The leafminers Liriomyza trifolii and L. sativae are exotic crop pests in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, and were first recorded in 1990 and 2001, respectively. From surveys conducted in the Prefecture between 1992 and 1994, seven parasitoid species were reared from L. trifolii, of which Neochrysocharis formosa and Chrysocharis pentheus were the most abundant. Surveys in 2004 and 2006 recorded 12 parasitoid species from L. sativae, and the most abundant parasitoids were once again N. formosa and C. pentheus. In both surveys, high female ratios were found in populations of N. formosa, suggesting that this species is parthenogenetic. Our surveys indicate that N. formosa and C. pentheus are the dominant parasitoid species of exotic invasive Liriomyza spp. and may play a key role in regulating their populations.

In order to examine the relative abundance of indigenous parasitoids against three leafminer species, Liriomyza trifolii, L. sativae and Chromatomyia horticola, kidney bean plants infested with larvae of each species were exposed in vegetable gardens or grassland to different seasonal conditions (spring, summer and fall). Abundant parasitoid species were Chrysocharis pentheus, Diglyphus isaea and D. minoeus in spring or fall, and Neochrysocharis formosa, D. albiscapus and D. pusztensis in summer. Also, abundant parasitoid species varied among the different field conditions; however, within the same season and field the dominant parasitoid species were similar in all three leafminer species tested. Our findings indicate that the dominant parasitoid species did not exhibit any strong preference in the field between the three host species, namely L. trifolii, L. sativae or C. horticola.

The seasonal prevalence of the citrus red mite and its predators on Satsuma mandarin trees was surveyed by naked-eye observation and the beating method in three commercial groves in Shizuoka Prefecture in 2003 and 2004. Of the predators, only phytoseiid mites were caught mainly by beating, and their population dynamics were synchronized with those of the citrus red mite from June to September. Most adult females of phytoseiid mites caught by beating belonged to the species Neoseiulus californicus. Furthermore, one population of N. californicus caught from a surveyed grove showed development and oviposition on the eggs of the citrus red mite as well as the Tetranychus urticae eggs under experimental conditions. These results indicate that an indigenous population of N. californicus in conventionally controlled citrus groves in central Japan has the ability to suppress the population of P. citri on Satsuma mandarin.

The relationship between the seasonal prevalence of the predacious coccinellid Pseudoscymnus hareja and the mulberry scale Pseudaulacaspis pentagona in tea fields was investigated using sticky traps set inside tea bushes. Crawlers (newly-hatched larvae) and winged adult males of P. pentagona and adults of P. hareja were captured in large numbers. The number of trapped P. hareja adults reached a peak 0 to 15 days (average: 6.9 days) after the peak in the number of P. pentagona crawlers in each tea field. P. hareja adults captured in this period are considered to have visited tea fields to prey on P. pentagona larvae and to deposit their offspring (larvae), which primarily consume P. pentagona larvae. Another relatively lower peak in P. hareja adults was found 0 to 14 days (average: 6.6 days) after the peak in the number of P. pentagona adult males. P. hareja adults trapped in this period are suggested to be those that had spent their larval period feeding on P. pentagona larvae and male pupae in tea fields. Thus, the seasonal occurrence of P. hareja adults in tea fields is associated with that of P. pentagona larvae as the main prey of P. hareja larvae.

The pathogenicity of Japanese strains of the entomopathogenic fungi, Paecilomyces fumosoroseus, Beauveria bassiana and Aschersonia aleyrodis, against the nymphs of the silverleaf whitefly, Bemisia argentifolii, was compared with that of strains from foreign commercial products, including P. fumosoroseus, B. bassiana and Verticillium lecanii. With a single dose of 6×108 conidia/ml, the highest mortality was observed for the Japanese strain P. fumosoroseus PF3110, although it did not cause significantly different mortality than the strains from foreign commercial products. The LC50 values of the native strain were determined on various days after inoculation and the LT50 values were determined at different doses. The native strain, P. fumosoroseus PF3110, has potential as a microbial control agent against this whitefly.

