symbols later.

The concept of sustainable development appeared not long time ago and quickly became very relevant. Society started to think about its future. Unfortunately, in Russia this approach is missing in almost all business areas. However, it is time now to take these ideas into consideration. One of the most important areas to do this in is higher education as people form world outlook and become totally independent during this time. This means that there is a need for promoting and demonstrating sustainable development. However, how to do it if a lot of universities have more relevant problems? Analysis of European experience and its comparison with russian reality can help to understand how to start to act as environmentally efficient university.

The aim of this study is to determine the Standards of applying a virtual learning environment in higher education institutions, through the analysis of the literatures, and the appropriate previous studies. The researcher has identified a list of Standards that should be available to determine whether the higher education institutions have the ability to provide opportunities for the application of virtual learning. Eight criteria have been identified for this purpose with a set of indicators associated with each Standard to govern it. The eight Standards are:(the Quality in the aims VLEs, the Physical elements, software and human resources to VLEs, the tools of VLEs, the design of teaching materials for VLSs, the training and qualifying of University lecturer, the Guidance and tutoring for VL students, the social and cultural relations for VLEs and the physical environment for VLEs).

The involvement of the students determines their study effectiveness, which has influence on the quality of high education in university in turn. In this way, it's necessary to explore the antecedents from the student perspective. Prior research indicates that major commitment influences study engagement significantly. Therefore, we collect the data in eight Chinese business schools to test the above proposition. The empirical results indicate that: (1) affective commitment has positive impact on the three dimensions of study engagement: vigour, dedication and absorption; (2) normative commitment has positive influence on two dimensions of study engagement: dedication and absorption, however, the effects are low; and (3) economic commitment and continuance commitment have no significant effect on study engagement. The findings have important implications for student management in universities.

This paper presents an historical review of the establishment of an academic programme introducing teaching and research on FPGA-based system design in the Mongolian High Education. The main strategy was to found a Microelectronics research group within several departments of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST) and promote the education of microelectronics design not only at the MUST, but also throughout Mongolia. The education process adopted at the Computer Science and Management School (CSMS) of MUST will be presented. Under the Microelectronics group initiative, a set of events (Electronics Olympiad, seminaries and workshops) was set up in collaboration with other Mongolian Universities as an important action for the dissemination of FPGA-based system design. The presence of students and faculty members in international activities had also an important effect. Results of research and teaching practices will also be presented.

Many private universities have a problem on the students' job hunting. When students get a job, they need to take the SPI examination. However, there are no effective support methods of job-hunting examination for low test-scored students. In this paper, we propose an education management support system called as OMES (order made education system) for paper test in job hunting. Our proposed system is used by instructor in the course. Each class contains multiple sets of lecture and exercise. The system searches for an appropriate exercise question for each student based on their knowledge and experiences. When students take an identical exercise question, traditional education methods have a problem like that students lose motivation to continue to learn because the exercise question is not fitted to each learner.

Using the Wavelet Transform (WT), a time frequency representation, we studied responses to auditory stimulation in the ‘alpha’ range (8Hz–13Hz) in the low and high education groups. Auditory evoked responses of total 16 healthy subjects (8 in each group, low and high education groups) were studied with 2 different auditory stimuli (standard and target stimuli). Upon the stimulus types, event-related responses in the 8Hz–13Hz (‘alpha’) range were distributed mainly in the central (Fz, Cz and Pz) locations. The Low education group had significantly high alpha power at Fz and Cz locations comparing the High education group in the case of standard stimuli, where as remarkable increased alpha power was found in the same group in the case of target stimuli at Pz area. We concluded that the distributed origin of event-related alpha oscillations has the relationship with educational experience.

Microelectronics high education in France is organized through a network composed of twelve centers, six of them having clean-rooms and technological facilities. During the year 2010, some activities moved from microelectronics to nanotechnologies in an effort to adapt our training facilities to the new nanoworld.

High education plays a major mission of a large number of creative talents. However, lack of innovation and practice ability are very prominent. The current situation of high education is analyzed, and the existing problems are summarized including educational idea, teaching system and course system. By applying concurrent engineering theory, reconstruction model of education engineering was established. The integration of education and employment process was achieved. On the base of these, the new idea of high education was proposed, and project-driven education mode was established from a theoretical perspective. Finally, some relevant suggestions were made.

