Many gastrointestinal tract cancers develop from premalignant lesions such as adenomas. According to a well-known adenoma-carcinoma sequence, most colorectal cancers (CRCs) arise from pre-existing adenomas. Therefore, the early detection and removal of adenomas via endoscopy is important for preventing CRC. However, conventional videoendoscopy is not accurate in detecting adenomas and may miss numerous small, flat lesions.
