Drought stress is one of the most severe natural disasters in terms of its frequency, length, impact intensity, and associated losses, making it a significant threat to agricultural productivity. Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), a C4 plant, shows a wide range of morphological, physiological, and biochemical adaptations in response to drought stress, paving the way for it to endure harsh environments. In arid environments, sorghum exhibits enhanced water uptake and reduced dissipation through its morphological activity, allowing it to withstand drought stress. Sorghum exhibits physiological and biochemical resistance to drought, primarily by adjusting its osmotic potential, scavenging reactive oxygen species, and changing the activities of its antioxidant enzymes. In addition, certain sorghum genes exhibit downregulation capabilities in response to drought stress. Therefore, in the current review, we explore drought tolerance in sorghum, encompassing its morphological characteristics and physiological mechanisms and the identification and selection of its functional genes. The use of modern biotechnological and molecular biological approaches to improving sorghum resistance is critical for selecting and breeding drought-tolerant sorghum varieties. Food non-denatured processes, such as freeze-drying and grinding, are commonly applied to raw materials with good bioactive functions. Although the functional components are maintained, whether structural and physical changes impact the in vivo function is often ignored in practical situations. Brasenia schreberi mucilage (BSM) has a significant alleviation effect on DSS-induced colitis. This work focused on the influence of non-denatured manufacture on the colonic benefits of BSM-based products. First, three forms of products including fresh mucilage (FM), freeze-dried products (FS), and freeze-dried powder (FP) were prepared. Then, their in vitro physiochemical properties were compared, analyzing their influence on the gut inflammation degree, microbial composition, and SCFA production in mice. The results suggested that the water retention rate of FS and FP was decreased to 34.59 ± 3.85%, and 9.93 ± 1.76%. The viscosity of FM, FS, and FP was 20.14 Pa∙s, 4.92 Pa∙s, and 0.41 Pa∙s, respectively. The freeze-drying and grinding process also damaged the lamellar microstructure of BSM. Then, animal tests showed that colitis mice intervened with FM, FS, and FP had disease activity scores of 2.03, 3.95, and 4.62. Meanwhile, FM notably changed the gut microbial composition and significantly increased propionate and butyrate levels. It seemed that the distinct colitis alleviation efficacy of BSM-based products is attributed to different hydrodynamic properties in the gut. FM had relatively higher viscosity and correspondingly high nutritional density in the gut lumen, which stimulates Firmicutes growth and promotes butyrate production, and thereby exhibited the best efficiency on protecting from colitis. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been considered, for many years, an important source of medicine to treat different diseases. As a type of TCM, Illicium simonsii Maxim (ISM) is used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-virus. Besides, ISM is also used in the treatment of cancer. In order to evaluate the anti-hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) activity, petroleum ether extract was prepared from part of the fruit of ISM. First, the compounds of the petroleum ether fraction of Illicium simonsii Maxim (PEIM) were identified using LC-MS/MS analysis. Next, the cell viability and morphological changes were evaluated by MTT assay and Hoechst staining. In addition, the effect of PEIM on the levels of inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) was determined using the ELISA kit. Furthermore, apoptosis was evaluated by flow cytometry, and gene expression and the regulation of signaling pathways were investigated, respectively, by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and western blot. Results showed that a total of 64 compounds were identified in the PEIM. Additionally, the PEIM had anti-HCC activity against HepG2 cells, in which the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) was 55.03 μg·mL−1. As well, the PEIM was able to modulate the expression of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6, while we also found that it induced HepG2 cell apoptosis through the activation of P53 mRNA and caspase-3 mRNA. Finally, the PEIM possibly downregulated the expression of TLR4, MyD88, p-NF-κBp65, TNF-α, IL-1β, INOS, IL-6, JAK2, STAT3, CyclinD1, CDK4, MDM2, and Bcl-2, and upregulated the expression of P53, P21, Bax, Cytochrome-C, Caspase-9, and Caspase-3 in HepG2 cells. These findings may confirm that the PEIM has possible anti-HCC effects. However, additional studies are required to fully understand the mechanisms of action of the PEIM and the signaling pathways involved in its effects. The accurate timing for collision avoidance actions is crucial for preventing maritime collisions. Traditional methods often rely on collision risk assessments, using quantitative indicators like the Distance to the Closest Point of Approach (DCPA) and the Time to the Closest Point of Approach (TCPA). Ship Officers on Watch (OOWs) are required to execute avoidance maneuvers once these indicators reach or exceed preset safety thresholds. However, the effectiveness of these indicators is limited by uncertainties in the maritime environment and the human behaviors of OOWs. To address these limitations, this study introduces a machine learning method to learn collision avoidance behavior from empirical data of ship collision avoidance, particularly in cross-encounter situations. The research utilizes Automatic Identification System (AIS) data from the open waters around Ningbo Zhoushan Port. After data preprocessing and applying spatio-temporal constraints, this study identifies ship trajectory pairs in crossing scenarios and calculates their relative motion parameters. The Douglas–Peucker algorithm is used to identify the timing of ship collision avoidance actions and a collision avoidance decision dataset is constructed. The Random Forest algorithm was then used to analyze the factors affecting the timing of collision avoidance, and six key factors were identified: the distance, relative speed, relative bearing, DCPA, TCPA, and the ratio of the lengths of the giving-way and stand-on ships. These factors serve as inputs for the XGBoost algorithm model, which is enhanced with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and thus constructing a ship collision avoidance decision model. In addition, considering the inherent errors in any model and the dynamic nature of the ship collision avoidance process, an action time window for collision avoidance is introduced, which provides a more flexible time range for ships to make timely collision avoidance responses based on actual conditions and the specific encounter environment. This model provides OOWs with accurate timing for taking collision avoidance decisions. Paclitaxel, a microtubule-stabilizing chemotherapy drug, can cause severe paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathic pain (PIPNP). The roles of transient receptor potential (TRP) ion channel vanilloid 1 (TRPV1, a nociceptor and heat sensor) and melastatin 8 (TRPM8, a cold sensor) in PIPNP remain controversial. In this study, Western blotting, immunofluorescence staining, and calcium imaging revealed that the expression and functional activity of TRPV1 were upregulated in rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons in PIPNP. Behavioral assessments using the von Frey and brush tests demonstrated that mechanical hyperalgesia in PIPNP was significantly inhibited by intraperitoneal or intrathecal administration of the TRPV1 antagonist capsazepine, indicating that TRPV1 played a key role in PIPNP. Conversely, the expression of TRPM8 protein decreased and its channel activity was reduced in DRG neurons. Furthermore, activation of TRPM8 via topical application of menthol or intrathecal injection of WS-12 attenuated the mechanical pain. Mechanistically, the TRPV1 activity triggered by capsaicin (a TRPV1 agonist) was reduced after menthol application in cultured DRG neurons, especially in the paclitaxel-treated group. These findings showed that upregulation of TRPV1 and inhibition of TRPM8 are involved in the generation of PIPNP, and they suggested that inhibition of TRPV1 function in DRG neurons via activation of TRPM8 might underlie the analgesic effects of menthol. Monascus pigments (MPs), a class of secondary metabolites produced by Monascus spp., can be classified into yellow, orange, and red MPs according to their differences in the wavelength of the maximum absorption. However, the biosynthetic sequence and cellular biosynthesis mechanism of different MPs components are still not yet completely clear in Monascus spp. In this study, the subcellular localization of five MPs synthases was investigated using fluorescent protein fusion expression. The results revealed that the proteins encoded by the MPs biosynthetic gene cluster were compartmentalized in various subcellular locations, including the mitochondrial polyketide synthase MrPigA, cytosolic enzymes consisting of the ketoreductase MrPigC, the oxidoreductase MrPigE, and the monooxygenase MrPigN, and the cell-wall-bound oxidoreductase MrPigF. Moreover, the correct localization of MrPigF to the cell wall was crucial for the synthesis