Abstract

The article presents a study which assesses the failure rates of metal-on-metal hip resurfacing in men and women and compared the survival with conventional stemmed total hip replacement (THR). The study analyzed data from the National Joint Registry for England and Wales (NJR) for primary THRs from 2003 to 2011. Results suggest that hip resurfacing has similar implant survival rates to other surgical options in men with large femoral heads but with inferior survivorship in other patients.
