The conference tackles topics relevant to the works and life of Irish writer James Joyce. The panel featured several Joycean scholars including Chi-hsien Hsieh from UCD, author Senn Fritz, and Ann Fallon of St. Patrick's College.

In this article the author comments on the interpretation on the works of Irish novelist James Joyce by critic Hugh Kenner. According to the author, Kenner came in many ways to seem to dominate the critical approaches to three towering modernist writers, who were, James Joyce, Samuel Beckett and Ezra Pound. What Joyceans sometimes tend to forget in any case is that Kenner also wrote about those other modernist figures. For that matter, even mentioning the names of Joyce, Beckett, and Pound is not to begin to do justice to Kenner's varied interests. At many a Joyce conference or Symposium, Hugh Kenner used to point his roguish finger and skewer a point with a twinkling rather than a colder eye.

In this article the author comments on the work of writer Hugh Kenner. According to the author Kenner's contribution to the studies of Irish novelist James Joyce, is only a fraction of his contribution to literary studies. He is a towering figure in Joyce studies as a result of his three books on Joyce, that are, "Dublin's Joyce"; "Ulysses"; and "Joyce's Voices," but for many other figures in modern literature, he is a good deal more important yet. The author remarks that as Kenner returned to writing on Joyce in the 1970s, he found a rich new vein, and the most important contribution here was the emphasis on the factive in Joyce, the way "Ulysses" in particular interpenetrates with the real world.
