The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C14H10N4O2, contains two independent molecules with similar structures. In one molecule, the tetrazole ring is oriented at dihedral angles of 17.71 (16) and 57.13 (17)°, respectively, to the central benzene ring and the terminal benzene ring; in the other molecule, the corresponding dihedral angles are 16.46 (18) and 75.87 (18)°. Intermolecular N—H...N hydrogen bonds and weak C—H...O and C—H...N hydrogen bonds occur in the crystal structure.

The title molecule, C17H20O3S, displays a U-shaped structure; the two benzene rings are nearly parallel and partially overlapped to each other, the dihedral angle and centroid-to-centroid distance being 15.0 (2)° and 3.723 (2) Å. In the crystal, weak intermolecular C—H...O hydrogen bonds link the molecules, forming supramolecular chains running along the a axis.

In the title molecule, C22H13Br2NO2, the three benzene rings are arranged in a propeller-like fashion around the central malemide ring, making dihedral angles of 48.2 (4), 30.2 (4) and 34.8 (4)° with the malemide ring. The C—C single-bond lengths connecting benzene groups and maleimide are significantly shorter [C—C = 1.468 (9) and 1.478 (9) Å] than a typical Csp3—Csp3 single bond, indicating partial conjugation between the benzene and the maleimide. A weak nonclassical C—H...O hydrogen bond helps to stabilize the crystal structure.

The title compound, C12H8N2O5, was obtained by the reaction of 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene and phenol in the presence of potassium carbonate. The nitro-substituted benzene ring lies on a mirror plane, with one NO2 group in the same plane and the other disordered across this plane. The phenoxybenzene unit is placed perpendicular to this mirror, resulting in an exact orthogonal relationship between the phenyl and benzene rings in the molecule. The crystal packing exhibits no significantly short intermolecular contacts.