of orange MPs. Lastly, we discussed the compartmentalized biosynthetic pathway of MPs. This study will not only be helpful in clarifying the biosynthetic sequence and biosynthesis mechanism of different MPs but also provides new insights into the cellular biosynthesis of secondary metabolites in filamentous fungi. Soluble starch synthases (SSs) play important roles in the synthesis of cassava starch. However, the expression characteristics of the cassava SSs genes have not been elucidated. In this study, the MeSSIII-1 gene and its promoter, from SC8 cassava cultivars, were respectively isolated by PCR amplification. MeSSIII-1 protein was localized to the chloroplasts. qRT-PCR analysis revealed that the MeSSIII-1 gene was expressed in almost all tissues tested, and the expression in mature leaves was 18.9 times more than that in tuber roots. MeSSIII-1 expression was induced by methyljasmonate (MeJA), abscisic acid (ABA), and ethylene (ET) hormones in cassava. MeSSIII-1 expression patterns were further confirmed in proMeSSIII-1 transgenic cassava. The promoter deletion analysis showed that the −264 bp to −1 bp MeSSIII-1 promoter has basal activity. The range from −1228 bp to −987 bp and −488 bp to −264 bp significantly enhance promoter activity. The regions from −987 bp to −747 bp and −747 bp to −488 bp have repressive activity. These findings will provide an important reference for research on the potential function and transcriptional regulation mechanisms of the MeSSIII-1 gene and for further in-depth exploration of the regulatory network of its internal functional elements. Lead (Pb) and arsenic (As) are commonly occurring heavy metals in the environment and produce detrimental impacts on the central nervous system. Although they have both been indicated to exhibit neurotoxic properties, it is not known if they have joint effects, and their mechanisms of action are likewise unknown. In this study, zebrafish were exposed to different concentrations of Pb (40 μg/L, 4 mg/L), As (32 μg/L, 3.2 mg/L) and their combinations (40 μg/L + 32 μg/L, 4 mg/L + 3.2 mg/L) for 30 days. The histopathological analyses showed significant brain damage characterized by glial scar formation and ventricular enlargement in all exposed groups. In addition, either Pb or As staining inhibited the swimming speed of zebrafish, which was enhanced by their high concentrations in a mixture. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms, we examined changes in acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, neurotransmitter (dopamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine) levels, HPI axis-related hormone (cortisol and epinephrine) contents and neurodevelopment-related gene expression in zebrafish brain. The observations suggest that combined exposure to Pb and As can cause abnormalities in swimming behavior and ultimately exacerbate neurotoxicity in zebrafish by interfering with the cholinergic system, dopamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine signaling, HPI axis function as well as neuronal development. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as a reference point in the global policy-making process, with their quantitative evaluation at various scales integrating spatial planning still under exploration. Major Function Oriented Zone (MFOZ) planning in China emerges as an innovative strategy, focusing on ecosystem services to achieve sustainable development. This study takes MFOZ planning as an example, and assesses SDG implementation within the MFOZ framework, focusing on 288 cities. Then, this study analyzes the zoning types of SDG realization status through cluster analysis. Based on this, we explore the influencing factors of the SDGs from the perspective of socioeconomic and environmental characteristics, and ecosystem services, and propose target strategies. The research found that there are four zoning types according to the SDG realization status, including mixed-oriented with high consumption and output (24.3%), non-agriculture-oriented with low consumption and high output (12.5%), agriculture-oriented with low consumption and output (55.9%), and agriculture-oriented with high consumption and output (7.3%) cities. Most cities do not demonstrate high efficiency in resource consumption output, and the realization status of SDGs urgently needs to improve. Socio-economic development during urbanization challenges SDGs, while the traditional environmental measures have limited effects. Ecosystem services could help improve SDGs, including GDP growth rate, and reduce water resource development intensity and carbon emissions. Focusing solely on numerical values of SDGs, such as water efficiency, may harm ecosystem services and go against sustainable development. This research underscores the necessity of adapting SDG strategies to the unique contexts of cities and has practical significance for enabling more targeted and effective strategies for SDG implementation, integrating spatial planning, and aligning local efforts with global sustainability aspirations. Simple Summary: An atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) is an uncommon, yet aggressive, pediatric central nervous system neoplasm. Our prognostic study included 316 Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) repository participants and 27 external validation patients. The incidence of AT/RT consistently increased between 2000 and 2020. Age, SEER stage, tumor size, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are closely related to the prognosis of AT/RT. Triple therapy resulted in discernibly enhanced OS and CSS. The most common mutations in AT/RT identified using the COSMIC database were SMARCB1, BRAF, SMARCA4, NF2, and NRAS. Our study identified the clinical determinants of prognosis in patients with AT/RT and mapped the genetic mutation landscape. The prediction model that we devised may offer a valuable tool to address existing clinical challenges. Additionally, analysis based on mutational genomics will facilitate the research regarding molecular-targeted drugs. Our study aimed to develop a risk model based on comprehensive clinical data to assist in clinical decision-making. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study by examining data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) repository, spanning 2000 to 2019. The external validation cohort was sourced from the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing Medical University, China. To discern independent factors affecting overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS), we applied Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) and Random Forest (RF) regression analyses. Based on these factors, we structured nomogram survival predictions and initiated a dynamic online risk-evaluation system. To contrast survival outcomes among diverse treatments, we used propensity score matching (PSM) methodology. Molecular data with the most common mutations in AT/RT were extracted from the Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC) database. Results: The annual incidence of AT/RT showed an increasing trend (APC, 2.86%; 95% CI:0.75–5.01). Our prognostic study included 316 SEER database participants and 27 external validation patients. The entire group had a median OS of 18 months (range 11.5 to 24 months) and median CSS of 21 months (range 11.7 to 29.2). Evaluations involving C-statistics, DCA, and ROC analysis underscored the distinctive capabilities of our prediction model. An analysis via PSM highlighted that individuals undergoing triple therapy (integrating surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy) had discernibly enhanced OS and CSS. Brasenia schreberi J.F. Gmel (BS) is rich in mucilage, which has diverse biological activities, and is utilized in the food and pharmaceutical industries due to its nutritional value. Proteomics analysis was employed to investigate the cause of mucilage disappearance in BS and its effect on nutrient accumulation. Among the 2892 proteins identified, 840 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were found to be involved in mucilage development. By comparing the expression patterns and functions and pathway enrichment, the DEPs mainly contributed to carbon and energy metabolism, polysaccharide metabolism, and photosynthesis. Our study also revealed positive correlations between mucilage accumulation and tryptophan metabolism, with high levels of indole-3-acetic (IAA) contributing to mucilage accumulation. Furthermore, environmental changes and particularly excessive nutrients were found to be detrimental to mucilage synthesis. As the ability to collect profiling data in metabolomics increases substantially with the advances in Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) instruments, it is urgent to develop new and powerful data analysis approaches to match the big data collected and to extract as much meaningful information as possible from tens of thousands of molecular features. Here, we applied weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), an algorithm popularly used in microarray or RNA sequencing, to plasma metabolomic data and demonstrated several advantages of WGCNA over conventional statistical approaches such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). By using WGCNA, a large number of molecular features were clustered into a few modules to reduce the dimension of a dataset, the impact of phenotypic traits such as diet type and genotype on the plasma metabolome was evaluated quantitatively, and hub