To clarify the reason for the recent dramatic outbreak of the leafminer, Chromatomyia horticola (Goureau), on the green pea in Japan, the insecticide susceptibility of two leafminer populations collected from grower's pea fields in Shizuoka and Kagoshima Prefectures was measured in a laboratory assay. Of the five insecticides registered for leafminer control on the pea, cartap was moderately effective, but phenthoate, malathion, permethrin and tralomethrin were less effective on larvae of the leafminer populations at their recommended dilutions. The leafminer population from Shizuoka was slightly less susceptible than the population from Kagoshima to all insecticides tested by LC50 assay. Emamectin-benzoate, fipronil, spinosad, chlorfenapyr, cyromazine and isoxathion were very effective in controlling leafminer populations. The impact of insecticide applications on the leafminer and associated parasitoids in pea fields in Shizuoka Prefecture was also discussed. Of the four samples of pea shoots collected from three fields, two samples collected one month after insecticide application had very few leafminers and many parasitoids. However the sample taken immediately after insecticide application had a very large number of emerged adult leafminers, but few parasitoids. The results suggest that the recent large outbreak of C. horticola might have resulted from a combination of low susceptibility to insecticides in the species and the destruction of the parasitoid complex due to frequent insecticide applications.

Carboxylesterase isozymes responsible for organophosphate resistance in the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover, were evaluated by inhibitory experiments on isoelectric focused bands. Differences in the carboxylesterase band patterns were detected between organophosphate-susceptible and resistant clones, and the activity of all bands was equally inhibited by fenitroxon in both clones. The activity was also inhibited by carbaryl, methomyl and K2 (2-phenoxy-4H-1,3,2-benzodioxaphosphorin 2-oxide) in a resistant clone. Fenitroxon showed the highest inhibitory activity. On the other hand, in the peach-potato aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulz.), used as a comparative aphid species, no difference was detected in the carboxylesterase band patterns between organophosphate-susceptible and resistant clones. A single band, however, showed different activity between the clones. The band, whose activity was inhibited by fenitroxon, may be the isozyme responsible for insecticide resistance in M. persicae. These results indicate that all carboxylesterase isozymes, but not the particular isozyme in M. persicae, are related to organophosphate resistance, and that overall enzyme activity determines the degree of resistance in A. gossypii.

The time of development from egg to pupal stage of four native parasitoid species, Neochrysocharis formosa, Hemiptarsenus varicornis, Diglyphus isaea and Chrysocharis pentheus, on a native leafminer species, Chromatomyia horticola, and an exotic leafminer species, Liriomyza sativae, was examined in a laboratory. The developmental time of N. formosa and H. varicornis did not differ significantly between the two host leafminer species, but that of D. isaea differed slightly. The developmental time of C. pentheus on L. sativae was significantly longer than that of C. horticola. The present findings suggest that L. sativae and C. horticola may have similar suitability as a host for N. formosa, H. varicornis and D. isaea, but not for C. pentheus.

マメハモグリバエLiriomyza trifolii個体群の増殖能力に及ぼす寄主植物と温度の影響を室内実験によって検討した.1. 8種類の寄主作物を供試して,25°C条件における蛹化率及び羽化率を調べた結果,蛹化率は56.2%(メロン)∼97.8%(インゲンマメ)と寄主によって有意に異なった.一方,羽化率は82.8%(セルリー)∼96.5%(ミニトマト)と寄主による差は小さかった.2. 次に,これまでに得られた数値から,25°Cにおける8種類の寄主植物における個体群増殖のパラメータを求めた.その結果,1世代平均期間,純繁殖率,1雌1日当たり内的自然増加率(r)及び1日当たり増殖倍率(λ)は,それぞれ20.08日(トマト)∼24.78日(キク),25.21倍(トマト)∼271.99倍(チンゲンサイ),0.1429(メロン)∼0.2384(インゲンマメ),1.154倍(メロン)∼1.269倍(インゲンマメ)となり,寄主作物によって増殖能力は大きく異なった.3. 15, 20, 25及び30°Cにおけるトマトを寄主とした場合の卵のふ化率,蛹化率,羽化率,産卵数及び雌成虫の寿命を調べた.その結果,蛹化率と羽化率には温度の影響が認められたが,ふ化率では認められなかった.また,産卵数は25°C条件が最も多く,雌成虫の寿命は温度が高いほど短かった.4. 得られた数値から,トマトを寄主とした場合の温度別の個体群増殖のパラメータを求めた.その結果,1世代平均期間は55.85日(15°C)∼14.27日(30°C),純繁殖率は0.79倍(15°C)∼25.21倍(25°C),1雌1日当たり内的自然増加率(r)は-0.0042(15°C)∼0.1607(25°C)となり,25°Cが個体群の増殖にとって最も好適な温度であった.

