Multi-scale coherent structures have been observed in ocean currents, which are induced by the interaction of shear flows with different velocities. Understanding the spatial configuration and scale characteristics of coherent structures will promote the explanation of physical ocean phenomena. Considering the self-similarity, we propose a spatial correlation identification model for coherent structure extraction and three-dimensional visualization based on the wavelet transform and time-dependent intrinsic correlation method. The spatial and scale distributions of coherent structures are related to the dissipation rate variation. Most large-scale coherent structures, with the largest length scale of 13 m, are found to exist in stable fluid, such as the water column below 50 m. However, small-scale structures are found in chaotic fluids, such as the upper layer. Furthermore, we found that coherent structures of different scales coexist simultaneously in the same depth range, indicating a simultaneous multi-scale structure pattern for turbulent flow investigations. Due to the increasing costs of livestock farming, it is important to find cost-effective alternatives of feed stuffs. This study investigated the effects of high-moisture ear corn (HMEC) feeding on the production performance, serum antioxidant capacity, immunity, and ruminal fermentation and microbiome of dairy cows. Thirty pluriparous Chinese Holstein cows were randomly allocated to two groups: steam-flaked corn (SFC) and HMEC (replacement of 2 kg equal dry matter SFC) and fed for a 60 day trial. The results showed replacing SFC with HMEC significantly increased dry matter intake, milk yield, and 4% fat-corrected milk yield (p < 0.05). Serum levels of superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and immunoglobulins G, M, and A were significantly higher, and those of creatinine and cholesterol were significantly lower, in the HMEC group than in the SFC group (p < 0.05). HMEC also significantly increased total volatile fatty acid and acetate (p < 0.05) concentrations. In both groups, the dominant phyla of ruminal bacteria were Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria, and the dominant genera were Prevotella, NK4A214-group, and Succiniclasticum. Mogibacterium, Eubacterium nodatum group, norank-f-Lachnospiraceae, and Eubacterium brachy group were significantly enriched in the ruminal fluid of HMEC-group cows (p < 0.05). In conclusion, replacing SFC with HMEC improved production performance, antioxidant capacity, and immunity, while regulating both ruminal fermentation and the composition of the ruminal microbiome in dairy cows. This paper proposes a unique memristor-based design scheme for a balanced ternary digital logic circuit. First, a design method of a single-variable logic function circuit is proposed. Then, by combining with a balanced ternary multiplexer, some common application-type combinational logic circuits are proposed, including a balanced ternary half adder, multiplier and numerical comparator. The synergistic regulation of the water–energy–food nexus in irrigation districts is important for promoting the sustainable management of agricultural resources in irrigation districts. In this paper, a new integrated optimization–evaluation modelling framework for the water–energy–food nexus in agricultural irrigation areas is developed. It can measure the synergistic effects of economic, social and environmental multidimensional objectives on the sustainable management of agricultural resources in irrigation areas. The model couples an optimisation module and an evaluation module, combines a multiobjective nonlinear planning model with an opportunity-constrained planning model and uses an entropy-weighted TOPSIS assessment approach to sustainably assess the multidimensional indicators of the water–energy–food nexus in irrigation districts, with full consideration given to the effects of uncertainty in agricultural water and soil resources and social systems. The feasibility of the constructed model is verified through a study of the Jinxi irrigation district. The results show that compared to the actual area, the optimised surface water and groundwater availability increased by 23.5% and 22.7%; the optimised total area increased by 4%, whereas corn decreased by 40%, rice increased by 34.6% and soybean decreased by 33.8%; the energy consumption decreased by 17.6% and the total recycled resources amounted to 8.97 × 109 kg, with a combined net economic benefit of CNY 1.25 × 109 more than the actual current amount. The synergistic development of the water–energy–food nexus (WEFN) in the district is relatively harmonious, suggesting that the district should focus on developing agricultural mechanisation and balancing economic benefits with environmental and ecological protection; furthermore, the model constructed should provide