The authors discuss the use of statins as a form of treatment in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, which affects nearly 3 percent of the global population. They describe several studies that have demonstrated the efficacy of statins, a cholesterol-lowering medication in inhibiting the replication of HCV. They highlight the need for further prospective studies to be conducted in large groups of patients in order to determine the efficacy of triglyceride-reducing agents.
