Background LncRNA PMS2L2 plays critical protective roles in chondrocytes during lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation. Our preliminary deep sequencing revealed the altered expression of PMS2L2 in endometrial adenocarcinoma (EA) during chemotherapy. This observation triggered our interest to explore the functions of PMS2L2 in EA. Methods Levels of PMS2L2 in plasma were measured by qPCR. ROC curve analysis was used for diagnostic analysis. Cell viability was analyzed by cell viability assay. Results We showed that plasma PMS2L2 was downregulated in EA patients compared with healthy controls, and downregulation of PMS2L2 distinguished early-stage EA patients from healthy controls. During carboplatin-based chemotherapy, plasma levels of PMS2L2 were significantly downregulated in endometrial cancer patients. Overexpression of PMS2L2 led to decreased viability of EA cells, while PMS2L2 siRNA silencing led to increased viability of EA cells. Conclusion LncRNA PMS2L2 in endometrial cancer was downregulated during carboplatin treatment and regulates chemosensitivity.

Alkaline residue, a common solid waste from the Lianyungang Soda Plant, China, was, respectively, modified by FeCl3·6H2O (FeCAR) and MnSO4·H2O (MnCAR) for arsenate adsorption. The specific surface areas and morphologies of FeCAR and MnCAR were determined by BET and SEM methods. The adsorption properties including adsorption kinetics, isotherms, and thermodynamics were investigated in depth. The experimental data were analyzed by different kinetic and isotherm models, and the results showed that for both FeCAR and MnCAR, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model was the best-fit model for describing the adsorption process while the Langmuir isotherm model provided the best fit to the equilibrium data. The maximum adsorption capacity calculated from the Langmuir equation was 44.4 mg/g for FeCAR and 22.6 mg/g for MnCAR, which were greater than other low-cost materials. The role of a biosurfactant (i.e. alkyl polyglycosides, APG in short) and a chemical surfactant (i.e. sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS in short) on the hydrolysis and acidogenesis of waste-activated sludge was investigated in this study. The results showed that both sludge hydrolysis and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) accumulation were increased by APG or SDS addition. The maximum SCFAs concentrations were as high as 2,330 mg L−1 at SDS dosage of 0.2 g g−1 TSS, and 2,222 mg L−1 at APG dosage of 0.2 g g−1 TSS, while the maximum SCFAs concentration was only 1,212 mg L−1 in the blank test. In addition, the distribution of individual SCFA was also influenced significantly at the presence of these two surfactants. Zero valent iron (ZVI) is the most commonly applied as a reactive media in remediation of wastewater treatment. In this work, a novel ZVI-acid pretreatment was expected to improve the anaerobic fermentation of waste activated sludge (WAS). The experimental results showed that pH significantly affected the function of ZVI, and the maximum SCOD, soluble protein, and polysaccharides were observed at pH 3.0 in the presence of ZVI. At fermentation time of 4 d, the maximum total volatile fatty acids (VFAs) was 900 mg/L with ZVI dosage of 1 g/g DS, which was 1.53-fold higher than the blank test. The analysis of VFAs composition showed that acetic, propionic, and valeric acids were the three main products at any ZVI dosage, and ZVI dosing contributed to a greater proportion of acetic acid and a lesser proportion of propionic acid.
