Objective. A meta-analysis of placebo-controlled trials was conducted to evaluate the effect of l-arginine supplementation on blood pressure (BP) in pregnancy. Methods. Trials were searched in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library. A total of five trials were included in the meta-analysis. Results. l-Arginine supplementation exhibited a mean decrease of 3.07 mmHg (p = 0.004) for diastolic blood pressure and a mean increase of 1.23 weeks (p = 0.002) for gestation age at delivery in pregnancy, but did not reduce systolic BP (p = 0.19) as compared to placebo. Conclusion. l-Arginine supplementation had a significant effect of lowering diastolic blood pressure and prolonging gestation age in pregnancy.

Two new copper(II) complexes were synthesized from 2-hydroxyl-4-methoxyacetophone with R-NH–CH2–CH2–CH2–NH2 (for complex 1, R = H; complex 2, R = C6H5–CH2–) in the presence of Cu2+. Crystals of 1 were monoclinic, space group P21/n, with a = 12.6408(10) A, b = 7.4063(6) A, c = 16.8863(14) A and β = 93.3590(10)°, complex 2 crystals were triclinic, space group P with a = 7.561(3) A, b = 10.680(4) A, c = 13.868(5) A and α = 97.389(6)°, β = 95.240(6)°, γ = 101.206(6)°. Both Cu(II) atoms were four-coordinate with distorted square-planar geometry. The toxicity of 1 and 2 were evaluated by testing antimicrobial activity against bacterial strands.

Two new copper(II) complexes were synthesized by reaction of N-(3-aminopropyl)benzylamine (L1: apba, for complex 1) and N-salicylidene-apba (L2: for complex 2) with Cu2+. Crystals of complex 1 were orthorhombic, space group pccn, with a = 15.2149(10), b = 25.0071(16), c = 7.6280(5) A and α = β = γ = 90°. Complex 2 crystals were monoclinic, space group P21/c, with a = 8.688(6), b = 12.812(9), c = 16.022(11) A and β = 99.241(10)°. Structures of the two complexes were centro-symmetric and both Cu(II) atoms were four coordinate with a distorted square-planar geometry. The toxicity of the complexes was evaluated by testing antimicrobial activity against bacterial strands.

A new mixed‐valence trinuclear manganese(III/II/III) complex was synthesized by ethanolamine and paeonol in the presence of Mn(acetato)2·4H2O. The crystal of the complex was characterized by X‐ray diffraction, IR, UV spectroscopy, molar conductivity and elemental analyses. The structurally characterized mixed‐valence complex has strictly 180° MnIII‐ MnII‐ MnIII angle as required by crystallographic inversion symmetry. The Mn(1) … Mn(2)#1 separation is 3.0500(8) A. Antimicrobial activity study found that the complex was active against Salmonella species, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus pumilus and Eschierichia coli.

A new bicadmium (II) complexe with hydroxyisopropyl pendants was synthesized by [2+2] Schiff base condensation of 1‐[bis(3‐aminopropyl)amino]‐2‐propanol with sodium 2,6‐diformyl‐4‐Cl‐phenolate in the presence of Cd2+. Crystals of complex 1 were monoclinic, space group P21/c with a=15.136(6), b=17.713(7), c=17.609(7) A and β=92.560(7)°. Cd(1) atom lies in an N3O3 coordination environment and possesses a distorted octahedral geometry. Cd(2) atom was hepta‐coordinated with the coordination surrounding of monocapped‐octahedral geometry. The toxicity of the complex was evaluated by testing antimicrobial activity against bacterial strands, such as Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus pumilus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli.

A new bicopper (II) complex [Cu2L2Cl2 · H2O, H2 L=C6H5CH(OH)CH(CH3)N=CH(C6H5‐2‐OH)], has been synthesized by Schiff base condensation of phenylpropanolamine with salicylaldehyde in the presence of Cu2+. The crystal of the complex was characterized by X‐ray diffraction, IR, ES‐MS spectroscopy, molar conductivity and elemental analyses. Antimicrobial activity study found that the complex was active against Candida albican, Bacillus pumilus and Bacillus coliforms.

A new dinuclear copper(II) complex was synthesized by reaction of 5,5‐diphenylimidazoline‐2,4‐dione (phenytoin, PHT), 3‐amino‐1‐propanol(PA) and copper acetate. Its crystal structure was determined by single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c with a=28.429(10), b=8.328(3), c=17.863(7) A, β=111.189(6)°; V=3943(2) A3, Mr=833.87, Z=4, F(000)=1736, Dc=1.405 g/cm3, μ=1.137 mm−1, the final R=0.0699 and wR=0.1737. The symmetric unit is comprised of four molecules. The complex is a centrosymmetric plane in which each copper(II) is coordinated in the quadrilateral plane to the ligand phenytoin through the deprotonated oxygen atom of 3‐amino‐1‐propanol as well as the nitrogen atoms of imine and amine. The Cu(II)…Cu(II) average distance is 3.005 (19) A.

A new copper(II) complex [Cu(imH)(aepa)](ClO4)2], was synthesized by the self‐assembly of N‐(2‐aminoethyl)‐1,3‐propylamine, imidazole and Cu(II) ion. The crystal of the complex was characterized by X‐ray diffraction. It was characterized by IR, UV‐VIS spectroscopy, molar conductivity and elemental analyses. Cyclic voltammogram shows a quasi‐reversible peak for CuII/CuI. Antimicrobial activity study found that the complex was active against Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus pumilus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Eschierichia coli.

Salicylidene-o-aminophenol and its Zn(II), Cd(II) complexes are synthesized by rapid microwave-assisted solution phase method and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, ES-MS, and molar conductivity. The structure of salicylidene-o-aminophenol was also confirmed by X-ray diffraction.