decision-making support for the efficient use of agricultural resources in the irrigation district. Simple Summary: The self-organizing map (SOM), an unsupervised artificial neural network model, has emerged as a tool for analyzing insect species assemblages associated with geographic regions. By comparing regions that share similar pest assemblages, SOM provides available information to rank potential invasive species. Scale insects, an important group of Hemiptera, attract a great deal of attention from researchers and quarantine authorities due to their significant threats to crops and ornamental plants. There are few studies on distribution pattern and predicting the invasion of scale insects at a global scale. In the present study, a global presence⁄absence dataset, including 2486 scale insect species in 157 countries, was extracted to assess the establishment risk of potential invasive species based on a self-organizing map (SOM). We provide preliminary establishment risk assessments of numerous scale insects at a global scale and confirm that SOM can be a reliable tool for analyzing a large number of species simultaneously. In the present study, a global presence/absence dataset including 2486 scale insect species in 157 countries was extracted to assess the establishment risk of potential invasive species based on a self-organizing map (SOM). According to the similarities in species assemblages, a risk list of scale insects for each country was generated. Meanwhile, all countries in the dataset were divided into five clusters, each of which has high similarities of species assemblages. For those countries in the same neuron of the SOM output, they may pose the greatest threats to each other as the sources of potential invasive scale insect species, and therefore, require more attention from quarantine departments. In addition, normalized ζi values were used to measure the uncertainty of the SOM output. In total, 9 out of 63 neurons obtained high uncertainty with very low species counts, indicating that more investigation of scale insects should be undertaken in some parts of Africa, Asia and Northern Europe. In order to study the mechanical characteristics and seepage mechanism of the structural plane under the action of seepage water pressure, the shear–seepage coupling test was carried out. It was found that with an increase in seepage water pressure, the peak shear strength, and shear stiffness of the structural plane decreased, while the peak dilatancy angle, average dilatancy angle, peak shear displacement, initial flow rate, and peak flow rate increased. The profile JRC and 3D morphology parameters under different Y values increased as seepage water pressure increased, indicating that the wear degree of the structural plane decreased. The contact area, effective aperture, average aperture, and hydraulic aperture of the structural plane all increased in phase with the increase in shear displacement, and they all increased in trend with the increase in seepage water pressure. The distribution and evolution law of the structural plane aperture were analyzed by programming using scanning point cloud data and the normal displacement value of the structure plane. Simple Summary: This study combined Internet of Things technology with dairy farm management to set up a smart dairy farm system (SDFS). All kinds of data in the dairy farm will be intelligently captured by various sensors and transmitted to the SDFS in time for corresponding integration analysis. Nutritional grouping was demonstrated to improve production performance and methane and carbon dioxide emission reduction, which is also a hotspot of concern for the public and scientific research. The information from dairy herd improvement (DHI) analysis was used to predict the incidence of mastitis in dairy cows, which would lead to a new way to predict individual mastitis. By fully interpreting the hidden value of dairy farm data, SDFS could help in the better management of dairy farms and promote the application of intelligent systems in dairy farm production. In order to study the smart management of dairy farms, this study combined Internet of Things (IoT) technology and dairy farm daily management to form an intelligent dairy farm sensor network and set up a smart dairy farm system (SDFS), which could provide timely guidance for dairy production. To illustrate the concept and benefits of the SDFS, two application scenarios were sampled: (1) Nutritional grouping (NG): grouping cows according to the nutritional requirements by considering parities, days in lactation, dry matter intake (DMI), metabolic protein (MP), net energy of lactation (NEL), etc. By supplying feed corresponding to nutritional needs, milk production, methane and carbon dioxide emissions were compared with those of the original farm grouping (OG), which was grouped according to lactation