マメハモグリバエの多発したナスのハウス周辺に,黄色粘着トラップを等間隔で垂直方向と水平方向に設置し,マメハモグリバエ成虫の誘殺数を調べて,成虫の野外における空間的な移動分散の実態を明らかにした.1. 地上0.5mから5.5mの高さまで0.5m間隔で設置した黄色粘着トラップに誘殺された成虫数は,高度が低いほど多く,1m以下のトラップに総誘殺数の54.6∼76.0%が誘殺された.また,高度5.5mのトラップにもわずかであるが誘殺が認められた.2. 発生源ハウスから水平方向に東方48m及び西方25mまで5m間隔で並べた黄色トラップに誘殺された成虫数は,東西両方向ともにハウスに近いほど多く,ハウスからの距離の増加にともない減少した.また,風下の東方向の方が風上の西方向より誘殺数は多い傾向がみられた.3. 黄色トラップに誘殺された成虫の性比は有意に雄に偏っており,その雌比は垂直方向のトラップでは9.4%から31.7%,水平方向のトラップでは9.1%から29.9%であった.4. 黄色トラップに誘殺された成虫の性比と,トラップの設置場所の高度または発生源からの水平距離との間には,有意な相関関係は認められなかった.5. 黄色トラップによる誘殺数が多いほど,誘殺された成虫の雌比が低くなる傾向が認められ,誘殺数と性比との間には有意な相関関係が認められた.

マメハモグリバエの黄色粘着トラップによる成虫誘殺数および蛹トレイへの落下蛹数と見取り調査による幼虫および潜孔密度との関係を小規模なトマト栽培ハウスにおいて調べた.さらに,現地農家のトマト栽培ハウスにおいてトラップによる成虫誘殺数と幼虫および潜孔密度との関係を調べて,黄色トラップまたは蛹トレイを用いたモニタリング方法の妥当性の評価を行った.1. 小型ハウスにおける黄色トラップによる成虫誘殺数と幼虫密度との間には有意な正の相関関係が認められた(r2=0.40).さらに,平均気温で調査期間を高温期と低温期の2つに分けた場合,高温期では有意な相関関係は認められなかったが,低温期では有意な正の相関関係が認められた(r2=0.76).また,現地農家ハウスにおける黄色トラップによる成虫誘殺数と幼虫密度との間には,薬剤防除ハウスでは有意な正の相関関係が認められた(r2=0.64∼0.95)が,寄生蜂放飼による生物防除ハウスでは有意な相関関係は認められなかった.2. 黄色トラップによる累積成虫誘殺数とその1週間後の潜孔数との間には,小型ハウスと農家ハウスいずれにおいても有意な正の相関関係が認められた(r2=0.68∼0.96).3. 小型ハウスにおける蛹トレイへの落下蛹数と幼虫密度との間には,同時点では有意な正の相関関係(r2=0.37)が認められたが,蛹と次世代幼虫密度との関係をみた場合には有意な相関関係は認められなかった.4. 蛹トレイによる蛹の捕獲率は36.3∼5.0%と変動し,捕獲率と平均葉数との間には有意な負の相関関係が認められた(r2=0.66).5. 以上の結果から,黄色粘着トラップを用いたモニタリング方法によるマメハモグリバエの幼虫または潜孔の絶対密度の推定は,条件により可能であることが示唆された.

マメハモグリバエの生物的防除法を開発する一環として静岡県における寄生バチの発生実態を調査し,あわせて各種殺虫剤の散布が寄生バチに与える影響を圃場試験で検討した。1) マメハモグリバエの寄生バチは各地の露地および施設栽培圃場から採集されたが,殺虫剤の散布後まもない圃場からはほとんど採集されなかった。2) マメハモグリバエの寄生バチとして,コマユバチ科で3種,コバチ上科で13種(ヒメコバチ科9種;コガネコバチ科2種;ツヤヤドリタマバチ科1種;ツヤコバチ科1種)の合計16種が確認された。3) ヒメコバチ科に属するHemiptarsenus varicornis, Chrysocharis pentheus, Neochrysocharis okazakiiおよびN. formosaの4種は各地から広く採集され,これら寄生バチが優占種となっている圃場も多かった。施設栽培ではH. varicornisが年間を通して採集され,最も重要な寄生バチとなっていた。4) 非選択的殺虫剤(permethrin, ethofenprox, methomyl, prothiofos)を散布すると寄生バチの寄生率は著しく低下し,その後マメハモグリバエが多発した。一方,選択的殺虫剤(fenpyroximate, dicofol, fenbutatin oxide, pyridaben, buprofezin, flufenoxurone)を散布した場合は寄生バチの寄生率が低下せず,その後マメハモグリバエは減少傾向を示した。