metabolites were found based on the network graph. Soil salinization has become one of the major abiotic stresses limiting agricultural production globally. The full utilization of coastal saline-alkali land is of great significance for agricultural development. Among them, fertilizer management and planting density are crucial for promoting crop growth and productivity in saline soils. Field experiments were conducted to study the effects of different nitrogen application rates and planting densities on the growth, yield, and quality of alfalfa. Using alfalfa variety WL919 as the experimental material, three seeding rates of 15.0 kg·ha−1 (D1), 30.0 kg·ha−1 (D2), and 45.0 kg·ha−1 (D3) as well as three nitrogen application rates of 150.0 kg·ha−1 (N1), 225.0 kg·ha−1 (N2), and 300.0 kg·ha−1 (N3) were set. The results showed that under the same density, different nitrogen application rates had a positive impact on the agronomic traits and yield of alfalfa on saline-alkali land. Physiological and biochemical properties (chlorophyll and sucrose) increased with increasing nitrogen application, and (starch) increased initially and then decreased with increasing nitrogen application. Forage quality attributes (crude protein and crude ash) had a significant impact, while crude fat had no significant effect. Under the same nitrogen application, the yield of alfalfa increased with increasing density but then decreased after reaching a peak, while other traits initially increased and then decreased. In conclusion, the nitrogen fertilizer was superior in promoting alfalfa growth, biomass yield, and forage yield, while planting density was more suitable at D2. Although both D2N2 and D2N3 treatments were superior to others, considering economic benefits and environmental factors, it is recommended to use D2N2 as the appropriate treatment. Simple Summary: In the complex world of cancer, iron and copper play essential roles as trace metal ions that are crucial for cancer cell survival. Disruption in their metabolic functions can be lethal to cancer cells, triggering ferroptosis and cuproptosis, respectively. Given an accelerated proliferation rate, cancer cells exhibit a heightened dependence on iron and copper, exposing vulnerabilities that could potentially be exploited to reverse drug resistance. Notably, mitochondria, the cellular powerhouses, play a crucial role in regulating both ferroptosis and cuproptosis. This review focuses on elucidating the key mechanisms behind ferroptosis and cuproptosis and summarizes recent clinical applications targeting dysfunctional iron and copper metabolic pathways. Drug resistance is a hallmark of cancer development that underscores a critical need to address it, underscoring the critical need to explore novel approaches. Understanding and targeting these metal-related processes offers promising approaches for developing innovative cancer therapies, making use of vulnerabilities specific to cancer cells. Iron (Fe) and copper (Cu), essential transition metals, play pivotal roles in various cellular processes critical to cancer biology, including cell proliferation, mitochondrial respiration, distant metastases, and oxidative stress. The emergence of ferroptosis and cuproptosis as distinct forms of non-apoptotic cell death has heightened their significance, particularly in connection with these metal ions. While initially studied separately, recent evidence underscores the interdependence of ferroptosis and cuproptosis. Studies reveal a link between mitochondrial copper accumulation and ferroptosis induction. This interconnected relationship presents a promising strategy, especially for addressing refractory cancers marked by drug tolerance. Harnessing the toxicity of iron and copper in clinical settings becomes crucial. Simultaneous targeting of ferroptosis and cuproptosis, exemplified by the combination of sorafenib and elesclomol-Cu, represents an intriguing approach. Strategies targeting mitochondria further enhance the precision of these approaches, providing hope for improving treatment outcomes of drug-resistant cancers. Moreover, the combination of iron chelators and copper-lowering agents with established therapeutic modalities exhibits a synergy that holds promise for the augmentation of anti-tumor efficacy in various malignancies. This review elaborates on the complex interplay between ferroptosis and cuproptosis, including their underlying mechanisms, and explores their potential as druggable targets in both cancer research and clinical settings. Cotton growth and yield are severely affected by abiotic stress worldwide. Mepiquate chloride (MC) and melatonin (MT) enhance crop growth and yield by reducing the negative effects of abiotic stress on various crops. Numerous studies have shown the pivotal role of MC and MT in regulating agricultural growth and yield. Nevertheless, an in-depth review of the prominent performance of these two hormones in controlling plant morpho-physiological activity and yield in cotton under abiotic stress still needs to be documented. This review highlights the effects of MC and MT on cotton morpho-physiological and biochemical activities; their biosynthetic, signaling, and transduction pathways; and yield under abiotic stress. Furthermore, we also describe some genes whose expressions are affected by these hormones when cotton plants are exposed to abiotic stress. The present review demonstrates that MC and MT alleviate the negative effects of abiotic stress in cotton and increase yield by improving its morpho-physiological and biochemical activities, such as cell enlargement; net photosynthesis activity; cytokinin contents; and the expression of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase, peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase. MT delays the expression of NCED1 and NCED2 genes involved in leaf senescence by decreasing the expression of ABA-biosynthesis genes and increasing the expression of the GhYUC5, GhGA3ox2, and GhIPT2 genes involved in indole-3-acetic acid, gibberellin, and cytokinin biosynthesis. Likewise, MC promotes lateral root formation by activating GA20x genes involved in gibberellin catabolism. Overall, MC and MT improve cotton's physiological activity and antioxidant capacity and, as a result, improve the ability of the plant to resist abiotic stress. The main purpose of this review is to present an in-depth analysis of the performance of MC and MT under abiotic stress, which might help to better understand how these two hormones regulate cotton growth and productivity. Fatsia japonica (Thunb.) Decne. et Planch. is an important woody landscape plant, and its distribution is commonly limited by salt stress. Although the application of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) has been known to be effective in alleviating abiotic stress in plants, the underlying mechanism by which NO induces salt resistance in F. japonica remains unknown. In this study, the physiological and metabolic characteristics of F. japonica seedlings with the application of NO under salt stress conditions were investigated. We demonstrated that exogenous NO (0.1 mM sodium nitroprusside, SNP) mitigated the growth inhibition caused by 0.4% NaCl. This alleviation could be attributed to NO-induced enhancement in photosynthesis, osmotic adjustment, antioxidant enzyme activities, and a reduction in oxidative damage when exposed to salt stress. Furthermore, the metabolomic analysis revealed that salt stress significantly disrupts the growth of F. japonica by downregulating sugars, sugar alcohols, amino acids, and organic acids. However, the application of exogenous NO improves sugar metabolism, enhancing the levels of fructose, glucose, mannose, galactose, xylose, ribose, inositol, and sorbitol, as well as the metabolism of amino acids and organic acids. These findings provide new insights into the physiological and metabolic homeostasis adjustments induced by NO that promote salt stress tolerance in F. japonica, enhancing our understanding of plant resilience mechanisms. In order to study the influence of freeze–thaw cycles on chloride ion corrosion resistance of RPC with copper slag (CS) instead of quartz sand (QS), the 28d uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of CSRPC with a different CS substitution rate was investigated by unconfined compression tests. The electric flux test method was used to study the chloride ion diffusion resistance of CSRPC after freeze–thaw cycles, and the pore size distribution was obtained through the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) method. Then, a mathematical relationship between the chloride ion diffusion coefficient and the pore fractal characteristic parameter T was established to study the effect of freeze–thaw cycles on chloride ion diffusion. Finally, SEM/EDS, XRD, and DTG methods were combined to study the influence of the distribution of Friedel's salts generated after freeze–thaw cycles on chloride ion diffusion in CSRPC. The results indicate that CS has a micro aggregate effect and pozzolanic activity, which can effectively improve the chloride ion diffusion resistance of CSRPC after freeze–thaw cycles. In addition, the electric flux of CSRPC decreases with the increase in freeze–thaw cycles, and the chloride diffusion coefficient is closely related to the pore fractal dimension. As a good carbon source and soil conditioner, biochar is widely used in acidic soils but seldom in alkaline soils due to its high pH. In this study, cotton straw biochar was modified with five different