A new and efficient protocol is presented for selective and direct oxidative conversion of phenylmethylene-2-thiohydantoins to corresponding hydantoins. It involves the use of SnCl2.2H2O, which oxidatively desulfurizes the phenylmethylene-2-thiohydantoins to their corresponding hydantoin analogues in good to excellent yields while all other 2-thiohydantoins remain unaffected. Pyrazolopyrimidine and pyrimidopyrimidine derivatives have shown a wide range of biological activities such as acting as A1 adenosine receptors, kinase insert domain receptor (KDR), Rous sarcoma oncogene (Src), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), antiproliferative, dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), antimicrobial, antifungal, and lipid peroxidation. Because of this wide range of activities, we have synthesized pyrazolo[3,4‐d]pyrimidines and pyrimido[4,5‐d]pyrimidin‐4‐one derivatives.

First report on the abnormal dearylation/dealkylation reaction occurring during dehydrogenation in one‐pot, three‐component condensation of dihydropyrido[2,3‐d]pyrimidines.

N-alkyiation of primary amines has been carried out with alkylbromide using commercial Me2SO and K2CO3 as a base. This process offers a method of selection for obtaining either mono or dialkyl amines.