stage. (2) Mastitis risk prediction: using the dairy herd improvement (DHI) data of the previous 4 lactation months of the dairy cows, logistic regression analysis was applied to predict dairy cows at risk of mastitis in successive months in order to make suitable measurements in advance. The results showed that compared with OG, NG significantly increased milk production and reduced methane and carbon dioxide emissions of dairy cows (p < 0.05). The predictive value of the mastitis risk assessment model was 0.773, with an accuracy of 89.91%, a specificity of 70.2%, and a sensitivity of 76.3%. By applying the intelligent dairy farm sensor network and establishing an SDFS, through intelligent analysis, full use of dairy farm data would be made to achieve higher milk production of dairy cows, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and predict in advance the occurrence of mastitis of dairy cows. Focused ultrasound (FUS) can be used to physiologically change or destroy tissue in a non-invasive way. A few commercial systems have clinical approval for the thermal ablation of solid tumors for the treatment of neurological diseases and palliative pain management of bone metastases. However, the thermal effects of FUS are known to lead to various biological effects, such as inhibition of repair of DNA damage, reduction in tumor hypoxia, and induction of apoptosis. Here, we studied radiosensitization as a combination therapy of FUS and RT in a xenograft mouse model using newly developed MRI-compatible FUS equipment. Xenograft tumor-bearing mice were produced by subcutaneous injection of the human prostate cancer cell line PC-3. Animals were treated with FUS in 7 T MRI at 4.8 W/cm2 to reach ~45 °C and held for 30 min. The temperature was controlled via fiber optics and proton resonance frequency shift (PRF) MR thermometry in parallel. In the combination group, animals were treated with FUS followed by X-ray at a single dose of 10 Gy. The effects of FUS and RT were assessed via hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining. Tumor proliferation was detected by the immunohistochemistry of Ki67 and apoptosis was measured by a TUNEL assay. At 40 days follow-up, the impact of RT on cancer cells was significantly improved by FUS as demonstrated by a reduction in cell nucleoli from 189 to 237 compared to RT alone. Inhibition of tumor growth by 4.6 times was observed in vivo in the FUS + RT group (85.3%) in contrast to the tumor volume of 393% in the untreated control. Our results demonstrated the feasibility of combined MRI-guided FUS and RT for the treatment of prostate cancer in a xenograft mouse model and may provide a chance for less invasive cancer therapy through radiosensitization. Chaotic systems, especially hyper-chaotic systems are suitable for digital image encryption because of their complex properties such as pseudo randomness and extreme sensitivity. This paper proposes a new color image encryption algorithm based on a hyper-chaotic system constructed by a tri-valued memristor. The encryption process is based on the structure of permutation-diffusion, and the transmission of key information is realized through hyper-chaotic synchronization technology. In this design, the hash value of the plaintext image is used to generate the initial key the permutation sequence with the Hash table structure based on the hyper-chaotic sequence is used to implement pixel-level and bit-level permutation operations. Hilbert curves combining with the ciphertext feedback mechanism are applied to complete the diffusion operation. A series of experimental analyses have been applied to measure the novel algorithm, and the results show that the scheme has excellent encryption performance and can resist a variety of attacks. Although polymer-based self-lubricating materials have rapidly developed recently, intelligent lubricating materials with self-adaptable lubrication with external conditions changing are highly demanded, especially for harsh conditions. Herein, a shape memory epoxy resin based on the biphenyl units (BPEP) with tunable tribological behavior was systematically studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (SEM), laser confocal three-dimensional profiler, and optical microscope were applied to analyze the friction and wear mechanism. Due to the presence of the specific biphenyl structural units, which could be performed a switching phase between crystalline and amorphous, that allows the self-assembly of the polymer chain under π–π interaction. As a result, the improving mechanical properties enable the BPEP to perform outstanding self-lubricating in a wide temperature range, and the friction coefficient (COF) can be tuned in a wide range of 0.10~0.175 by adjusting the temperature. The shape memory effect of the polymer refers to modulus changing and heat conversion during the shape morphing, and a