The last two years are considered the most crucial and critical period of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting most life aspects worldwide. This virus spreads quickly within a short period, increasing the fatality rate associated with the virus. From a clinical perspective, several diagnosis methods are carried out for early detection to avoid virus propagation. However, the capabilities of these methods are limited and have various associated challenges. Consequently, many studies have been performed for COVID-19 automated detection without involving manual intervention and allowing an accurate and fast decision. As is the case with other diseases and medical issues, Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides the medical community with potential technical solutions that help doctors and radiologists diagnose based on chest images. In this paper, a comprehensive review of the mentioned AI-based detection solution proposals is conducted. More than 200 papers are reviewed and analyzed, and 145 articles have been extensively examined to specify the proposed AI mechanisms with chest medical images. A comprehensive examination of the associated advantages and shortcomings is illustrated and summarized. The COVID-19 pandemic shed light on the need for quick diagnosis tools in healthcare, leading to the development of several algorithmic models for disease detection. Though these models are relatively easy to build, their training requires a lot of data, storage, and resources, which may not be available for use by medical institutions or could be beyond the skillset of the people who most need these tools. This paper describes a data analysis and machine learning platform that takes advantage of high-performance computing infrastructure for medical diagnosis support applications. This platform is validated by re-training a previously published deep learning model (COVID-Net) on new data, where it is shown that the performance of the model is improved through large-scale hyperparameter optimisation that uncovered optimal training parameter combinations. The per-class accuracy of the model, especially for COVID-19 and pneumonia, is higher when using the tuned hyperparameters (healthy: 96.5%; pneumonia: 61.5%; COVID-19: 78.9%) as opposed to parameters chosen through traditional methods (healthy: 93.6%; pneumonia: 46.1%; COVID-19: 76.3%). Furthermore, training speed-up analysis shows a major decrease in training time as resources increase, from 207 min using 1 node to 54 min when distributed over 32 nodes, but highlights the presence of a cut-off point where the communication overhead begins to affect performance. Globally, there is a substantial unmet need to diagnose various diseases effectively. The complexity of the different disease mechanisms and underlying symptoms of the patient population presents massive challenges in developing the early diagnosis tool and effective treatment. Machine learning (ML), an area of artificial intelligence (AI), enables researchers, physicians, and patients to solve some of these issues. Based on relevant research, this review explains how machine learning (ML) is being used to help in the early identification of numerous diseases. Initially, a bibliometric analysis of the publication is carried out using data from the Scopus and Web of Science (WOS) databases. The bibliometric study of 1216 publications was undertaken to determine the most prolific authors, nations, organizations, and most cited articles. The review then summarizes the most recent trends and approaches in machine-learning-based disease diagnosis (MLBDD), considering the following factors: algorithm, disease types, data type, application, and evaluation metrics. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in electrocardiography is revolutionizing cardiology and providing essential insights into the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. This comprehensive review explores AI-enhanced ECG (AI-ECG) applications in risk prediction and diagnosis of heart diseases, with a dedicated chapter on COVID-19-related complications. Introductory concepts on AI and machine learning (ML) are explained to provide a foundational understanding for those seeking knowledge, supported by examples from the literature and current practices. We analyze AI and ML methods for arrhythmias, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, mortality prediction, cardiomyopathy, mitral regurgitation, hypertension, pulmonary embolism, and myocardial infarction, comparing their effectiveness from both medical and AI perspectives. Special emphasis is placed on AI applications in COVID-19 and cardiology, including detailed comparisons of different methods, identifying the most suitable AI approaches for specific medical applications and analyzing their strengths, weaknesses, accuracy, clinical relevance, and key findings. Additionally, we explore AI's role in the emerging field of cardio-oncology, particularly in managing chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity and detecting cardiac masses. In this paper, we approach the problem of detecting and diagnosing COVID-19 infections using multisource scan images including CT and X-ray scans to assist the healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system is proposed that utilizes analysis of the CT or X-ray to diagnose the impact of damage in the respiratory system per infected case. The CAD was utilized and optimized by hyper-parameters for shallow learning, e.g., SVM and deep learning. For the deep learning, mini-batch stochastic gradient descent was used to overcome fitting problems during transfer learning. The optimal parameter list values were found using the naïve Bayes technique. Our contributions are (i) a comparison among the detection rates of pre-trained CNN models, (ii) a suggested hybrid deep learning with shallow machine learning, (iii) an extensive analysis of the results of COVID-19 transition and informative conclusions through developing various transfer techniques, and (iv) a comparison of the accuracy of the previous models with the systems of the present study. The effectiveness of the proposed CAD is demonstrated using three datasets, either using an intense learning model as a fully end-to-end solution or using a hybrid deep learning model. Six experiments were designed to illustrate the superior performance of our suggested CAD when compared to other similar approaches. Our system achieves 99.94, 99.6, 100, 97.41, 99.23, and 98.94 accuracy for binary and three-class labels for the CT and two CXR datasets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper focuses primarily on AI's role in managing COVID-19 using digital images, clinical and laboratory data analysis, and a summary of the most recent articles published last year. The COVID-19 virus is one of the most devastating illnesses humanity has ever faced. COVID-19 is an infection that is hard to diagnose until it has caused lung damage or blood clots. As a result, it is one of the most insidious diseases due to the lack of knowledge of its symptoms. Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are being investigated for the early detection of COVID-19 using symptoms and chest X-ray images. Therefore, this work proposes stacking ensemble models using two types of COVID-19 datasets, symptoms and chest X-ray scans, to identify COVID-19. The first proposed model is a stacking ensemble model that is merged from the outputs of pre-trained models in the stacking: multi-layer perceptron (MLP), recurrent neural network (RNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), and gated recurrent unit (GRU). Stacking trains and evaluates the meta-learner as a support vector machine (SVM) to predict the final decision. Two datasets of COVID-19 symptoms are used to compare the first proposed model with MLP, RNN, LSTM, and GRU models. The second proposed model is a stacking ensemble model that is merged from the outputs of pre-trained DL models in the stacking: VGG16, InceptionV3, Resnet50, and DenseNet121; it uses stacking to train and evaluate the meta-learner (SVM) to identify the final prediction. Two datasets of COVID-19 chest X-ray images are used to compare the second proposed model with other DL models. (1) Background: Rapid and accurate negative discrimination enables efficient management of scarce isolated bed resources and adequate patient accommodation in the majority of areas experiencing an explosion of confirmed cases due to Omicron mutations. Until now, methods for artificial intelligence or deep learning to replace time-consuming RT-PCR have relied on CXR, chest CT, blood test results, or clinical information. (2) Methods: We proposed and compared five different types of deep learning algorithms (RNN, LSTM, Bi-LSTM, GRU, and transformer) for reducing the time required for RT-PCR diagnosis by learning the change in fluorescence value derived over time during the RT-PCR process. (3) Results: Among the five deep learning algorithms capable of training time series data, Bi-LSTM and GRU were shown to be able to decrease the time required for RT–PCR diagnosis by half or by 25% without significantly impairing the diagnostic performance of the COVID-19 RT–PCR test. (4) Conclusions: The diagnostic performance of the model developed in this study when 40 cycles of RT–PCR are used for diagnosis shows the possibility of nearly halving the time required for RT–PCR diagnosis. COVID-19 is a rapidly spreading pandemic, and early detection is important to halting the spread of infection. Recently, the outbreak of this virus has severely affected people around the world with increasing death rates. The increased death rates are because of its spreading nature among people, mainly through physical interactions. Therefore, it is very important to control the spreading of the virus and detect people's symptoms during the initial stages so proper preventive measures can be taken in good time. In response to COVID-19, revolutionary automation such as deep learning, machine learning, image processing, and medical images such as chest radiography (CXR) and computed tomography (CT) have been developed in this environment. Currently, the coronavirus is identified via an RT-PCR test. Alternative solutions are required due to the lengthy moratorium period and the large number of false-negative estimations. To prevent the spreading of the virus, we propose the Vehicle-based COVID-19 Detection System to reveal the related symptoms of a person in the vehicles. Moreover, deep extreme machine learning is applied. The proposed system uses headaches, flu, fever, cough, chest pain, shortness of breath, tiredness, nasal congestion, diarrhea, breathing difficulty, and pneumonia. The symptoms are considered parameters to reveal the presence of COVID-19 in a person. Our proposed approach in Vehicles will make it easier for governments to perform COVID-19 tests timely in cities. COVID-19 has infected 223 countries and caused 2.8 million deaths worldwide (at the time of writing this article), and the death rate is increasing continuously. Early diagnosis of COVID patients is a critical challenge for medical practitioners, governments, organizations, and countries to overcome the rapid spread of the deadly virus in any geographical area. In this situation, the previous epidemic evidence on Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques encouraged the researchers to play a significant role in detecting COVID-19. Similarly, the rising scope of ML/DL methodologies in the medical domain also advocates its significant role in COVID-19 detection. This systematic review presents ML and DL techniques practiced in this era to predict, diagnose, classify, and detect the coronavirus. In this study, the data was retrieved from three prevalent full-text archives, i.e., Science Direct, Web of Science, and PubMed, using the search code strategy on 16 March 2021. Using professional assessment, among 961 articles retrieved by an initial query, only 40 articles focusing on ML/DL-based COVID-19 detection schemes were selected. Findings have been presented as a country-wise distribution of publications, article frequency, various data collection, analyzed datasets, sample sizes, and applied ML/DL techniques. Precisely, this study reveals that ML/DL technique accuracy lay between 80% to 100% when detecting COVID-19. The RT-PCR-based model with Support Vector Machine (SVM) exhibited the lowest accuracy (80%), whereas the X-ray-based model achieved the highest accuracy (99.7%) using a deep convolutional neural network. However, current studies have shown that an anal swab test is super accurate to detect the virus. Moreover, this review addresses the limitations of COVID-19 detection along with the detailed discussion of the prevailing challenges and future research directions, which eventually highlight outstanding issues.
