The article features U.S. glass artist Alison Reintjes. She has said that order, pattern and structure provide the starting-point for what has potentially an infinite variety. She has been exploring the idea that vessels should be suitable for table use and for display as sculptural elements of a wall. Her educational background, with focus on how she ended up taking ceramics, is discussed. It is noted that Japanese ceramics has been the greatest influence of all on Rieintjes. It is observed that the pattern in her ceramics is never mere neatness, mere decoration and mere mechanical exercise.