acidic materials to obtain wood-vinegar- (WBC), monosodium-glutamate (MSG)-wastewater- (MBC), citric-acid- (CBC), phosphoric-acid- (PBC), and nitric-acid-modified biochars (NBC), and three dosages were used for each modifier. The pristine and modified biochars were characterized with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The biochar properties such as pH, specific surface area (SSA), and elemental contents were measured. In addition, the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) model based on entropy weight was used to evaluate the application potential of the biochars in alkaline soils. The FTIR spectra showed that modification with the five acidic materials, MSG wastewater in particular, resulted in more oxygen-containing functional groups such as O-H, C=O, and C-O on the biochar surface. In addition, acid modification greatly decreased the pH: phosphoric acid modification significantly decreased the pH of cotton straw biochar by 5.71–7.88 units. For the same modifier, a higher dosage (i.e., a smaller biochar:modifier ratio) led to a larger decrease in the pH of cotton straw biochar. The magnitudes of increase in total soluble salt content followed the general order of CBCs > PBCs > WBCs > NBCs > MBCs. The SSA, average pore diameter, and total pore volume of biochar were changed as well. Modification using wood vinegar and MSG wastewater significantly decreased the SSA of cotton straw biochar by 15.58–16.24 m2 g−1 (82.7–86.2%) and 15.87–16.80 m2 g−1 (84.2–89.2%), respectively, whereas modification using citric acid and nitric acid significantly increased the SSA of cotton straw biochar by 4.51–4.66 m2 g−1 (23.9–24.7%) and 0.55–54.21 m2 g−1 (2.9–287.7%). The evaluation based on entropy weight TOPSIS model suggested that the MBCs have the highest potential for application in alkaline soils. This study presents a theoretical basis for evaluation of biochar application potential, demonstrates a way of improving biochar application potential, and provides a support for beneficial utilization of agricultural and industrial wastes such as cotton straw, wood vinegar, and MSG wastewater. The genus Carthamus Linnaeus, which belongs to the tribe Cardueae in the Asteraceae family, originated in the Mediterranean region and consists of approximately 20 species worldwide. Understanding the phylogeny of the Carthamus is crucial for the cultivation of C. tinctorius. Although chloroplast genomes are widely used for species identification and evolutionary studies, there have been limited investigations on the chloroplast genomes of Carthamus species. In this study, we assembled the chloroplast genomes of C. persicus, C. tinctorius × C. persicus, and C. lanatus and combined them with the five chloroplast genomes of C. tinctorius for comparative genomic analysis. The sizes of the chloroplast genomes of C. lanatus, C. persicus, and C. tinctorius × C. persicus were 152,602 bp, 153,177 bp, and 153,177 bp, respectively. Comparative analysis showed that the chloroplast genome structures of the four Carthamus species were highly conserved. Additionally, the phylogenomic analysis demonstrated that the plastid genome and angiosperms353 dataset significantly improved the phylogenetic support of Carthamus species. This analysis supported Carthamus as a monophyletic taxon and its internal division into the sect. Carthamus and sect. Atractylis. The Carthamus was closely related to Carduncellus, Femeniasia, Phonus, and Centaurea. In conclusion, this study not only expands our understanding of the cp genomes of Carthamus species but also provides support for more comprehensive phylogenetic studies of Carthamus. Although zinc and copper are the two essential nutrients necessary for plant growth, their excessive accumulation in soil not only causes environmental pollution but also seriously threatens human health and inhibits plant growth. The breeding of plants with novel zinc or copper toxicity tolerance capacities represents one strategy to address this problem. Glyoxalase I (GLYI) family genes have previously been suggested to be involved in the resistance to a wide range of abiotic stresses, including those invoked by heavy metals. Here, a MeGLYI-13 gene cloned from a cassava SC8 cultivar was characterized with regard to its potential ability in resistance to zinc or copper stresses. Sequence alignment indicated that MeGLYI-13 exhibits sequence differences between genotypes. Transient expression analysis revealed the nuclear localization of MeGLYI-13. A nuclear localization signal (NLS) was found in its C-terminal region. There are 12 Zn2+ binding sites and 14 Cu2+ binding sites predicted by the MIB tool, of which six binding sites were shared by Zn2+ and Cu2+. The overexpression of MeGLYI-13 enhanced both the zinc and copper toxicity tolerances of transformed yeast cells and Arabidopsis seedlings. Taken together, our study shows the ability of the MeGLYI-13 gene to resist zinc and copper toxicity, which provides genetic resources for the future breeding of plants resistant to zinc and copper and potentially other heavy metals. Three new cembranoids (1–3) and a new casbanoid (4), along with three known analogues (5–7), have been isolated from the soft coral Sinularia nanolobata collected off Ximao Island. The structures, including the absolute configurations of new compounds, were established using extensive spectroscopic data analysis, time-dependent density functional theory/electronic circular dichroism (TDDFT-ECD) calculations, and the comparison with spectroscopic data of known compounds. In the in vitro bioassay, compounds 1 and 5 exhibited moderate cytotoxic activities against human erythroleukemia (HEL) cell lines, with IC50 values of 37.1 and 42.4 μM, respectively. The limit parameters of coal spontaneous combustion are important indicators for determining the risk of spontaneous combustion in coal seams. By analyzing the limit parameters of coal spontaneous combustion, the dangerous areas of coal spontaneous combustion can be determined, and corresponding measures can be taken to avoid the occurrence of fires. In order to accurately predict the limit parameters of coal spontaneous combustion, the prediction model of coal spontaneous combustion limit parameters based on GA-SVM was constructed by coupling genetic algorithm (GA) and support vector machine (SVM). Meanwhile, the GA and particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) were used to optimize the back propagation neural network (BPNN) to construct the GA-BPNN and PSO-BPNN prediction models, respectively. To predict the intensity of air leakage of the upper limit of coal spontaneous combustion in the goaf, the prediction results of the models were compared and analyzed using MAE, MAPE, RMSE, and R2 as the prediction performance evaluation indexes. The results show that the MAE of the GA-SVM model, the PSO-BPNN model, and the GA-BPNN model are 0.0960, 0.1086, and 0.1309, respectively; the MAPE is 2.46%, 3.11%, and 3.69%, respectively; the RMSE is 0.1180, 0.1789, and 0.2212, respectively; and the R2 is 0.9921, 0.9818, and 0.9722. The prediction results of the GA-SVM model are the most optimal in four evaluation indexes, followed by the PSO-BPNN and the GA-BPNN models. Applying each model to the prediction of minimum residual coal thickness in the goaf of a coal mine in Shanxi, the GA-SVM model has higher accuracy, which further verifies the universality and stability of the model and its suitability for the prediction of coal spontaneous combustion limit parameters. Light quality is highly important for growth control of in vitro plant cultures. Here, we investigated the effect of blue light (BL), red light (RL) and combined red and blue light (RBL) on in vitro cassava growth. Our results indicate that RL facilitated radial elongation of cassava and increased stomatal conductance as well as glucose, sucrose, fructose and starch content in leaves and cellulose content in the stem. It also enhanced SOD and POD activities but decreased the stomatal density and chlorophyll and carotenoid content in leaves. In addition, RL leads to shorter palisade cells, denser chloroplasts and more starch granules. These phenotypic changes were inverted following BL treatment. The expression levels of photosynthesis-related genes MeLHCA1, MeLHCA3, MePSB27-2, MePSBY, MePETE1 and MePNSL2 in leaves were at their lowest following RL treatment, while the expression levels of MePSB27-2, MePSBY, MePETE1 and MePNSL2 were at their highest after BL treatment. The phenotypic changes after RBL treatment were between the values observed for the RL and BL treatments alone. Moreover, the responses of SC8 and SC9 cassava varieties to light quality were largely conserved. The fast reconstruction of the ship hull nonuniform rational B-spline (NURBS) surface with uniform continuity is essential for calculating hydrostatic elements such as waterplane area and molded volume in real time. Thus, this study proposes a fast reconstruction model with uniform continuity to solve the problem of uniform continuity and splicing in the separate model of hull bow and stern surfaces. The proposed model includes the NURBS curve generation (UCG) algorithm with uniform continuity and the hybrid NURBS surface generation (HSG) algorithm. The UCG algorithm initially fits the feature points using the global interpolation algorithm and then precisely constructs straight-line segments in the curve using the improved flattening algorithm. In comparison, the HSG algorithm adaptively selects the surface knot vectors according