The Asiatic softshell turtle, also known as the black-rayed softshell turtle (Amyda cartilaginea; Accession no: MT039230), is found in northeastern India (Mizoram), Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. This turtle is thought to have been introduced into the Sunda Islands, Sulawesi, and Yunnan, China, through the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. Herein, we determined the complete mitochondrial genome of A. cartilaginea for the first time using next-generation sequencing (NGS). The assembled mitogenome was 16,763 bp in length and encoded 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA genes (12S rRNA and 16S rRNA), and one control region (CR). The PCGs based maximum-likelihood phylogeny discriminated A. cartilaginea from other Testudines and clusters within family Trionychidae with the sister taxa of Nilssonia nigricans.

The complete mitochondrial of Cynops cyanurus cyanurus was determined by using Sanger sequencing and the mitogenome size of C. c. cyanurus was 16,465 bp. It contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs, 1 control region (D-loop) and a non-coding region (NC). In addition, the phylogenetic tree shows that C. c. cyanurus has the closest relationship with C. c. chuxiongensis. Hoping this study can improve our understanding of the species evolutionary relationship of Cynops.

Due to the multiple causes, the population of roe deer has declined significantly. In this study, we analyzed the complete mitogenome of Capreolus pygargus bedfordi, whose genome was 16,357 bp long. There were 13 protein-coding genes (PCG), two ribosomal RNA genes (12S rRNA and 16S rRNA), 22 transfer RNA genes, and one control region. Nine PCGs started with ATG, while NAD2, NAD3, and NAD5 genes commenced with ATA, and ND4L began with GTG. ND6 and eight tRNA genes were encoded on the L-strand. These results provide newer molecular information, which contribute to its molecular and phylogenetic studies, and genetic diversity conservation.

Adaptive evolutions to high-altitude adaptation have been intensively studied in mammals. However, considering the additional vertebrate groups, new perception regarding selection challenged by high-altitude stress on mitochondrial genome can be gained. To test this hypothesis, we compiled and analyzed the mitochondrial genomes of 5 alpine pheasants and 12 low-altitude species in Phasianidae. The results that evolutionary rates of ATP6 and ND6 showing significant fluctuation among branches when involved with five alpine pheasants revealed both genes might have implications with adapting to highland environment. The radical physico-chemical property changes identified by the modified MM01 model, including composition (C) and equilibrium constant (ionization of COOH) (Pk') in ATP6 and beta-structure tendencies (Pβ), Pk', and long-range non-bonded energy (El) in ND6, suggested that minor overall adjustments in size, protein conformation and relative orientation of reaction interfaces have been optimized to provide the ideal environments for electron transfer, proton translocation and generation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Additionally, three unique substitution sites were identified under selection in ND6, which could be potentially important adaptive changes contributing to cellular energy production. Our findings suggested that adaptive evolution may occur in alpine pheasants, which are an important complement to the knowledge of genetic mechanisms against the high-altitude environment in non-mammal animals.

In this study, we first characterized the complete mitogenome of Pygathrix nigripes, and analysed its phylogenetic status. The circular mitogenome was 16,534 bp in length, and contained 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and one non-coding control region (D-loop). These genes except ND6 and 8 tRNA genes were encoded on the H-strand. The phylogenetic analysis exhibited that our sequence formed a sister branch with P. cinereal and P. nemaeus of genus Pygathrix, which showed a closer genetic relationship of the three species. These information contribute to molecular, phylogenetic studies and genetic diversity conservation for this species.

In this study, the near complete mitogenome sequence (15,469 bp) of Oreolalax major was determined using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and 19 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes (GenBank accession number KU310894). The features of O. major have one more tRNA gene (tRNAMet) behind the original one before ND2 which is similar to Leptobrachium boringii. Phylogenetic analyses were based on the concatenated sequences of the 13 protein-encoding genes of O. major and other related species.

ND6 and eight tRNA genes (tRNA(Gln), tRNA(Ala), tRNA(Asn), tRNA(Cys), tRNA(Tyr), tRNA(Ser(UCN)), tRNA(Pro), and tRNA(Glu)) encoded on light strand, and the other 12 protein-coding genes encoded on heavy strand. Mitochondrial genes had been widely used in studies of phylogenetic relationships, molecular diagnostics, and an important tool for genome architecture, it has a significance mean for us provided the complete mitochondrial genome of G. elliotii to the Timaliidae family construction in the future.

Timaliidae, generally known as the babblers, includes about 275 species in 50 genera. We sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome of Garrulax ocellatus, and it was determined to be 17,828 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNAsfer (tRNA) genes, and 2 control regions. The complete mitochondrial genome contained 15.24% G, 23.02% T, 33.13% C, and 28.61% A, which was similar to other Passeriformes mitochondrial genomes. There are eight tRNA genes and one PCG (ND6) encoded on the L-strand, and other PCGs were encoded on the H-strand. All genes were closely assembled and only 17 intergenic spacers were observed. In total, the spacers were 99 bp in length, and there were seven pairs of genes overlapping sequences of 30 bp in length. Phylogenetic relationship could provide useful information for the further study on the species taxonomic.

We newly sequenced the mitochondrial genome of Tylototriton wenxianensis. The total length of the T. wenxianensis mitogenome is 16 265 bp, with GenBank accession number KR733683. It consists of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNA), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNA), and one control region (CR). Most of the genes are encoded on the H-strand, except for eight tRNA and ND6, which are encoded on the L-strand. Our mitogenomic phylogenetic tree showed that the relationships among the genera Tylototriton, Echinotriton, and Pleurodeles were well supported, and which is consistent with the previous molecular phylogeny.

Tylototriton taliangensis was listed as a Near Threatened amphibian in IUCN red list. In this study, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial (mt) genome of this species (GenBank: KP979646) and found it contains 16,265 base pairs, which encode 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNA), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNA) and 1 control region (CR). We also found that almost all PCGs and tRNA genes are located on the H-strand, except for ND6 subunit gene and eight tRNA genes, which were distributed on the L-strand. The PCGs used "ATG" and "GTG" as the start codon, while used four types of stop codons. Almost all tRNA genes were folded into typical cloverleaf secondary structures. The L-strand replication origin (OL) and a non-coding region were also found. The new mitogenomic phylogenetic tree confirms the reciprocally monophyly of the genus Tylototriton, Echinotriton and Pleurodeles with high bootstrap value. The present study will provide information for future studies on the conservation genetics and phylogeny of this species and its relatives.
