Nomenclature issues of irises associated with the Turkish flora are discussed. In particular, Iris orientalis and four related names, I. ochroleuca, I. monnieri, I. gigantea, and I. albida, are typified. Lectotypes are designated for I. orientalis, I. monnieri, I. gigantea, and I. albida; a neotype for the Linnaean name I. ochroleuca is designated. Also, further support is provided for the suggestions that I. monnieri is a synonym to I. orientalis, and the author citation of the name I. monnieri is Redouté.

The genus Tephroseris (Rchb. in Mössler 1829: 1498) Reichenbach (1841: 87) comprises 15 (Cufodontis 1933) to about 50 (Nordenstam 2007) species distributed in Europe, Asia, and North America. Tephroseris integrifolia (Linnaeus 1753: 925) Holub (1973: 173) subsp. aurantiaca “(Hoppe ex Willdenow 1803: 2081) Nordenstam (1978: 44)” is a name currently accepted for a subspecies native to Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Balkan Peninsula (Greuter 2006+, CWG 2021, POWO 2021, WFO 2021). In Italy it was recorded by mistake (Bartolucci et al. 2018, 2020).

As a precursor of taxonomic revision of genus Parnassia, we present here the most current list of taxa. Parnassia currently has 61 species, 2 subspecies, 11 varieties and 1 forma, 76 synonyms and 8 invalid names, for a total of 159 names (autonyms not counted). Lectotypes are designated for 24 names and the correct author citation of P. ornata is formalized.

Zhu (2015) stated that “the correct author citation for nomenclatural novelties in volume 15 of Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae (Wang & Tang 1978) was not adequately explained in the publication”. He then used the information provided in Chen et al. (1993) as external evidence and applied Art. 46.9 of the Melbourne Code (McNeill et al. 2012) to reconsider the authorship citations of the 11 species and one variety. Thus, he (Zhu 2015) suggested to add an “ex” citation of the individual contributors after the original authors “Wang & Tang [Fa-Tsuan Wang (1899–1985) & Tsin Tang (1897–1984)]”.

Polypodium wallichii R.Br. ex Hooker & Greville (1830: 169) is based on a manuscript name of Robert Brown published by Wallich (1829) in his Numerical List, but that manuscript lacks a description. Hooker & Greville (1830) provided this description of P. wallichii, hence validating the name and thus the author citation should be “R.Br. ex Hook. & Grev.”.

We clear up the taxonomic and nomenclatural confusion involving Ligularia ghatsukupa , L. leesicotal and L . rumicifolia (Asteraceae, Senecioneae). The independent specific status of Ligularia leesicotal , which has been previously placed in synonymy within L. rumicifolia , is reinstated. Ligularia rumicifolia (Good) S. W. Liu (1985) is the correct author citation, not L. rumicifolia S. W. Liu (1985). Ligularia ghatsukupa is found to be conspecific with L. rumicifolia and is thus synonymized.

The correct author citation for nomenclatural novelties in volume 15 of the 126-volume Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae (FRPS) (1958–2004) was not adequately explained in the publication. Although this volume was edited by Prof. Fa-Tsuan Wang (1899–1985) and Prof. Tsin Tang (1897–1984) and all of the authors that contributed to it are listed on the two pages next to the last one, the contributor(s) to each generic account was not provided. However, they were provided by Chen et al. (1993), which should be treated as external evidence for correct citation for nomenclatural novelties in volume 15 (Art. 46.9; McNeill et al. 2012).

In a meristic, morphometric and distributional study of Neolissochilus from Peninsular Malaysia, Khaironizam et al . (2015) subsumed Lissochilus tweediei Herre in Herre & Myers 1937 and a taxon they called “ Tor soro Bishop 1973” into the synonymy of N. soroides (Duncker 1904) based on data collected from museum specimens. However, “Bishop 1973” is not the correct author citation for Tor soro. Instead, Tor (now placed in Neolissochilus ) soro was originally described as Barbus soro by Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes (1842:191). Since “ Tor soro Bishop 1973” is not a valid name/author combination, Neolissochilus soro , as treated by Khaironizam et al . (2015), cannot be considered a junior synonym of N. soroides .

A nomenclatural history of one of the most neglected and misunderstood species Racomitrium chlorocarpum is presented. Valid publication of this species name was incorrectly ascribed to M. Fleischer and R. chlorocarpum of 1904 is merely a younger isonym of R. chlorocarpum Paris of 1897. The species name is lectotypified with a specimen from Tasmania, Australia, deposited in the Hooker herbarium (BM), and an isolectotype is present in the herbarium of W. Mitten (NY). Racomitrium chlorocarpum is a typical representative of the genus Bucklandiella, the largest segregate of the broadly interpreted genus Racomitrium and the relevant transfer to this genus is effected as Bucklandiella chlorocarpa, comb. nov. The diagnostic characters of the species are briefly summarised. This is a hydrophytic species, endemic to Australasia and is known from SE Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.

Within the framework of a taxonomic revision of the genus Albuca we here present new data on Albuca crispa , a species described as having undulate-crispulate leaves and white-green nodding flowers, it being included in A. subgen. Falconera section Trianthera (as series Trianthera ). After studying both herbarium specimens and living plants from the type locality and other locations, it is clear that the protologue of A. crispa includes remarkable inaccuracies that make the understanding of that species very difficult, and that therefore are in need of correction. Furthermore, the new data would support the transfer of Albuca crispa to A. subgen. Mitrotepalum , a group characterized by the erect flowers and strongly hooded inner tepals. A complete description is presented for this species, and data on morphology, ecology, and distribution are reported. Affinities and divergences with other close allies are also discussed, and evidence is shown to propose amendment of author citation.