to the parameters of the section curves. In this study, the profile of discontinuous compartments is uniformly expressed, effectively avoiding various articulation problems in separation modeling. The results of comparative experiments show that the NURBS surface generated using the HSG algorithm can accurately express the characteristics of various parts of the hull with uniform continuity, and the calculation speed of the proposed model can be increased by up to 8.314% compared with the existing best-performing algorithms. Thus, the proposed model is effective and can improve computational efficiency to a certain extent. Peony seeds, an important oil resource, have been attracting much attention because of α-linolenic acid. Oil bodies (OBs), naturally pre-emulsified oils, have great potential applications in the food industry. This study investigated the effects of extraction pH and Quillaja saponin (QS) on the physicochemical properties of peony oil body (POB) emulsions. POBs were extracted from raw peony milk at pH 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0 (named pH 4.0-, 5.0-, 6.0-, and 7.0-POBs). All POBs contained extrinsic proteins and oleosins. The extrinsic proteins of pH 4.0- and pH 5.0-POB were 23 kDa and 38 kDa glycoproteins, the unknown proteins were 48 kDa and 60 kDa, while the 48 kDa and 38 kDa proteins were completely removed under the extraction condition of pH 6.0 and 7.0. The percentage of extrinsic proteins gradually decreased from 78.4% at pH 4.0-POB to 33.88% at pH 7.0-POB, while oleosin contents increased. The particle size and zeta potential of the POB emulsions decreased, whereas the oxidative stability, storage stability, and pI increased with the increasing extraction pH. QS (0.05~0.3%) increased the negative charges of all the POB emulsions, and 0.1% QS significantly improved the dispersion, storage, and the oxidative stability of the POB emulsions. As a potential alternative to fossil-based fuels, cellulosic ethanol has attracted much attention due to its great benefit to energy sustainability and environmental friendliness. However, at present, the industrial competitiveness of cellulosic ethanol production is still insufficient compared with fossil-based fuels because of the higher costs. Expanding the range of lignocellulosic biomass may be a promising measure to promote the economical production of cellulosic ethanol. Corn fiber, a byproduct from the corn deep-processing, is an attractive feedstock for cellulosic ethanol production because of its rich carbohydrate content (generally exceeding 65% of dry weight), almost no transportation cost, and low lignin content allow it to be easily handled. This study first optimized the hydrolysis conditions, including the pretreatment and enzymolysis process based on dilute sulfuric acid, to achieve a high sugar yield. Then, the corn fiber hydrolysates obtained under different hydrolysis conditions were suitably fermented by different C5/C6 co-fermentation Saccharomyces cerevisiae, indicating that the hydrolysate at high solid loading (20%) needs to detoxification to a certain extent but not low solid loading (10%) to achieve high ethanol yield. Finally, the fermentation of the 20% solid loading hydrolysates with resin detoxification was performed in a 50 L bioreactor, achieving the sugar (glucose and xylose) metabolic rate of 2.24 g L −1 h −1 and ethanol yield of 92% of the theoretical value, which are the highest reported levels to date. This study provided a potential process route for cellulosic ethanol production from corn fiber from the perspective of the suitability between the upstream hydrolysis process and the downstream fermentation strain. Lotus roots are widely consumed vegetables because of their great taste and abundant nutrients, but their quality varies with the environments and cultivar. This study systematically compared farinose (Elian No. 5) and crisp (Elian No. 6) lotus root cultivars from three geographical origins. Pasting and texture characteristics verified that Elian No. 5 possessed lower hardness and lower ability to withstand shear stress and heating during cooking compared with Elian No. 6. Untargeted metabolite profiling was first performed using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) combined with a Zeno trap. In total, 188 metabolites were identified based on the matching chemistry database. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that lotus roots from different cultivars and origins could be adequately distinguished. Sixty-one differential metabolites were identified among three Elian No. 5 samples, and 28 were identified among three Elian No. 6 samples. Isoscopoletin, scopoletin, and paprazine were the most differential metabolites between Elian No. 5 and Elian No. 6. Plant pectin methylesterases (PMEs) play crucial roles in regulating cell wall modification and response to various stresses. Members of the PME family have been found in several crops, but there is a lack of research into their presence in cassava (Manihot esculent), which is an important crop for world food security. In this research, 89 MePME genes were identified in cassava that were separated into two types (type-Ⅰ and type-Ⅱ) according to the existence or absence of a pro-region (PMEI domain). The MePME gene members were unevenly located on 17 chromosomes, with 19 gene pairs being identified that most likely arose via duplication events. The MePMEs could be divided into ten sub-groups in type-Ⅰ and five sub-groups in type-Ⅱ. The motif analysis revealed 11 conserved motifs in type-Ⅰ and 8 in type-Ⅱ MePMEs. The number of introns in the CDS region of type-Ⅰ MePMEs ranged between one and two, and the number of introns in type-Ⅱ MePMEs ranged between one and nine. There were 21 type-Ⅰ and 31 type-Ⅱ MePMEs that contained signal peptides. Most of the type-Ⅰ MePMEs had two conserved "RK/RLL" and one "FPSWVS" domain between the pro-region and the PME domain. Multiple stress-, hormone- and tissue-specific-related cis-acting regulatory elements were identified in the promoter regions of MePME genes. A total of five co-expressed genes (MePME1, MePME2, MePME27, MePME65 and MePME82) were filtered from different abiotic stresses via the use of UpSet Venn diagrams. The gene expression pattern analysis revealed that the expression of MePME1 was positively correlated with the degree of cassava postharvest physiological deterioration (PPD). The expression of this gene was also significantly upregulated by 7% PEG and 14 °C low-temperature stress, but slightly downregulated by ABA treatment. The tissue-specific expression analysis revealed that MePME1 and MePME65 generally displayed higher expression levels in most tissues than the other co-expressed genes. Blumeria graminis forma specialis tritici (B.g. tritici) is the airborne fungal pathogen that causes powdery mildew disease on hexaploid bread wheat. Calmodulin-binding transcription activators (CAMTAs) regulate plant responses to environments, but their potential functions in the regulation of wheat–B.g. tritici interaction remain unknown. In this study, the wheat CAMTA transcription factors TaCAMTA2 and TaCAMTA3 were identified as suppressors of wheat post-penetration resistance against powdery mildew. Transient overexpression of TaCAMTA2 and TaCAMTA3 enhanced the post-penetration susceptibility of wheat to B.g. tritici, while knockdown of TaCAMTA2 and TaCAMTA3 expression using transient- or virus-induced gene silencing compromised wheat post-penetration susceptibility to B.g. tritici. In addition, TaSARD1 and TaEDS1 were characterized as positive regulators of wheat post-penetration resistance against powdery mildew. Overexpressing TaSARD1 and TaEDS1 confers wheat post-penetration resistance against B.g. tritici, while silencing TaSARD1 and TaEDS1 enhances wheat post-penetration susceptibility to B.g. tritici. Importantly, we showed that expressions of TaSARD1 and TaEDS1 were potentiated by silencing of TaCAMTA2 and TaCAMTA3. Collectively, these results implicated that the Susceptibility genes TaCAMTA2 and TaCAMTA3 contribute to the wheat–B.g. tritici compatibility might via negative regulation of TaSARD1 and TaEDS1 expression. Simple Summary: ACSL4 is an enzyme involved in the intracellular conversion of long-chain fatty acids and coenzyme A into fatty-acid coenzymes. It plays a vital role in various biological processes, including maintaining cell membrane structure, energy metabolism, and lipid metabolism. Recent studies have shed light on the involvement of ACSL4 in cell death pathways, autophagy regulation, and the development of human diseases. These findings position ACSL4 as a potential therapeutic target. This review provides an overview of the fundamental structure and mechanisms regulating ACSL4 at both the gene and protein levels, emphasizing its diverse biological functions. Additionally, we discuss the role of ACSL4 in different regulated cell death modalities, including apoptosis and ferroptosis, as well as its involvement in autophagosome formation. Furthermore, we explore potential modulators targeting ACSL4 and emphasize the importance of further research to comprehensively understand the clinical impact of ACSL4 in regulating various pathological conditions. By addressing concerns regarding the systemic impact of therapeutic approaches targeting ACSL4, we aim to pave the way for the development of effective treatments for human diseases. Lipid metabolism, cell death, and autophagy are interconnected processes in cells. Dysregulation of lipid metabolism can lead to cell