By establishing the discrete iterative mapping model of a current mode controlled buck-boost converter, this paper studies the mechanism of mode shift and stability control of the buck-boost converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode with a ramp compensation current. With the bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov exponent spectrum, time-domain waveform and parameter space map, the performance of the buck-boost converter circuit utilizing a compensating ramp current has been analysed. The obtained results indicate that the system trajectory is weakly chaotic and strongly intermittent under discontinuous conduction mode. By using ramp compensation, the buck-boost converter can shift from discontinuous conduction mode to continuous conduction mode, and effectively operates in the stable period-one region.

Hydrogen absorptions of LaFe11.5Si1.5 compound in 1-atm hydrogen gas at different temperatures are investigated. The hydrogen content in the hydrogenated sample does not increase with the increase of temperature of hydrogen absorption but changes complicatedly. The characteristic of first-order transition in LaFe11.5Si1.5 compound is weakened after hydrogen absorption. It leads the peaks of magnetic entropy to become wider and the hysteresis loss to reduce significantly, but relative cooling power (RCP) is not changed considerably.

This paper proposes a new robust chaotic system of three-dimensional quadratic autonomous ordinary differential equations by introducing an exponential quadratic term. This system can display a double-scroll chaotic attractor with only two equilibria, and can be found to be robust chaotic in a very wide parameter domain with positive maximum Lyapunov exponent. Some basic dynamical properties and chaotic behaviour of novel attractor are studied. By numerical simulation, this paper verifies that the three-dimensional system can also evolve into periodic and chaotic behaviours by a constant controller.

We report a new hyperchaotic attractor coined from the chaotic Lu system by using a state feedback controller. Theoretical analyses and simulation experiments are conducted to investigate the dynamical behaviour of the proposed hyperchaotic system.

In this paper, a practical equivalent circuit of an active flux-controlled memristor characterized by smooth piecewise-quadratic nonlinearity is designed and an experimental chaotic memristive circuit is implemented. The chaotic memristive circuit has an equilibrium set and its stability is dependent on the initial state of the memristor. The initial state-dependent and the circuit parameter-dependent dynamics of the chaotic memristive circuit are investigated via phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponents. Both experimental and simulation results validate the proposed equivalent circuit realization of the active flux-controlled memristor.

A valley current-mode (VCM) controlled buck converter with current source load (CSI) has complex phenomena of fast-scale and slow-scale subharmonic oscillations. The piecewise smooth switching model of the VCM controlled buck converter with CSI is established. It is found that attractive regions of fast-scale and slow-scale subharmonic oscillations exist in the bifurcation diagram, and two tori exist in the corresponding Poincare mapping. The research results by time-domain simulation indicate that U-type subharmonic oscillation (SO) constituted by SO and frequency-reduced subharmonic oscillation (FSO) exists in inductor current, and sine-type SO constituted by fast scale and low scale exists in output voltage respectively. Experimental results are given to verify the analysis and simulation results.

Unlike conventional chaotic systems, a memristor based chaotic circuit has an equilibrium set, whose stability is dependent on the initial state of the memristor. The initial state dependent dynamical behaviors of the memristor based chaotic circuit are investigated both theoretically and numerically.

The dynamical behaviours of valley current controlled buck converter are studied by establishing its corresponding discrete iterative map model in this paper. Time-domain waveforms and phase portraits of valley current controlled buck converter are obtained by Runge–Kutta algorithm through a piecewise smooth switching model. The research results indicate that the valley current controlled buck converter exhibits rich nonlinear phenomena, and it has routes to chaos through period-doubling bifurcation and border-collision bifurcation in a wide parameter range. Interesting inverse nonlinear behaviours compared with peak current controlled buck converter are observed in the valley current controlled buck converter. Analysis and simulation results are verified by experimental results.

This paper presents a new smooth memristor oscillator, which is derived from Chua's oscillator by replacing Chua's diode with a flux-controlled memristor and a negative conductance. Novel parameters and initial conditions are dependent upon dynamical behaviours such as transient chaos and stable chaos with an intermittence period and are found in the smooth memristor oscillator. By using dynamical analysis approaches including time series, phase portraits and bifurcation diagrams, the dynamical behaviours of the proposed memristor oscillator are effectively investigated in this paper.
