1. Library anxiety among undergraduate students of University of the Punjab: A Case Study.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the phenomenon of library anxiety in a Pakistan's academic library setting and examine various dimensions that may contribute towards increasing or decreasing the level of library anxiety. With the increase in use of information communication technologies, undergraduate students feel discomfort which leads to tension, fear and the feeling of uncertainty and obstruct efficient use of the library services. A sample of 550 undergraduate students of 1 st to 4th semesters of different departments / faculties of University of the Punjab, Quaid-e-Azam Campus, Lahore were chosen through Stratified random sampling technique (with equal allocation). AQAK was used as instrument designed by Anwer et. al for conducting this study, t-test and one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used for analyzing the data. The analysis revealed that most of the undergraduate students of different departments / faculties feel mild level of library anxiety. The results further explored that gender has no significant difference, Pakistani students feel slightly higher library anxiety than foreigner students and 1st semester undergraduate students feel higher Information resources and library staff anxiety than 4th semester students and 3rd semester students feel higher and significant user knowledge anxiety than 2nd and 4th semester students as well as 1st semester students have significant and higher user education anxiety than 2nd and 4th semester students. Further on the basis of findings, recommendations and suggestion to reduce or tackle the library anxiety were also provided. This type of exploration has never been done previously and the main role of this study is its innovative role in recognizing the existence and effect of library anxiety to library users in Pakistan.