death, such as via ferroptosis and apoptosis, while lipids also play a crucial role in the regulation of autophagosome formation. An increased autophagic response not only promotes cell survival but also causes cell death depending on the context, especially when selectively degrading antioxidant proteins or organelles that promote ferroptosis. ACSL4 is an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of long-chain acyl-CoA molecules, which are important intermediates in the biosynthesis of various types of lipids. ACSL4 is found in many tissues and is particularly abundant in the brain, liver, and adipose tissue. Dysregulation of ACSL4 is linked to a variety of diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular disease, acute kidney injury, and metabolic disorders (such as obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). In this review, we introduce the structure, function, and regulation of ACSL4; discuss its role in apoptosis, ferroptosis, and autophagy; summarize its pathological function; and explore the potential implications of targeting ACSL4 in the treatment of various diseases. Phyto-melatonin improves crop yield by mitigating the negative effects of abiotic stresses on plant growth. Numerous studies are currently being conducted to investigate the significant performance of melatonin in crops in regulating agricultural growth and productivity. However, a comprehensive review of the pivotal performance of phyto-melatonin in regulating plant morpho-physiological and biochemical activities under abiotic stresses needs to be clarified. This review focused on the research on morpho-physiological activities, plant growth regulation, redox status, and signal transduction in plants under abiotic stresses. Furthermore, it also highlighted the role of phyto-melatonin in plant defense systems and as biostimulants under abiotic stress conditions. The study revealed that phyto-melatonin enhances some leaf senescence proteins, and that protein further interacts with the plant's photosynthesis activity, macromolecules, and changes in redox and response to abiotic stress. Our goal is to thoroughly evaluate phyto-melatonin performance under abiotic stress, which will help us better understand the mechanism by which phyto-melatonin regulates crop growth and yield. Citric acid is widely used in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Aspergillus niger is the workhorse used for citric acid production in industry. A canonical citrate biosynthesis that occurred in mitochondria was well established; however, some research suggested that the cytosolic citrate biosynthesis pathway may play a role in this chemical production. Here, the roles of cytosolic phosphoketolase (PK), acetate kinase (ACK) and acetyl-CoA synthetase (ACS) in citrate biosynthesis were investigated by gene deletion and complementation in A. niger. The results indicated that PK, ACK and ACS were important for cytosolic acetyl-CoA accumulation and had significant effects on citric acid biosynthesis. Subsequently, the functions of variant PKs and phosphotransacetylase (PTA) were evaluated, and their efficiencies were determined. Finally, an efficient PK-PTA pathway was reconstructed in A. niger S469 with Ca-PK from Clostridium acetobutylicum and Ts-PTA from Thermoanaerobacterium saccharolyticum. The resultant strain showed an increase of 96.4% and 88% in the citrate titer and yield, respectively, compared with the parent strain in the bioreactor fermentation. These findings indicate that the cytosolic citrate biosynthesis pathway is important for citric acid biosynthesis, and increasing the cytosolic acetyl-CoA level can significantly enhance citric acid production. Plant growth often encounters diverse abiotic stresses. As a global resource-based ecological problem, salinity is widely distributed and one of the major abiotic stresses affecting crop yields worldwide. Sorghum, a cereal crop with medium salt tolerance and great value for the development and utilization of salted soils, is an important source of food, brewing, energy, and forage production. However, in soils with high salt concentrations, sorghum experiences low emergence and suppressed metabolism. It has been demonstrated that the effects of salt stress on germination and seedling growth can be effectively mitigated to a certain extent by the exogenous amendment of hormonal gibberellin (GA). At present, most of the studies on sorghum salt tolerance at home and abroad focus on morphological and physiological levels, including the transcriptome analysis of the exogenous hormone on sorghum salt stress tolerance, the salt tolerance metabolism pathway, and the mining of key salt tolerance regulation genes. The high-throughput sequencing technology is increasingly widely used in the study of crop resistance, which is of great significance to the study of plant resistance gene excavation and mechanism. In this study, we aimed to review the effects of the exogenous hormone GA on leaf morphological traits of sorghum seedlings and further analyze the physiological response of sorghum seedling leaves and the regulation of sorghum growth and development. This review not only focuses on the role of GA but also explores the signal transduction pathways of GA and the performance of their responsive genes under salt stress, thus helping to further clarify the mechanism of regulating growth and production under salt stress. The research on decision-making models of ship collision avoidance is confronted with numerous challenges. These challenges encompass inadequate consideration of complex factors, including but not limited to open water scenarios, the absence of static obstacle considerations, and insufficient attention given to avoiding collisions between manned ships and MASSs. A decision model for MASS collision avoidance is proposed to overcome these limitations by integrating the strengths of model-based and model-free methods in reinforcement learning. This model incorporates S-57 chart information, AIS data, and the Dyna framework to improve effectiveness. (1) When the MASS's navigation task is known, a static navigation environment is built based on S-57 chart information, and the Voronoi diagram and improved A* algorithm are used to obtain the energy-saving optimal static path as the planned sea route. (2) Given the small main dimensions of an MASS, which is easily affected by wind and current factors, the motion model of an MASS is established based on the MMG model considering wind and current factors. At the same time, AIS data are used to extract the target ship (manned ship) data. (3) According to the characteristics of the actual navigation of ships at sea, the state space, action space, and reward function of the reinforcement learning algorithm are designed. The MASS collision avoidance decision model based on the Dyna-DQN model is established. Based on the DQN algorithm, the agent (MASS) and the environment interact continuously, and the actual interaction data generated are used for the iterative update of the collision avoidance strategy and the training of the environment model. Then, the environment model is used to generate a series of simulated empirical data to promote the iterative update of the strategy. Using the waters near the South China Sea as the research object for simulation verification, the navigation tasks are divided into three categories: only considering static obstacles, following the planned sea route considering static obstacles, and following the planned sea route considering both static and dynamic obstacles. The results show that through repeated simulation experiments, an MASS can complete the navigation task without colliding with static and dynamic obstacles. The construction of transformer substations in transmission lines is a systematic, technical, and complex project with the need for numerous materials and resources. Under the development of the green economy, the requirements for energy conservation and carbon reduction have improved; hence, an assessment of carbon emissions in transformer substations is urgently needed. A calculation method was proposed in the present study to analyze the carbon emissions of transformer substations with different kinds of data sources, which were collected from several practical projects in the west-to-east power transmission project. In this study, a detailed comparison and discussion regarding the differences in carbon emissions of 750 kV transformer substations caused by hydrology, geology, engineering quantity, and other factors were conducted. The mean value, standard deviation, and 90% confidence interval of carbon emissions were obtained by Monte Carlo simulation through MATLAB. Results show that the total carbon emissions of the selected 750 kV transformer substations are between [56,000, 68,000] t CO2 eq. Construction engineering accounts for more than 50% of carbon emissions, followed by installation engineering and additional services. In terms of input items, electricity distribution buildings contribute more than 39% of total carbon emissions, followed by cable/earthing systems, which account for 14% of total carbon emissions. Gas insulated switchgear (GIS) and air insulated switchgear (AIS) could adopt different types of equipment foundations, and GIS equipment foundations would generate fewer carbon emissions due to the smaller land area and input materials. Intracellular polyols are used as osmoprotectants by many plants under environmental stress. However, few studies have shown the role of polyol