In this paper, the hierarchical index system of factors for the teaching quality of high education is established. Firstly, the critical factors influencing teaching quality has been analyzed. Further, the author discusses the current situation of our higher education and points out the negative effect of enrollment expansion and shortage of teachers are the main reason-hat have caused the drop of teaching quality. Finally, in terms of the current situation and problems in higher education of our country, the author puts forward several suggestions to improve the teaching quality of colleges and universities of our country.

E-learning platform for education on River Information Services (RIS) development in Republic of Croatia and Italy is presented in this paper. This platform is a result of one year research activities based on analysis of demand for education in this field. E-learning platform aims to become a system that tracks, launches and provides the interface between the user and learning objects. The uniqueness of this platform is assured by the fact that two neighboring countries, Italy and Croatia are co-operating on the topic of River Information Services for the first time. Italy and Croatia are both countries with long maritime tradition and are naturally inclined to exchange the knowledge and experiences on the sea navigation. In the last 5 years, Croatia has recognized the potential of its inland waterways and started to follow EU recommendations in working towards shifting cargo from roads to rivers. According to this, Inland Navigation Development Centre and Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences started to develop an e-learning platform for education on transport technology followed by graduated study curriculums and transport market experts and specialists demand. E-learning platform is recognized as European added value – improvement of co-operation, sharing of know-how and environmental and social benefits.

The paper calculates the grey incidence degree of the Research and Development investment and Economic Development in some countries on the basis of the grey incidence theory in the main three performance sectors. The results demonstrate that the investment of science and technology talents is more important than R&D expenditure in promoting the development of economy. R&D expenditure gets higher degree of grey incidence in government performance sector than the researchers in China. The researcher input in business enterprise sector should be improved. To be supported by more R&D funds is necessary for the high education sector.

The establishment of higher education tuition will directly decide whether individual families can accept higher education or not as well as whether colleges and universities can run smoothly. Currently the yardstick of higher education tuition fee in China is over unitary. Considering the facts that the setting of high education tuition fee is affected by many factors, the diversified model which determines the yardstick of higher education tuition is often used. In order to test the rationality of diversified models, this paper has established BP nerve network model to randomly group some of the results worked out by diversified model. Then some groups were used as a collection of training samples to train BP nerve network model, while the other groups were treated as a collection of testing samples to have an emulating verification. It finally turns out that the two collections have a strong relation with the error between 0–0.02 which indicates that diversified tuition model is correct and rational

This paper is dedicated to address the new educational technologies (especially the Internet) provide big challenges to high education institutions. In contrast to traditional teaching, Distance Education (DE) is particularly enhanced by technology development. However, in Chinese context, either traditional teaching or DE has its strengths and limitations. This paper focuses on introducing a new model of higher education, which is to combine DE and face-to-face teaching to deliver education services to college students. It takes an international joint program run by Zhejiang University City College (ZUCC) in association with the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) in Australia as a good example to illustrate how this new model works effectively and efficiently.

beta-thalassemia, an anemic genetic disorder, remains a significant global health issue, especially in the era of globalization where healthcare, economics, and education are more tightly interconnected. Although previous studies focused on the medical aspect of beta-thalassemia and the affects of consanguineous marriages, we investigated what affects the socio-economic geography of beta-thalassemia and how it affects the spread rate using self-organizing maps (SOM) and Sammon mapping. We converted data generated from questionnaires into numerical variables to facilitate the subsequent analysis of how certain variables contribute to beta-thalassemia's spread. We expected a strong correlation among variables (current education and financial status, information availability, neighborhood prevention programs, and treatment affordability). Only 28% of the population contained both high education and high income, thus had the highest awareness. We studied the mapped data and identified relevant variables corresponding to factors affecting the spread rate of beta-thalassemia. We concluded that education directly correlates to beta-thalassemia's spread rate. Education created a ripple effect, affecting other variables. The data supports the idea that a more educated population, combined with aggressive prevention and treatment programs should prevent the spread of beta-thalassemia.
