The article argues for a shift from oppressive to healthy work environments for nurses. Topics discussed include oppressive group behaviors within the nursing profession, nursing as oppressed group, lateral violence, bullying and incivility, power hierarchy in healthcare organizations, inadequacy of human resource support, staffing crisis that leads to burnout, oppression in nursing leaders, and the need to break the oppressive cycle by creating a supportive culture and a culture of civility.
