The article discusses a study which examined the factors that influenced the prevalence of ketosis in dairy farms in Tamil Nadu State, India. This study was conducted in five milkshed districts in Tamil Nadu, viz., Coimbatore, Erode, Madurai, Vellore and Villupuram from 2005 to 2008. The study found the increasing prevalence of ketosis with the age of the animals, order of lactation and milk yield in both the species of the animal advanced.

The article presents a study that estimates the economic losses due to lower milk production and reduction in draught power in foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) affected bovines. The study was conducted in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukkottai, in Tamil Nadu, India, where 213 cases of FMD outbreaks were recorded from November 2002 to January 2003. The findings estimated the total economic loss to be rupees 1,113.53 lakhs.

A survey was carried out to study part-worth estimate of attributes of pet dogs from 60 pet dog owners in Corporation of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Multistage random sampling procedure was adopted and relevant data were collected through personal interview with the help of pre-tested interview schedule.The result revealed that the most relevant factor for pet dog owners in Chennai Corporation was the size of the dog with a relative importance of 42.93 per cent, followed by coat type (36.90 per cent) and the purpose of rearing pet dog (20.17 per cent).The Kendal correlation coefcient of 0.786 (p ≤ 0.01) indicated a high level of correlation between the observed and estimated preferences and confirmed the high level of significance of the obtained results. The article discusses a study which examined the availability of green fodder in Tamil Nadu, India. The study found that the total green fodder availability in the state is 328.60 lakh tons. The largest amount of green fodder was produced in Erode district. The green fodder output came from cultivated fodder, sugarcane tops and common property resources (CPR).

The article presents the findings of an estimation analysis of the economic losses incurred due to ketosis in dairy farms in India. The materials and methods are described in detail. Findings showed that 354 cows and 10 buffaloes from the total of 3,774 and 342, respectively, were found to be affected by ketosis, translating to total losses of 1,026.75 Indian rupees for cows and 815.21 Indian rupees for buffaloes.

The study involved a random sample of 4,116 milch bovines in Tamil Nadu, India. Chi-square analysis of factors associated with the prevalence of the disease such as breed, milk yield and order of lactation was performed to determine the epidemiological measures. The study found that relative risk (RR) linked with breed factor was 4.008.

This article presents a study which assessed the prevalence of milk fever in dairy farms of Tamil Nadu, India. The material for the study was a random sample of 4,116 milch bovines which includes 3,774 cows and 342 buffaloes. The animals were assessed for the history of suffering milk fever by interacting with veterinary institutions and confirming with animal owners. The investigation revealed that the overall prevalence of the disease was 13.67 percent in cows and 11.99 percent in buffaloes.
