Abstract

A study is conducted on microdischarge phenomenon to estimate electro insulating properties of contact materials in vacuum interrupters. It shows that the determination coefficient, measure of the dependence of breakdown voltage on the microdischarge onset voltage of Cu, W-Cu, Cu-Cr25 and Cu-Cr50 are 0.58, 0.80,0.90 and 0.94 respectively. The relation between the breakdown voltage in the vacuum gap and parameters describing microdischarges is very strong.