ワタアブラムシの薬剤感受性クローン(1クローン)と薬剤抵抗性クローン(5クローン)について,有機リン剤(malathion, fenitrothion, dichlorvos, diazinon),カーバメート剤(carbaryl, methomyl),ピレスロイド剤(permethrin, fenvalerate),および有機塩素剤(DDT)に対する感受性を局所施用法によって検定した。さらに,各薬剤に対する抵抗性の発現機構をエステラーゼ阻害剤(K-2, DEF)と薬物酸化酵素阻害剤(PB, S-421)を用いて検討した。1) 抵抗性クローンはいずれも各有機リン剤に対して数倍∼数十倍の抵抗性比を示し,有機リン剤抵抗性は互いに交差関係にあるものと考えられた。2) 抵抗性クローンはcarbarylとmethomylに対して最大約70倍の抵抗性比を示したが,pirimicarbに対しては数千倍の抵抗性比を示し,カーバメート剤では抵抗性発達の程度が薬剤によって大きく違っていた。3) 抵抗性クローンのうち1クローンで,permethrinに対して数千倍,fenvalerateに対して1万数千倍に達する高度の抵抗性比が検出された。他のクローンのこれらピレスロイド剤に対する抵抗性比はいずれも小さかった。このことから,これらピレスロイド剤に対する抵抗性は互いに交差していること,有機リン剤とピレスロイド剤抵抗性とは交差していないことが考えられた。4) 各クローンのアリエステラーゼ活性は有機リン剤に対する抵抗性比と平行関係にあり,またエステラーゼ阻害剤は有機リン剤に対して最大250の協力作用係数を示した。このことから,エステラーゼは有機リン剤抵抗性の主要な発現機構となっているものと考えられた。5) エステラーゼ阻害剤と薬物酸化酵素阻害剤はカーバメート剤(carbaryl, methomyl)に対してそれぞれ最大で430と914の協力作用係数を示した。このことから,これら二つのカーバメート剤抵抗性はエステラーゼや薬物酸化酵素が関与する解毒活性の増大に起因するものと考えられた。6) エステラーゼ阻害剤と薬物酸化酵素阻害剤のピレスロイド剤に対する協力作用係数は最大199にとどまった。このことから,ピレスロイド剤抵抗性の発現には解毒酵素とは異なる別の要因の存在が考えられた。

ワタアブラムシの寄主選好性と有機リン剤抵抗性との関係を,本種のクローンや個体群を用いた寄主転換試験などにより検討した。1) ウリ科作物(メロンおよびキュウリ)由来のクローンをナス科作物(ナスおよびジャガイモ)に接種すると,元の寄主作物に接種した場合に比べて,接種した親虫の生存期間が著しく短くなり,産子数も大幅に減少した。また,産子された幼虫の発育や増殖も悪くなり,クローンを維持できなくなる場合が多かった。これと逆の組合せにおいても同様の傾向が認められた。以上の結果は接種源が有翅虫であっても無翅虫であっても同じであった。適合性の低かった植物でクローンの飼育を続けても,産子数が顕著に増えるといった傾向は認められなかった。2) イチゴ由来のクローンをナス科作物に接種すると,産子数が比較的多く,その後代の増殖も良好であった。しかし,ウリ科作物に接種した場合は,産子がほとんど行われなかった。一方,ウリ科作物とナス科作物由来のクローンはイチゴに対する産子数が比較的多く,その後の増殖も良好であった。3) クローンのアリエステラーゼ活性値は寄主植物が違ってもほとんど変動しなかった。4) メロンで採集した個体群をナスに接種すると,一時的な定着は起こっても,3か月以上生存できる個体はまったく検出されなかった。これと逆の組合せにおいても同様の現象が認められた。5) キュウリとナスを同一圃場に混植し,寄生個体のアリエステラーゼ活性を測定したところ,前者では高活性個体の,後者では低活性個体の検出頻度が高かった。6) オオイヌノフグリで胎生越冬したと思われる個体群のなかには,メロンとナスに対する選好性の異なる個体が混在していた。アリエステラーゼ活性はメロンを選好した個体で高く,ナスを選好した個体で低かった。7) 以上の結果から,ワタアブラムシにはウリ科作物あるいはナス科作物を選好する少なくても二つの系統が存在し,前者には有機リン剤抵抗性の高い個体が多く,後者にはそれの低い個体が多いことが推察された。両系統はバイオタイプが異なるものと考えられた。

