Abstract

The article presents a study which estimated unintended pregnancy rates among 7,225 active-duty women in the U.S. military in 2008. Based on cross-sectional data from the 2008 Department of Defense Survey of Health Related Behaviors Among Active Duty Military Personnel, the age-standardized rate was 78 per 1,000 women, 50% higher than the general U.S. population. It concludes that unintended pregnancy rates in the military are high and have increased in most key subgroups since the 2005 survey.
