Two new tribes in the Curculionoidea are described as the Anchineini Poinar and Legalov, n. trib. (Ithyceridae: Carinae) and Paleocryptorhynchini Poinar and Legalov, n. trib. (Curculionidae: Erirhininae). The genus Anchineus Poinar and Brown, 2009, n. placem. is transferred from the subfamily Curculioninae of the family Curculionidae to the subfamily Carinae of the family Ithyceridae. The genus Paleocryptorhynchus Poinar, 2009, n. placem. is transferred from the subfamily Cryptorhynchinae to the subfamily Erirhininae. In accordance with the ICZN (1999), seven actions are taken to preserve nomenclatural stability of taxa currently belonging to Curculionidae. Following the provisions of Article 23.9.1 Dorytomus rufatus (Bedel, 1888) (formerly Eteophilus) is made a nomen protectum and Curculio arcuatus Panzer, 1794, Curculio fructuum Marsham, 1802 and Dorytomus simplex Faust, 1883 are made nomina oblita; Orchestes pilosus (Fabricius,1781) (formerly Curculio) is made a nomen protectum and Curculio segetis Linnaeus, 1758 and Curculio saltatorsegetis DeGeer, 1775 are made nomina oblita. Having met the conditions of Article 75 neotypes of Curculio fructuum Marsham, 1802, Curculio rubellus Marsham, 1802, Curculio saltatorsegetis DeGeer, 1775, Curculio segetis Linnaeus, 1758 and Dorytomus rufulus Bedel, 1884 are designated. Faunal data on eight species of the tribe Cionini Schoenherr, 1825 are presented. A total of 422 specimens of this tribe were reviewed. The bibliographical information on this tribe in Latvia is summarized for the first time. The annotated list including nine species and the illustrated key to Latvian Cionini are given.

Sclerolepidia are minute specialized structures found only alongthe metepisternal suture in the weevil subfamilies Scolytinae, Cossoninae, Baridinae and some tribes in the Cryptorhynchinae, Conoderinae, Molytinae, Curculioninae and Cyclominae of the Curculionidae. Their presence has been used to establish relationships at subfamily level in the Curculionidae, although some of these are questionable, because of misperceptions of the distribution of the structure across taxa. Within the Curculionidae sclerolepidia are probably homologous, but provide limited information aiding establishment of sister‐group relationships between subfamilies, and multiple loss is likely. Analogous structures occur in the Erirhinidae and the Eucnemidae, but not elsewhere in the Coleoptera. Structural evidence shows sclerolepidia to be derived from scales. The mating behaviour of Staminodeus vectoris Franz (Curculionidae: Curculioninae: Derelomini) is described and discussed in light of a phylogeny of Staminodeus Franz. At La Selva, Costa Rica, S. vectoris is associated with the staminodes of the inflorescences of Asplundia uncinata Harling and several other species of Cyclanthaceae. The males have a row of 6–10 teeth along the margin of the protibia, whereas the females have a small, curved spine on the frons. The adults arrive in numbers at the inflorescences during the pistillate phase of the anthesis of A. uncinata, feeding on the staminodes. Eventually, a female detaches a staminode with her mandibles, falls to the ground, and transports it to the site of oviposition in the leaf litter. First, she crawls underneath the staminode, then moves it posteriorly with her legs, and finally returns to its distal end before repeating the process. Five new species of Anthonomini associated with the mistletoe genus Phoradendron (Viscaceae) are described. Smicraulax nigrinus new species, is described from Guatemala, Honduras and Panama (type locality, Panama, Chiriqui, Boquete [5.7 km NE]). Distinguishing features are the shiny black integument with aeneous reflection, dorsally glabrous except for patches of white scales medially at base of pronotal disk and on scutellum, and moderately deeply, densely punctate pronotal disk. Smicraulax otidocephaloides new species, is described from Panama (type locality, Panama, Chiriqui, Boquete [5.8 km NE]). The New World weevil fauna of the parasitic plant family Viscaceae is comprised of 24 species in eight genera representing four tribes of Curculioninae. Genera represented (numbers of species and tribal placement in parentheses) are as follows; Anthonomus (3), Smicraulax (3) and Cionomimus (9) (Anthonomini), Myrmex (1) (Otidocephalini), Hohonus (2) (Cryptorhynchini), and Cylindrocopturinus (4), Turcopus (1) and Coturpus (1) (Zygopini). Smicraulax arizonicus Sleeper and S. tuberculatus Dietz are reported from Mexico; S. piercei is recorded from Chiapas, Mexico. Three new species of Anthonomus, A. brachyrhinus, A. guerreroensis and A. phoradendrae are described from Mexico. A brief account of the present state of weevil taxonomy is followed by a detailed study of certain structures used in their classification, namely the venter, abdominal tergites, sternite 8 of the male, apex of the hind tibia and deciduous mandibular processes. A key to some 50 families and subfamilies of Curculionoidea is followed by a list of family-group taxa. One species of Apionidae and 59 of Curculionidae are represented in the material studied from the Poor Knights Islands. Species identifications are made for 45; two new genera are proposed and another is reinstated, two specific names are replaced for junior homonyms, 23 new combinations are presented, eight genera and 53 species are reduced to synonymy, and the subfamily concept of Curculioninae is broadened.