transporters in the tolerance of plants to abiotic stresses. Here, we describe the expression characteristics and potential functions of Lotus japonicus polyol transporter LjPLT3 under salt stress. Using LjPLT3 promoter-reporter gene plants showed that LjPLT3 was expressed in the vascular tissue of L. japonicus leaf, stem, root, and nodule. The expression was also induced by NaCl treatment. Overexpression of LjPLT3 in L. japonicus modified the growth rate and saline tolerance of the transgenic plants. The OELjPLT3 seedlings displayed reduced plant height under both nitrogen-sufficient and symbiotic nitrogen fixation conditions when 4 weeks old. The nodule number of OELjPLT3 plants was reduced by 6.7–27.4% when 4 weeks old. After exposure to a NaCl treatment in Petri dishes for 10 days, OELjPLT3 seedlings had a higher chlorophyll concentration, fresh weight, and survival rate than those in the wild type. For symbiotic nitrogen fixation conditions, the decrease in nitrogenase activity of OELjPLT3 plants was slower than that of the wild type after salt treatment. Compared to the wild type, both the accumulation of small organic molecules and the activity of antioxidant enzymes were higher under salt stress. Considering the concentration of lower reactive oxygen species (ROS) in transgenic lines, we speculate that overexpression of LjPLT3 in L. japonicus might improve the ROS scavenging system to alleviate the oxidative damage caused by salt stress, thereby increasing plant salinity tolerance. Background: Although neuromuscular blocker agents (NMBAs) are recommended by guidelines as a treatment for ARDS patients, the efficacy of NMBAs is still controversial. Our study aimed to investigate the association between cisatracurium infusion and the medium- and long-term outcomes of critically ill patients with moderate and severe ARDS. Methods: We performed a single-center, retrospective study of 485 critically ill adult patients with ARDS based on the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) database. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to match patients receiving NMBA administration with those not receiving NMBAs. The Cox proportional hazards model, Kaplan–Meier method, and subgroup analysis were used to evaluate the relationship between NMBA therapy and 28-day mortality. Results: A total of 485 moderate and severe patients with ARDS were reviewed and 86 pairs of patients were matched after PSM. NMBAs were not associated with reduced 28-day mortality (hazard ratio (HR) 1.44; 95% CI: 0.85~2.46; p = 0.20), 90-day mortality (HR = 1.49; 95% CI: 0.92~2.41; p = 0.10), 1-year mortality (HR = 1.34; 95% CI: 0.86~2.09; p = 0.20), or hospital mortality (HR = 1.34; 95% CI: 0.81~2.24; p = 0.30). However, NMBAs were associated with a prolonged duration of ventilation and the length of ICU stay. Abnormal blood pressure is common in critically ill stroke patients. However, the association between mean arterial pressure (MAP) and mortality of critically ill stroke patients remains unclear. We extracted eligible acute stroke patients from the MIMIC-III database. The patients were divided into three groups: a low MAP group (MAP ≤ 70 mmHg), a normal MAP group (70 mmHg < MAP ≤ 90 mmHg), and a high MAP group (MAP > 90 mmHg). The Cox proportional hazards model and restricted cubic splines were used to assess the association between MAP and mortality. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to investigate whether MAP had different effects on mortality in different subpopulations. A total of 2885 stroke patients were included in this study. The crude 7-day and 28-day mortality was significantly higher in the low MAP group than that in the normal MAP group. By contrast, patients in the high MAP group did not have higher crude 7-day and 28-day mortality than those in the normal MAP group. After multiple adjustments using the Cox regression model, patients with low MAP were consistently associated with higher 7-day and 28-day mortality than those with normal MAP in the following subgroups: age > 60 years, male, those with or without hypertension, those without diabetes, and those without CHD (p < 0.05), but patients with high MAP were not necessarily associated with higher 7-day and 28-day mortality after adjustments (most p > 0.05). Using the restricted cubic splines, an approximately L-shaped relationship was established between MAP and the 7-day and 28-day mortality in acute stroke patients. The findings were robust to multiple sensitivity analyses in stroke patients. In critically ill stroke patients, a low MAP significantly increased the 7-day and 28-day mortality, while a high MAP did not, suggesting that a low MAP is more harmful than a high MAP in critically ill stroke patients. Cassava is one of the most versatile tuberous-root crops on Earth. However, the postharvest storage properties of cassava tuberous root mean that it is perishable through a process known as postharvest physiological deterioration (PPD), which seriously affects its starch quality. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the transcriptional regulatory activity of cassava against the PPD response is necessary in order to extract key molecular mechanisms related to PPD tolerance. In this study, we found that RYG1 tuberous roots showed delayed PPD compared to those of SC8. In addition, RYG1 roots maintained a more stable cell wall structure after storage than those of SC8. The transcriptome changes in tuberous roots were analyzed for both RYG1 and SC8 after 21 days of storage (SR and SS) compared to fresh (FR and FS) by the RNA-Seq method. The total number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the various comparisons of these four samples ranged from 68 to 3847. Of these, a total of 2008 co-DEGs in SR vs. SS were shared by either SR vs. FR or SS vs. FS. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis revealed that upregulated co-DEGs in SR vs. SS were mainly enriched in photosynthesis, protein processing, hormone and cutin, suberine and wax biosynthesis. By contrast, the downregulated co-DEGs were mainly related to cell wall organization, starch and sucrose metabolism, galactose metabolism, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, diterpenoid biosynthesis, cysteine and methionine metabolism and flavonoid biosynthesis. The protein–protein interaction (PPI) networks of the co-DEGs showed a complex interaction of genes in different pathways, and 16 hub genes were characterized to have a degree in excess of 15, among which eight genes were associated with photosynthesis. Coal still occupies a key position in China's energy consumption structure, and ensuring safe production in coal mines is a key focus for ensuring energy security. Spontaneous combustion fires in coal mines are a serious threat to the sustainability of safe production in coal mines. In order to prevent coal mine fire risk scientifically and effectively and to assess the level of disaster risk effectively and rationally, a study was conducted on the risk of spontaneous combustion fires in underground coal mines. An evaluation cloud model of spontaneous combustion fire risk in coal mines integrating the interval gray number with the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) was established. Seventeen representative risk evaluation indicators were selected, and a coal mine spontaneous combustion fire risk evaluation index system was constructed based on four aspects: personnel, machinery, environment, and management. The interval gray number theory was introduced to improve the classical DEMATEL analysis method, which fully expresses the expert empirical knowledge and solves the problem of ambiguity and randomness in the semantic expression of expert evaluation. The relative importance of each indicator was determined by analyzing the influence relationships between risk evaluation indicators through the improved DEMATEL. A cloud model capable of transforming quantitative descriptions and qualitative concepts was used for comprehensive evaluation of risk, and based on the results of DEMATEL analysis, a comprehensive evaluation cloud model of coal mine spontaneous combustion fire risk was formed. Finally, the validity and practicality of the model were verified by using a mine in Shenmu City, Shaanxi Province, China as an example. This study provides a powerful tool to prevent spontaneous combustion fires in coal mines and makes a positive contribution to the sustainable development of coal mine safety management. Soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptors (SNAREs) are the core components that mediate vesicle fusion, and they play an important role in secondary metabolism of filamentous fungi. However, in Monascus spp., one of the traditional medicinal and edible filamentous fungi, the members and function of SNAREs remain unknown. Here, twenty SNAREs in M. ruber M7 were systematically identified based on the gene structure, amino acid structure and phylogenetic analysis and were classified into four subfamilies. We also compared the expression profiles of twenty MrSNAREs in M. ruber M7 and its deletion mutants, ΔmrpigA and ΔpksCT, which could not produce Monascus pigment and citrinin, respectively. The results indicated that these MrSNAREs showed distinct expression patterns in the three strains. Compared to M. ruber M7, the expression levels of Mrtlg2, Mrbet1, Mrgos1 and Mrsec22 remained higher in ΔmrpigA but lower in ΔpksCT, which could be reason to consider them as potential candidate genes involved in secondary