In this article, the author discusses the role of Edmund S. Muskie, former U.S. Senator from Maine, in shaping the environmental laws of the U.S for the environmental protection. Topics discussed include his environmental accomplishments such as U.S. Clean Air Act of 1970 and the Clean Water Act of 1972, efforts of Muskie and his colleagues to give authority to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to deal with pollutants and his efforts for the regulation on emission controls.