thermal tunable tribological was observed based on the physicochemical properties varying of polymer with temperature changing. The shape memory effect of BPEPs drives the wear self-compensation so that a low wear rate (6.94 × 10−5 mm3 N−1 m−1) at 110 °C was obtained. The superb lubricating properties of this BPEP could broaden the application scope of shape memory polymers in the field of intelligent lubricating materials, and it is expected to guide future studies on the thermal regulating of tribological behavior. The memristor-based neural network configuration is a promising approach to realizing artificial neural networks (ANNs) at the hardware level. The memristors can effectively simulate the strength of synaptic connections between neurons in neural networks due to their diverse significant characteristics such as nonvolatility, nanoscale dimensions, and variable conductance. This work presents a new synaptic circuit based on memristors and Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor(CMOS), which can realize the adjustment of positive, negative, and zero synaptic weights using only one control signal. The relationship between synaptic weights and the duration of control signals is also explained in detail. Accordingly, Widrow–Hoff algorithm-based memristive neural network (MNN) circuits are proposed to solve the recognition of three types of character pictures. Considering the increasing frequency of geological disasters related to groundwater activities, it is important to study the relationship between geological dislocation and groundwater flow for the safety assessment of engineering rock mass stability. To elucidate the non-linear seepage characteristics at rock discontinuities during shearing, a custom-made device was used to conduct seepage tests at discontinuities that exhibit varying undulation angles and different shear displacements. The results show that as the shear displacement increases, the shear stress at a structural plane involving different undulation angles fluctuates with an increasing trend. Based on an identical shear displacement condition, the shear strengths of the structural planes increase as the undulation angle increases, and this enhances the shear expansion. Concerning an identical fluctuation angle and hydraulic gradient, the seepage flow at a structural plane increases as the shear displacement increases. By contrast, both the linear term coefficient a and non-linear term coefficient b in the Forchheimer fitting equation decrease as the shear displacement increases. In addition, the critical Reynolds number initially increases, followed by stabilisation as the shear displacement increases, and this number varies between 9.65 and 1758.52. The shear fracture morphology of the structural plane exhibits obvious anisotropy. During shearing, the roughness coefficient decreases in all but the vertical direction. The dominant seepage channel is perpendicular to the shear direction. The findings can provide a valuable reference for the stability research and analysis of rock slopes with structural planes. Excavation in rock induces the unloading of stress in excavation-disturbed zones and can cause the structural plane to reach shear failure due to the unloading of normal stress. Unloading normal stress tests of a regular sawtooth structural plane were conducted in this study to investigate the influence of the unloading velocities (v) and asperity angles (θ) on mechanical properties and the stability of the structural plane. The average value of normal displacement (Du1) and the shear displacement of unloading (Dsu) gradually increases with an increase in θ and Du1 accounts for 59.70%, 31.81%, and 18.60% of the height of a single asperity under different θ. However, Du2, Ds, and the unloading capacity (Δσn) gradually decreased. Moreover, Ds account for 24.52%, 11.61%, and 7.4% of the length of a single asperity, respectively. With an increase in θ and v, three-dimensional (3D) morphology parameters and normal deformation energy (Un) decreased gradually, indicating that the damage degree of the structural plane increases. The analysis of the evolution of the gap width of the structural plane at the initial point, unloading point, and instability point indicates that the greater the θ or the smaller the v, the lower would be the likelihood for the structural plane to be damaged. Simple Summary: Ultrasound waves can be applied for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Focused ultrasound is approved for tissue ablation, e.g., in the treatment of uterine fibroids or essential tremors. Besides the non-invasive image-guided surgical intervention at temperatures above 55 °C, FUS is investigated in other fields like blood-brain barrier opening, hyperthermia, and neuromodulation. FUS offers potential as an adjuvant therapy in cancer treatment. Therefore, analysis of FUS effects