- Abstract
The present work is oriented to reflect on the genocide in Rwanda from the stories gathered in La mujer descalza by Scholastique Mukasonga. In the work, the author recalls her memories to review the experiences of displacement, violence, death and resistance of tutsi families in the period prior to the 1990s of the last century. This reading, along with other literary and academic texts, contributes to thinking about other temporalities to address the continuities in the Rwandan genocide. We propose a reading exercise whose objective is to avoid a single story and, at the same time, approach the experiences that emerge from the story of the work, considering that they account for the multiplicity of resistance the Rwandan women have exercised to face the violence displayed by hutus towards the tutsis, at least since 1960. For these reasons, this article not only intends to expand the debates on African studies in the Southern Cone but also to propose, through the reading of said wor, the exercise of rethinking various historical events, without considering only misfortunes, neither in Africa nor on another continent.