metabolism for further functional characterization. Further, the significant upregulation of Mrpep12 and Mrvtil in ΔpksCT is worthy of attention for further research. Our results provide systematic identification and expression profiling of the SNARE family in Monascus and imply that the functions of MrSNAREs are specific to different secondary metabolic processes. It is important to accurately calculate flattening points when reconstructing ship hull models, which require fast and high-precision computation. However, some search algorithms, such as the bisection method, iterate near the optimal value too many times before converging in high-precision computation. The paper proposes a fast high-precision bisection feedback search (FHP-BFS) algorithm to solve the problem. In the FHP-BFS algorithm, the Newton–Raphson (NR) method is adopted to accelerate the convergence speed by considering the iteration characteristics of subintervals. Furthermore, a new feedback mechanism is proposed to control the feedback directions. In addition, an acceleration algorithm, called the interval reformation method, is used to guide the FHP-BFS algorithm for fast convergence. Finally, the flattening algorithm is improved by the FHP-BFS algorithm. In the comparative experiments, the practical efficacy of the FHP-BFS algorithm is first demonstrated, and then the optimal range of the threshold precision is determined. Next the FHP-BFS algorithm is compared to the best existing algorithms. Finally, the performance of the improved flattening algorithm is verified. The experiments demonstrate that the FHP-BFS algorithm has optimal performance among the compared algorithms, and it has an improved computation efficiency while maintaining robustness. Flaxseed meal (FSM) is rich in protein, α-linolenic acid, dietary fiber, flaxseed gum, and other bioactive substances. The total protein content of these components is up to 30%. Thus, FSM can be used as a high-quality protein feed resource. However, due to the presence of anti-nutritional factors, such as cyanogenic glycosides (CGs), phytic acid, anti-vitamin B6 factor, and other anti-nutritional factors, the application of FSM is restricted in animal diets. Recently, the interest in decreasing anti-nutritional factors and improving the nutritional value of FSM has been increasing in the field of animal nutrition. Therefore, this paper reviews the nutritional components, anti-nutritional factors, and the CG detoxification methods of FSM as well as its application in livestock and poultry, in order to provide a theoretical reference for the application of FSM in animal husbandry. Based on the PVAR model and taking the data of 10 major coal provinces in China from 2011 to 2020 as an example, the dynamic relationship between coal mine accidents, environmental regulation and economic development is analyzed at the provincial level. Research findings include: (1) From the static relationship between coal mine accidents, environmental regulation and economic development in China's ten major coal provinces, coal mine accidents promote environmental regulation; environmental regulation inhibits coal mine accidents; economic development strongly promotes environmental regulation; environmental regulation has a weak inhibitory effect on economic development; coal mine accidents slightly inhibit economic development; economic development strongly inhibits coal mine accidents. (2) From the dynamic relationship between coal mine accidents, environmental regulation and economic development in China's ten major coal provinces, there is a strong dynamic response relationship between environmental regulation and coal mine accidents. The impact of environmental regulation on coal mine accidents shows a decreasing volatility trend, and the impact of coal mine accidents on environmental regulation shows a rising volatility trend. There is a short-term positive interaction between economic development and environmental regulation, but the interaction response relationship between them decreases with time. Economic development has a long-term inhibitory effect on coal mine accidents, while the negative impact of coal mine accidents on economic development has gradually decreased to 0. This paper analyzes the management system of safety partnership in coal mining enterprises through the methods of evolutionary game and optimized behavioral propagation of SEIR, considering the miners' benefits and losses, as well as the influencing factors from miners and enterprises. It is found that, under the influence of the management system of safety partnership within miners, after the evolutionary game between miner partners, the behavioral strategies and personal benefits of the two miners are both consistent. Moreover, the benefits of individual miner and overall benefits of two miner partners, will affect the miners' choice of safe behavioral strategies, as a result of which, the coal mines could improve the miners' benefits through the management system of safety partnership to stimulate the implementation of miners' safe behavior. Additionally, under the incentive of the management system of the safety partnership, the number of miners implementing unsafe behavior is decreasing, while the number of miners who are not easily affected by unsafe behavior is increasing. When the rewards and punishments of miners are strengthened, the propagation of miners' safe behavior is accelerated. Finally, the propagation of miners' safe behavior has a certain spillover effect within a certain range. The results of this paper provide a theoretical basis for the implementation of the management system of safety partnership in coal mining enterprises, which helps enterprises in guiding miners to take up safe behavior, which is better for enterprises' safe development. Sorghum ("Jitian 3") is a salt-tolerant seed cultivar used regularly in marginal lands, such as those with saline soils. Herein, we examined the potential of employing gibberellic acid (GA3) as an inducer of sorghum development during salt stress. Thus far, there have been no reports on the signaling network involved in the GA3-mediated regulation of sorghum development. In this study, we demonstrated that the stimulating properties of 50 mg/L GA3 on sorghum development was far superior to other GA3 concentrations under a 150 mM NaCl salinity condition. Furthermore, using methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (MeRIP-seq), we established an m6A methylation (m6A-M) profile in sorghum following exposure to 50 mg/L GA3. Overall, 23,363 m6A peaks and 16,200 m6A genes were screened among the GA3-treated and control leaves. These identified peaks were shown to be primarily enriched in the coding, as were the 3′- and 5′-untranslated regions. In addition, we employed m6A and transcript expression cross-analysis to identify 70 genes with differential transcript expression and simultaneous m6A-M. Intriguingly, the principal gene, LOC8066282, which is associated with LOC8084853, was shown to be intricately linked to the phosphatidylinositol signaling, which in turn regulates sorghum development and response to salt stress. This investigation presents a novel RNA m6A-M profile in sorghum, which may facilitate new insights into the underlying signaling behind salt stress resistance. Cassava starch is a widely used raw material for industrial production. South Chinese cassava cultivar 8 (Manihot esculenta Crantz cv. SC8) is one of the main locally planted cultivars. In this study, an efficient transformation system for cassava SC8 mediated with Agrobacterium strain LBA4404 was presented for the first time. Cassava friable embryogenic calli (FECs) were transformed through the binary vector pCAMBIA1304 harboring GUS- and GFP-fused genes driven by the CaMV35S promoter. The transformation efficiency was increased in the conditions of Agrobacterium strain cell infection density (OD600 = 0.65), 250 µM acetosyringone induction, and agro-cultivation with wet FECs for 3 days in dark. Based on the optimized transformation protocol, approximately 120–140 independent transgenic lines per mL settled cell volume (SCV) of FECs were created by gene transformation in approximately 5 months, and 45.83% homozygous mono-allelic mutations of the MePDS gene with a YAO promoter-driven CRISPR/Cas9 system were generated. Cardiac fibrosis is a common pathophysiologic process associated with numerous cardiovascular diseases, resulting in cardiac dysfunction. Cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) play an important role in the production of the extracellular matrix and are the essential cell type in a quiescent state in a healthy heart. In response to diverse pathologic stress and environmental stress, resident CFs convert to activated fibroblasts, referred to as myofibroblasts, which produce more extracellular matrix, contributing to cardiac fibrosis. Although multiple molecular mechanisms are implicated in CFs activation and cardiac fibrosis, there is increasing evidence that epigenetic regulation plays a key role in this process. Epigenetics is a rapidly growing field in biology, and provides a modulated link between pathological stimuli and gene expression profiles, ultimately leading to corresponding pathological changes. Epigenetic modifications are mainly composed of three main categories: DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs. This review focuses on recent advances regarding epigenetic regulation in cardiac fibrosis and highlights the effects of epigenetic modifications on CFs activation.
