Abstract

The article focuses on copyrights concerning orphan works and access to copyright published works by visually impaired people (VIP). It states the World Intellectual Property Organization's Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights plans on creating an international instrument that establishes limitations and exceptions for VIP who have difficulty reading printed materials. It mentions the European Council established a directive concerning the digitization of orphan works.

Abstract

The article discusses copyright protections and exemptions undertaken by several countries. It cites Argentina's proposed draft bill extending the terms of copyright protection on photographs fro 20 years to life of the photographer plus 70 years which is being opposed by Argentine pressure group Fundacion Via Lbre. It cites efforts of library bodies to persuade World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to support international copyright exceptions for libraries and archives.
