Limonium ksamilum, a new species is described and illustrated from southern Albania, where it grows along the calcareous rocky coast near Ksamil. It shows close taxonomical relationships with L. dictyophorum, as well as with L. himariense and L. arcuatum, with which it shares similar ecological requirements. Remarks on its morphological features, distribution, ecology, conservation status and an analytical key for the species of Limonium occurring in Albania are provided.

The taxonomic relationships between Orobanche australis and O. thapsoides are analyzed through the study of the original material. These species are also compared with other morphologically similar ones occurring in the Mediterranean (O. canescens, O. pubescens, O. palaestina, O. amethystea). The lectotype of O. palaestina is designated. From the comparison of these taxa it is evident that O. australis and O. thapsoides refer to the same taxon, to which the name O. australis must be given by priority. The distribution of this species includes Sardinia, Sicily, Peninsular Italy and Southern France. It grows on pastures from the sea level to about 1000 m of altitude, host of Asteraceae. An identification key between the species considered and a distribution map is provided.

Fourteen names of North African taxa belonging to Biscutella ser. Biscutella (= ser. Lyratae Malin.), and described by Candolle, Willdenow and Maire, are typified here as a first step towards a taxonomic revision of that series. Lectotypes are designated from syntypes and original material conserved in the herbaria B and MPU: additionally, two epitypes are also designated. Furthermore, some historical comments are reported to support each type selection. Juno (Iris subg. Scorpiris) is a distinct group of bulbous irises, widely diversified in central and southwestern Asia and the Caucasus with some representatives in the Mediterranean basin. It is a monophyletic group with remarkable morphological, biogeographical and molecular peculiarities, which is accepted here as an independent genus. In the present contribution, some taxonomic and nomenclatural issues are discussed, concerning several names of juno irises. As a result, ten new combinations are established (nine at specific rank and one at varietal rank), and the taxonomic relationships of some taxa are revisited. Types are indicated for all discussed names, of which one lectotype and two neotypes are designated here. In a recent paper, Ferrer-Gallego (2015) has lectotypified the name Cistus origanifolius Lamarck (1786: 21), which is currently treated as belonging to Helianthemum Miller (1754: without page), either as H. origanifolium (Lam.) Persoon (1806: 76) subsp. origanifolium or H. marifolium (Linnaeus 1753: 526) Miller (1768: without page) subsp. origanifolium (Lam.) López González (1992: 54). It is endemic to southwestern Iberian Peninsula, though has mistakenly been cited also in North Africa (cf. Crespo et al. 2016). A new species, Goniolimon africanum is described and illustrated from Algeria and Tunisia (North Africa). This study, based on investigations of herbarium specimens and data from literature, highlights the fact that this species was collected for the first time by Ernest Cosson and provisionally named ‘Goniolimon luteolus’ nom. nud., while it was later attributed to G. tataricum. A detailed morphological study, carried out on some related European species of Goniolimon, has emphasized that African populations are taxonomically well differentiated from European ones. Its distribution, ecology and relationships are also examined. A table comparing the new species with the closest allied European species of Goniolimon is provided.

Our taxonomic and nomenclatural research reveals that the name ‘Carex laxula Tineo ex Boott’ (section Sylvaticae) has not been validly published. Consequently, the oldest available name for the species is Carex paui Sennen. A lectotype for the valid name Carex sylvatica var. laxula Tineo ex Guss. is here designated.

Bituminaria tunetana a new species occurring in Tunisia is described and illustrated. It shows some relationships with B. basaltica from Aeolian Archipelago (Sicily), mainly for having very small flowers and also with B. flaccida from Middle East in having pale colored corolla and few-flowered inflorescences, but the three species differ among them in many diacritic features regarding the leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds. Besides, it is well distinct from B. bituminosa, species widely spread in Sicily and in several countries of the Mediterranean area, for many morphological features, as well as in micro-morphology of seed testa and pod indumentum. Its distribution, ecology and conservation status are also examined. An analytical key of the species belonging to Bituminaria subgen. Bituminaria is also provided.

Limonium cophanense is described and illustrated as a new species from the rocky coast of northwestern Sicily. It is a very rare and localized chamaephyte occurring near the sea on calcarenitic substrate, where it grows together with other halophytes. Its morphology, ecology, conservation status and relationships with the species belonging to the L. bocconei group are also examined.

Salix nebrodensis, a new species distributed along the mountain streams of North-East Sicily, is described and illustrated. Its ecological requirements, conservation status and taxonomic relationships with S. apennina and S. tyrrhenica are also examined.

Three names of North African species described by Jordan in the end of the 19th century, Biscutella algeriensis, Biscutella choulettei and Biscutella mauritanica, are typified. Lectotypes are designated from syntypes conserved in the herbaria K, LY, MPU, P and W. Furthermore, some historical comments are reported that support type selection.