Malathion剤の散布がワタアブラムシの有機リン剤感受性に及ぼす影響を,アリエステラーゼ活性を指標として室内試験および圃場試験で調べた。1) ジャガイモ個体群を本剤で処理した室内試験では,高濃度処理区ほど低活性個体が減少した。また,各処理後の生存虫における酵素活性の頻度分布の特徴はその後代にまで引き継がれた。2) 高活性クローンを50世代,約1年間累代飼育したところ,酵素活性は同一世代内でも個体によってかなりばらついたが,各世代における酵素活性の平均は高水準のまま維持された。3) ハウス栽培のナスでは,本剤の散布回数が増えるにしたがって,高活性個体頻度も増加した。このことから,閉鎖環境で薬剤を連用すると感受性の低下が短期間のうちに起こる可能性が示唆された。4) 一方,露地栽培のナスでは,本剤散布の影響がハウス栽培ほど明瞭にならなかった。これは,圃場外から低活性の有翅虫が盛んに移入したためと考えられた。

ワタアブラムシにおいて殺虫剤の分解・解毒酵素のひとつと考えられているエステラーゼの活性値を指標として,本種の寄主選好性を検討した。1) 16種類の寄主植物から採集した124個体群,合計3,679匹のエステラーゼ活性を個体別に測定したところ,酵素活性の個体頻度分布は0∼10nmolおよび40∼50nmolにピークをもつ明瞭な2山型を示した。このことから,本種を低活性個体と高活性個体とに大別できた。2) 酵素活性の頻度分布を寄主植物ごとにみると,ウリ科作物では高活性個体の頻度が高く,ナス科作物と雑草では低活性個体の頻度が高かった。また,イチゴとキクなどではこれらの中間的な頻度分布を示した。3) 同一圃場から採集した個体群であっても,寄主植物が異なると酵素活性の頻度分布が異なった。4) メロンの個体群では,採集時期にかかわらず高活性個体のみが検出された。5) 以上のことから,ワタアブラムシには寄主作物を異にするいくつかのバイオタイプが存在し,本種の薬剤抵抗性にこのような寄主選好性が密接に関連していることが推察された。

Egg-to-adult developmental times of Hemiptarsenus varicornis females and males at 25°C were 8.8 days and 8.6 days on Liriomyza trifolii, and 9.0 days and 8.8 days on L. bryoniae, respectively. The estimated lower threshold temperatures for development of the parasitoid females and males were 8.5 and 8.9°C on L. trifolii, and 8.4 and 8.2°C on L. bryoniae, respectively.

静岡県におけるワタアブラムシの薬剤感受性低下の実態を明らかにするため,各種の植物から採集した個体群について薬剤感受性の検定を実施し,あわせて個体別のエステラーゼ活性を測定した。1) 有機リン剤(dichlorvos, malathion),カーバメート剤(carbaryl),合成ピレスロイド混合剤(fenvalerate・malathion)のうち,合成ピレスロイド混合剤に対する感受性低下はほとんどみられなかったが,有機リン剤に対しては顕著な感受性低下が認められた。2) Dichlorvosの抵抗性比は最大でも30倍強にとどまったのに対し,malathionのそれでは100倍に達する個体群も認められ,有機リン剤のなかでも薬剤の種類によって抵抗性の発達程度が異なった。3) 有機リン剤に対する感受性低下の程度は,ウリ科作物,キク,イチゴから採集した個体群で大きく,ナス科作物,ムクゲ,ツルウメモドキから採集した個体群では小さい傾向がみられたが,感受性低下の程度と殺虫剤の使用回数には明確な関連が認められなかった。4) エステラーゼ活性の個体頻度分布は寄主植物によって大きく異なり,ウリ科作物,キクおよびイチゴでは高活性個体の頻度が高く,ナス科作物,ムクゲ,ツルウメモドキでは低活性個体の頻度が高かった。5) 薬剤感受性の検定およびエステラーゼ活性の測定結果から,本虫の薬剤抵抗性には寄主植物との関連が示唆された。6) DichlorvosあるいはmalathionのLC50値は個体別に測定したエステラーゼ活性の平均値と正の相関を示した。

Entomophthora aulicae caused an extensive epizootic in a population of Spilarctia imparilis larvae during July of 1981 in citrus orchards of Izu Peninsula, Japan. The same fungus caused high mortality in the larvae collected from fields. Several larvae collected were also killed by Paecilomyces fumoso-roseus and Metarhizium anisopliae.