on cancer cells is necessary. We performed studies on two human cancer cell line spheroids using a newly developed high-throughput in vitro FUS applicator with 32 individual transducers. This study aimed to perform basic experiments with a new in vitro FUS device on a 3D tumour model to acquire insight into the effects of FUS at the cellular level. These experiments may contribute to a better understanding and predictions of cancer treatment efficacy. Focused ultrasound (FUS) is a non-invasive technique producing a variety of biological effects by either thermal or mechanical mechanisms of ultrasound interaction with the targeted tissue. FUS could bring benefits, e.g., tumour sensitisation, immune stimulation, and targeted drug delivery, but investigation of FUS effects at the cellular level is still missing. New techniques are commonly tested in vitro on two-dimensional (2D) monolayer cancer cell culture models. The 3D tumour model—spheroid—is mainly utilised to mimic solid tumours from an architectural standpoint. It is a promising method to simulate the characteristics of tumours in vitro and their various responses to therapeutic alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of FUS on human prostate and glioblastoma cancer tumour spheroids in vitro. The experimental follow-up enclosed the measurements of spheroid integrity and growth kinetics, DNA damage, and cellular metabolic activity by measuring intracellular ATP content in the spheroids. Our results showed that pulsed FUS treatment induced molecular effects in 3D tumour models. The influence of tin foil and Ni coatings on microstructures, mechanical properties, and the interfacial reaction mechanism was investigated during laser welding/brazing of Al/Cu lap joints. In the presence of a Zn-based filler, tin foil as well as Ni coating strengthened the Al/Cu joints. The tin foil only slightly influenced the joint strength. It considerably improved the spreading/wetting ability of the weld filler; however, it weakened the bonding between the seam and the Al base metal. The Ni coating considerably strengthened the Al/Cu lap joints; the highest tensile strength was 171 MPa, which was higher by 15.5% than that of a joint without any interlayer. Microstructure analysis revealed that composite layers of Ni3Zn14–(τ2 Zn–Ni–Al ternary phase)–(α-Zn solid solution)–Al3Ni formed at the fusion zone (FZ)/Cu interface. Based on the inferences about the microstructures at the interfaces, thermodynamic results were calculated to analyze the interfacial reaction mechanism. The diffusion of Cu was limited by the Ni coating and the mutual attraction between the Al and Ni atoms. The microstructure comprised Zn, Ni, and Al, and they replaced the brittle Cu–Zn intermetallic compounds, successfully strengthening the bonding of the FZ/Cu interface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Focused ultrasound (FUS) has become an important non-invasive therapy for solid tumor ablation via thermal effects. The cavitation effect induced by FUS is thereby avoided but applied for lithotripsy, support drug delivery and the induction of blood vessel destruction for cancer therapy. In this study, head and neck cancer (FaDu), glioblastoma (T98G), and prostate cancer (PC-3) cells were exposed to FUS by using an in vitro FUS system followed by single-dose X-ray radiation therapy (RT) or water bath hyperthermia (HT). Sensitization effects of short FUS shots with cavitation (FUS-Cav) or without cavitation (FUS) to RT or HT (45 °C, 30 min) were evaluated. FUS-Cav significantly increases the sensitivity of cancer cells to RT and HT by reducing long-term clonogenic survival, short-term cell metabolic activity, cell invasion, and induction of sonoporation. Laser welding-brazing was performed to join Ti and Al together. The dual-spot laser beam mode was selected as the heat source in this study. Ti-6Al-4V and 6061-T6 Al alloys were selected as the experimental materials. Al-12Si welding wire was selected as the filler material. The effect of groove shape on the weld appearance, microstructure, temperature field, and mechanical performance of Ti/Al welded-brazed butt joints was investigated. The interfacial intermetallic compound (IMC) layer at the Ti/Weld brazing interface was inhomogeneous in joints with I-shaped and Y-shaped grooves. In Ti/Al joints with V-shaped grooves, the homogeneity of temperature field and IMC layer was improved, and the maximum thickness difference of IMC layer was only 0.20 μm. Nano-sized granular Ti 7 Al 5 Si 12 , Ti 5 Si 3 , and Ti(Al,Si) 3 constituted the IMCs. The tensile strength of Ti/Al joints with V-shaped grooves was the highest at 187 MPa. The fracture mode transformed from brittle fractures located in the IMC layer to ductile fractures located in the Al base metal, which could be attributed to the improvement of the IMC layer at the brazing interface.
