- Abstract
Sleep is fundamental to the human body and any change in its cycles predisposes to the occurrence of sleep disorders. The objective of this study was to investigate the post-surgical repercussions on sleep quality of patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This is a prospective study., quantitative and analytical. The in Preoperative, the quality of sleep was evaluated through the Pittsburgh index, besides collection of sociodemographic data. In the postoperative, the quality of sleep was evaluated through Pittsburgh and pain through the in visual analogue scale, both evaluated both on the day of discharge from the intensive care unit and were re-evaluated on the day of hospital discharge. There was a significant difference in sleep quality between preoperative and postoperative periods, with the appearance of 56.25% of sleep disorders in the recent postoperative. The pain and complications were primarily responsible for the Pittsburgh score increase in the recent postoperative. The pain = 5 increased the chance of develop sleep disorder by 20 times. The sleep quality of the individuals is negatively altered in the postoperative period, with pain and complications being the main causes of these alterations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
