The article discusses a study which assessed the prevalence and circumstances of sexual violence in girls in Swaziland and their negative health consequences. The study used a representative sample of girls and women aged 13-24 years from selected households in Swaziland to examine their demographics, type of sexual violence experienced before the respondent was 18 years of age, circumstances of the incident as well as health-related conditions. It was found that 33.2% of the respondents experienced an incident of sexual violence before their 18 years of age, and their most common perpetrators were men or boys from their neighbourhood and boyfriends and husbands.
